Hello, you’ll only get paid 40 bi weekly not sure if it changed since I went to the school. But once you’ll receive your first assignment you’ll earn more money so i recommend to save money before coming to the program

How long did I wait? About a month, but I know things are different now, and some folks have been waiting for quite some time now
@keysointernational874 Appreciate this video... Currently waiting to see when I'll be heading to piney point now... I can feel your energy through the screen. I'm happy about getting to save money and handle financial business as well. From Mississippi so going out west will be a new life changing experience
We're you taxed Marylands tax when receiving your 1st paycheck or were you taxed through NCL? Like wherever your ship was based.
Your taxed by your home state as well as Hawaii not Maryland

Isn’t ncl training the same as siu? All it is is STCW training
Yes and no.. whatever training you did for ncl will not be creditable when you come into SIU

They don’t have the fast track program any more
Hey , im looking to start with American cruise line for their deckhand position. Spoke with SIU admissions and they said their basic training and seatime will carry over. Have you heard any decent things about ACL?
That sucks that you had to start over! I signed up for a Basic training course in December and cannot wait to start my training next February. Im over my 9-5 ! Are they allowing you to use your seatime at SIU?
Hiiii… It’s okay I learned a little more then what I learned from NCL. Unfortunately they didn’t allow me to use that sea time.
@keysointernational874 I figured they would not let you ...but honestly you got the best training from SIU . I'm leaving corrections after 5 years so I'm sacrificing for a bit but I know it will be all worth it in the end. I want to go engine but I'll probably do steward to finish quicker . Are you getting a good amount of jobs when you go to the hall? Because I see alot of deck dept more than Steward? And you said we can drive ourselves to phase 1 instead of flying?
With SIU can we bring all our stuff and just keep it somewhere?

I have so many questions I just got hired by NCL but I heard that the ship is so unstable I want stable career where I won’t fired something stupid while making money.
What ppl get fired on the ship is from being drunk & late

Hey hope all is good . Are still with SIU? Is the MMC that NCL help me get is it good for SIU. I’m thinking doing one tour with them and then going to SIU. How’s your experience out there?
Yes the same credentials I received from ncl works with SIU. It’s completely different then cruise ships. It’s a lot more flexible, depending on the department you choose
I’m between Deck & Stewart but yes can wait I wish I would have know now when I was 20. I’m just waiting for my MMC so they could send me to Piney Point.
@@SoldierDad1980 no I totally understand I felt the same way. But your here now & that’s all that matters. The training for NCL is a little different then SIU, so while your at piney point I suggest to ask all the questions you need so you can be aware of what SIU has to offer
@@SoldierDad1980 visit the port office when you can when your there & ask how can you join. They will suggest that you go into the apprentice program. A lot of people will avoid that & go into SIU as a C-card just an FYI
I was watching your videos and another person. The training that ya did 7-8 months that’s the apprentice right? And what’s a C-Card ? I wanna do the 8 months.

That’s a good question, I honestly don’t remember.
I have my Stcw. Acquired it from a maritime school. Was hoping as well I can use those in the program to move forward quicker. Watching this video, your giving me the vibe that it’s possible.
Yes you can go to your local SIU union hall & see what they can do for you
Do you get train in all areas or just what you go out for if you don't know how to cool what other stuff can we do as a steward

@@keysointernational874 hey hope your doing good. I just look up the SIU it’s so interesting and there’s more money . Dam I think I’m going to do may be one or two tours on the cruise and sign up for this since this it’s going to take me near 1 yr to complete.

Is the pay worth it with SIU and do you have contracts like with ncl ?
It’s definitely worth it. Each ship pays different depending on each contract. They also have contracts with NCL if you want sea time but I wouldn’t recommend it because you won’t make much
So sea time with ncl won’t really count as much as SIU? Trying to see if it will be better to do like one contract with NCL then Do the apprenticeship with SIU NCL offered me a position but I’m leaning more on SIU wanting to join Galla
@@user-ff6hm1ih6d the sea time you’ll earn from NCL will not count, however you can try it out to see if ship life is for you. Even though it’s a different experience & you can achieve your credentials and be ahead of the game if you do decide to get into SIU

When I went there no, but they are updating there curriculum so you can utilize Microsoft teams. If you don’t have a labtop you can borrow one from the library

Your welcome! No we didn’t ride bikes but there is a gym you can go to. Sometimes Mr. Guy (who is in charge of the classes) also does gym classes with us too

Hello good video and I have a question ! What if you can't swim for the water part! Did you know how to swim?
I actually don’t, all you really need to know is how to float, and usually they will help you.
When you went for your medical exam what was your BMI and .one is 43 and I passed the lift test very easily but since my BMI is 43 the doctor wants me to get a sleep study test done so he left my physical on pending and when I talked to NCL about this he said he has never heard of a sleep study test required to pass so I believe it's just the doctors opinion so there going to go over them exam with the medical team and see if it is necessary
The sleep study is being requested because, based on your BMI, you are more likely to have sleep apnea.
@@dustinhowe8429 I've seen bigger guys then me in training video on here wonder if they had to do a sleep study test or just the lift test if they didn't then it's just the doctors opinion and I'm in the process of losing weight and I applied for insurance but they told me they will talk to the medical team about it and see if it is necessary or not I wonder if I fail if they will let me redo my weight or the whole physical if I lose 30 pounds

When you was at piney point how many hours did you get paid for that week
I am new and I passed my medical but I am waiting for them to send me to the training I am all ready had my twic card. When will I hear back from them
You should hear from them soon, just make sure to communicate with your recruiter. Have patience because they have so many people

Do when you get to the airport did you pay to get your luggage checked or did NCL pay for your first bag
Whatever you pay they will reimburse you as long as you keep receipts

BP should be less than 140/90 if I recall right. If you’re on medication for it that’s fine

After your contract ended how much money did you earn all together and what exciting things did you do off the ship
How do they expect you to pass a test on Day 1 and which test was it and for when I go I have the option of going straight to the ship or going home if we go straight to the ship we get $1000 dollar bonus on our first check but soon as you pass your medical and obtain your twic card how long did you have to wait to go to training I would like to talk more what's your Instagram
On the ncla bundle papers you had to fill out what's the course name we fill out and on the page where it says state of residence we put Maryland or do I put my state bc it also says Maryland county of residence and since I'm utility hotel should I just put NCL as the department or would it be steward
Basic training if I’m not mistaken. You can always email your recruiter as well
@@keysointernational874 I e been emailing the onboarding administrator about my questions to the papers I need to fill out and I get one shirt answer and they don't answer all my questions she said if I don't know the course name I can leave it blank and when it comes to the MMC papers to fill out I guess I leave the signature blank on who's in charge of the oath I wish they had a phone number I could call and talk to the onboarding administrator
@@joshuamiller2627 oh wow! I’ve never had those issues before. I’m sorry I can’t be much help because I don’t really remember the paper work, it’s been sooo long since I’ve filled it out. Try calling the training center at piney point and maybe they can help you. Make sure you state that you wanna speak to someone in the NCL department

It should be able too. I know with cargo ships not cruise ships, there able to do it
