BEST BUDGET Everyday Road Bike - Giant Contend

*2021 Contend 3 goes for $775* In this video I talk about my 2020 Giant Contend 1 and tell you why it is the best bike for everyday rides such as commuting, grocery getting, and even bikepacking. My recommendation is only for the RIM BRAKE version of the contend - disc costs more and is heavier, but is better for gravel riding.
Most Efficient Setup for Bicycle Commuting Review

Road bikes are great for commuting, I would say second best is a bike with gears and 700c/28 inch wheels. These paired with a rack allows you to ride more effortlessly without a backpack and arrive at your destination sweat free!

As you can see in the video, the bike path is blocked, forcing riders to take PCH if they need to go north. Some idiots even ride on the wrong side of the road on the PCH. I know for a fact that while on a bicycle, a 60mph car and one wrong move of the driver’s hand can be more deadly than any virus!

Everything I say here is my 100% honest opinion, and I'm not paid to make this video. Is this the future of skateboarding? I'm not sure if I'll go back to regular grip or not. Only time will tell. If I had unlimited shoes, I would stay with regular MOB grip, but the reality is that I've spend hundreds $$$ over the years on shoes just because they got messed up from skating. How did you get range of motion back enough to bike that fast! I’m about a month post break/same surgery and I can still barely bend my knee/ankle. It’s getting better, but I have pushed it too hard a few days and get really sore!

    2 weeks ago, I was walking on the sidewalk after I closed from work at 6.30 pm (Friday) and then a public bus left the highway, climbed the sidewalk and hit me from behind, breaking my tibia & fibula. Underwent surgery, and it’s been a very painful experience. I’ve never experienced pain this intense and continuous.

    This injury definitely takes a lot out of you. It tests you both mentally and physically. Those muscles disappear real quick and take forever to build back up once you are back on your feet again. I am back to walking months after surgery but I'm still super slow. Getting back to work. Hurts once I have been on it for a long time. Hopefully it will keep getting better. I'm 7 months out from ORIF. Keep going guys. The road to recovery hurts and takes forever but it will get better.

    Broke my right tibia and fibula 3 months ago. It was treated with a cast. But the cast didn’t do anything significant. Instead, my leg was inclined and getting shorter. So all surgeons advised me to do a surgery. I did a surgery two weeks ago. I just pray the union is going on in the leg rn.

    62 yo, head-on collision with a semi while riding a motorcycle. Tib/Fib break (about 1.5 - 2 inches of both shattered) and my kneecap was shattered. Rod through the Tibia, plates for the Fibula and over my kneecap. I was told Toe Touch only for the first 2 weeks. I just had my 3-week follow-up and the Dr was *not* happy with my progress. I can put about 80% of my weight on the leg without pain and bend my knee about 130 degrees. He was VERY upset that I wasn't wearing my leg brace and only wanted me to bend my knee no more than 30 degrees. I'm pretty sure he didn't want me to put any weight on it, either. None of this was told to me when I left the hospital. I am a VERY fast healer, so I'm constantly having to fight my body's desire to just get up and walk like normal. I promised that I would stay off of it as much as possible until my 6-week follow-up and X-rays. I work full time, take care of my wife full time (she's a 72-yo paraplegic), take care of my 86-yo mother part-time, am a Notary public working about 20-hrs a week doing loan signings and starting a real estate investment business. The worst part of the whole thing for me is NOT being able to do all that. THE BOREDOM!!!!!

    I've just hit the 3rd week mark of the exact same injury and I have just taken the stitches out. Thankfully, mine was a clean break and the bone remained inside my leg when it snapped upon impact with the motorcycle that crashed into me. I am not in pain whatsoever. I haven't experienced pain since the day of the surgery. Physically, I am okay but I struggle mentally. Before the accident, I was a very active person; I went to the gym daily, I walked everywhere, I jogged twice a week and would swim almost every day. I now feel like a tethered animal. I can't do things for myself for fear of destabilizing the bones. I am worried I won't ever recover or walk again. I spend at east 10 mins every day crying, feeling sorry for myself. This video has given me a ray of hope, so thank you

    Don't think you mentioned this, but did you end up going through physical therapy? I'm going basically through the same situation (broken tibia/fibula), though in my case it was CAUSED by skateboarding. I'm goofy and landed a little awkwardly on my back leg when everything went wrong. My driving leg is good, so hopefully I'll be driving soon. I'm a little over 7 weeks in, but still in the boot sadly and still have had little to no weight bearing the whole time. My situation is definitely slower than yours so far, but hope my recovery is as good as yours when it is all said and done!

      I did my own physical therapy for the leg on a bicycle stationary trainer and just on a regular bike. However I did do physical therapy for a shoulder which I got surgery on for the same accident that caused the broken tib/fib, which really helped. I would start by exercising the ankle and trying to get full range of motion back there and in your knee. Maybe try walking in a pool first. Best of luck in your healing process!

    • @caedev
      @caedev 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@evadeproductions4255 I don't have a stationary bike sadly. Maybe that is something I can consider getting as my knee's range of motion is still limited to about 90 degrees and I want to work on that. My ankle is still quite swollen, but I have recovered a small amount in that area though maybe at about 60% range of motion. I never thought about the pool, that is such a good idea! May bring it up at my next doctors appointment. Anyways thanks for taking the time to respond! Your video has been the one I related to the most and watching videos like this has helped me tremendously through this whole ordeal. I share the sentiment in wanting to skate again as I basically skated almost every day before my accident. Your video definitely made me want to take up biking! Thanks again for the well wishes, I'll try my best to heal and get back out there!

      @@Thebmxican It was like a year after getting it put in that I asked for a removal via appointment.

    Literally just broke my tibia and fibula and have a spiral fracture on my ankle, had to have the rod put through the front of the knee and down to the ankle for plates and screws to be put in also, seeing this video gave me hope I do the exact same as you cycle and walk and having it taken away for me has made really depressed I’m just around 10 days since it happened and it’s not easier but it’s manageable and knowing that others out are in the same boat helps tremendously
