      A long as they are in the proper location and the seals are good you should be fine. On other engines there could be shields on one side and not the other but on this engine both sides are open and there are seals separately.

    • @cycleforlife2170
      @cycleforlife2170 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jvrrico no it works great. In stop and go traffic or in a drive through, it'll get hot enough to cycle on and off but never goes over 195. Then once your moving it never turns on until you stop again. It's not necessary to cover the entire radiator. It's only necessary to displace enough heat to keep it from heat soaking.

    Thanks for showing us, I'm downunder in Australia, I shipped my '93 GMC Vandura conversion van to here, its only done 50,000 miles. This week it started a leak from the top of the core. Like you I have to work in my driveway. Luckily these vans will let me squeeze under them. I notice that you removed the fan assembly, at what stage was that and why? Can I buy these radiators from Amazon? Would you know the part numbers for the hoses and the belt as this will be a good time to swap them as you suggested? Why did you remove the dog box inside the van? On the temperature guage what is the usual running mark when hot? Mine cruises at the 1/4 mark, is that normal? Thanks for your help, -Rob Mornington Australia.

    The drain fitting is always a hassle to get to. From up top I use a long screwdriver and tap the wingnut loose. Then reaching from underneath open the drain valve. Coolant goes everywhere. I like the orange prestone. One jug then finish with a gallon of distilled water. With new radiator and thermostat my engine never over heats. Installed two years ago at 240,000 miles. Old radiator wasn't even leaking . I still got it. I live near New Orleans and in June I'll head to San Francisco for a month. G-20s RULE !

      Some of these rms from around that time had an internal water pump instead of putting it out on the right side cover like most mx bikes. You wouldn't ever have a valve you might would have a drain bolt with a copper colored sealing washer. If not just pull the lowest hose and get a much as you can out that way.

    great video,, I have the same problem and you just answered most of my questions, what tools were needed? I have knock on lower end from overheat, is there an easy fix, like thicker oil, or oil additive? engine runs strong just knocks now, any ideas?

    • @cycleforlife2170
      @cycleforlife2170 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the knock is lower rod bearings you can pull the pan and replace them. Do not use oversize. They are for rebuilds after machining the crank. Replace with new of whatever size is in there now and see how it goes. If this doesn't work it's rebuild time. If the noise is a walking cam, you'll live with it until a new cam with new bearings is installed. I've run 20 50 to help with beat up old engines but that is a last resort before a rebuild because thicker oil doesn't flow and clean as well so you want to fix the injury and not use aband aid

    • @cycleforlife2170
      @cycleforlife2170 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As for additives... I hate the false marketing that comes with companies selling a mechanic in a can. However..... if you are running a flat tappet cam like myself you really do need to add zinc to the oil. Modern cars run rollers so the oil companies don't put zinc in anymore but for old designs like ours (flat lifters hydraulic or not) zinc additives seem to triple cam life. I use the stp blue regular zinc or the tan bottle high mileage zinc whatever is available just make sure the purpose of the additive is specifically to add zinc and its not a generic additives with a little bit of zinc included

    Limping home with a known cooling issue, best thing is to turn on the interior heat and monitor for continual warmth. No warmth = low coolant. Most vehicles will first sacrifice cabin heat for engine protection. Monitoring that in conjunction with the engine temperature sensor reading is the ultra indicator for dangerously low coolant awareness. I've done the same thing. Great VIDEO! (I learned where my radiator drain is physically located). Just subscribed 👍
