I’m from the beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. I have a passion for the outdoors and love mountain biking, exploring gravel riding on rural and farm roads, and trail running on our incredible trail network-especially on Table Mountain, known as Hoerikwaggo by the indigenous Khoikhoi people.

What a fun, tough day on the bike. Stunning gravel route and views from Swellendam to Franschoek (162km new roads for me), insanely hot, 40deg temps, low water supply (no backup or waterpoints - backup arrived towards the end) windy...VERY windy, rollers after rollers, after rollers.. 46 in total, vomit at the end (part of heat stroke)... but it was all worth it and we learn to cope with these ...

Can you run a Marathon with no training..? Apparently yes, but you will suffer 😎🤣🤣 On pace for 3:30 finish keeping the pace steady.. untill 12.5km, the knee pain came back (8 week old injury, hence the no training), then it was all over. Walk-run to the finish line. Made new friends, made a vlog, interviewed runners along the way, I was a medic...all while trying to forget about my own knee pai...

I was nearly wiped of the bike...twice! Happy that I could complete the Basecamp challenge with minimum effort and still feeling good afterwards. Definitely doing the full challenge at the next event. Strava: www.strava.com/activ...

UTCT100 - DNF...not the race I trained for... The 1st 20km went as planned, 10mins ahead of schedule..at 22km the cramps started (I have NEVER cramped on a run before)...23km start of Platteklip climb and I had no power and couldn't eat anything - this climb took twice as long as it normally would. Thanks Duncan Pringle for the cramp tablets on the top. Unfortunately the cramps didnt stop there...

Lekka guys, that’s always a great day out on the bike. We do it annually as well and I love seeing the reaction of new riders when faced with the challenge 👌🏼👍🏼
It's such an iconic and challenging route, and a real test of your fitness - good times! 😎👌
Really enjoyed that one Francois. Counting down the weeks till I’m there 🚴🏿🇿🇦

Great to hear! Just put your mind to it, do proper mileage training - 300-400km per week (+ climbing) and go smash it!
Cool video Frans 👌

Dankie @liefievanwyk. Die dag het nou nie gegaan soos beplan nie, maar ten minste het ek probeer deur druk.
@@cptmtb ek dink jy het wyse besluit gemaak.
Yster! Munga next?

Frans, briljante video, en baie respek vir jou my vriend! Well done ysterman
Dankie Liefie! Hierdie was ń baie nice adventure ride 👌👌👌
this is banger
It really was great to watsch you in this video and apreciate it a lot but how can you do it with so much pain in your knee I dont understand and its very much understandable well you complete and you got a medal and then its getting done,,,,,,,,,congrates anyway. Inga DK.
Thank you Inga for your great comment. To understand, as soon as I felt my knee pain I dropped my pace substantially which allowed me to finish the race while still having fun (with less pain). If I pushed through the pain at my intended pace of 4:55, I definitely would not have been able to finished the race. It was just about managing the effort and getting myself (and my friend, who wanted to quit at 36km) over the finish line.
Great Video there Frans. Well done man
Thanks Muneem!
Nee meneer, dai rug sal jy moet uitsort. Enjoying the videos as always.
Tx Mr Marlon. Glo my, ek sukkel al vir die laaste 30 jaar met die rug... As jy iemand ken wat dit kan uitsort....
@cptmtb Doen n google search met my naam in Paarl. Jy behoort my details daar te kry. Sal graag wil help.
nice vid bud, looks like I missed out on an awesome route
@herschelsolomon defintely! This would have been an easy ride for you 😎
That was awesome! Did my 2nd this year, hope to be back next year with more training, lol.
Well done! Hope to see you back next year 🤗
Great video! Do you mind if we upload it to our channel and credit you?
Hi there. You can share my video link if you wish to promote it but you cannot upload and use my videos on your channel.
I enjoyed watching every moment of this video, as it allowed me to relive the day! I started a couple of batches behind you and was chasing Charl's pacing group. Great to see you captured them. I had a rough day in the office and bonked hard at 30km. Decided to try for goal B which was sub 4h. That went out the window so I went for goal C which was sub finish. According to my start time, I must have passed you somewhere along the route - though I don't remember seeing you. That's how hazy my vision must have been 🤣I don't recall seeing anyone with a GoPro on a stick interviewing runners.
Hey jacksonm.6549, I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed watching the video! Sorry to hear about you missing your goal but you pushed through and finished the race! Kudos on your effort. That's the highs and lows of a marathon, but we live to tell the tale and get back into it, training for the next one. Keep it up! Next time I might just interview you! 🤓
Wow wow wow... awesome stuff. I got teary seeing Tino struggling but im so glad he had you.... amazing and congratulations 🎊 👏.
Thank you Rose! Well you know that's what friends do for each other 👊👌
Great video. Love it. Which sport camera and mic are you using ? I am looking to upgrade my contact quality
Thanks @mpumzabashiye! I use the DJI Action camera with onboard mic. I must get me a wireless mic to deal with the wind noise! All in due time. Thanks for watching.
Heyyyy daai is ek in die video! So nice om jou te ontmoet. Well done met jou race!
Hey Chantelle, ek hoop jy like die video! Hoe het dit gegaan met jou race? Jy was gefokus op jou splits toe ek jou kry. Jy hardloop baie sterk, hou so aan! 👏👏🙌
@@cptmtb Flippen nice video!! ek is deur 3:45 op die marathon merk 😊😊daai laaste 4km's het my so bietjie gevang, maar eks so tevrede! Hoop jou race was ook lekker (dit lyk so hehe) hopelik sien ek jou volgende jaar weer 🙌🙌😊😊✨✨
3:45!! Well done Chantelle! Jou pacing was on point. Dai laase gedeelte is bietjie tough maar jy het mooi deur gedruk. Well done 🔥👍🏾👍🏾
Awesome video thanks for posting! This was my 6th Cape Town marathon, older slower runner so more time to enjoy the scenery, but still so much I missed - but can relive again now with your footage! Hope your knee injury comes right and 2025 is a great running year!
@adeno3 thanks! Glad to hear you enjoyed your race. I'm hoping this knee will recover so that I can start training for Oceans.. 🤞🤞🤞
Thanks guys tjow
Your strong bud....run or bike you seem to be tuned in...maybe try swimming? See something coming up maybe 😂
I’m motivated, watched the entire video. Hope I’ll be there next year
KingKumi, thank you for watching! I'm glad that you're motivated. Your training starts now for next year 😆
Great video - which for me beautifully highlights the struggles we all go through during a marathon and the support that runners give each other out there during a race!! My race didn’t go to plan either and I battled from 29km - mostly walking - i wanted to stop - but I didn’t - I didn’t think I could finish - BUT I DID! 🎉
Hi Jonathan, a marathon does not always go according to plan but we push through and finish what we've started. Glad you got to finish your race!
Sucks I missed this year., So Thank you for bring the Marathon to US. Take Care of the Knee , Want to see you next year. Awesome Vibe Francois😎
Thanks Wesley! I'll be back next year in proper form to smash it! Hope you wil join me 😅
This was my first marathon, pretty tough route but happy to have done it 😂
Well done on completing the race! What was your time?
Congratulations
love this definitely joining on your next one
Hey Meneer. Im also thinking of attempting the K2C again in 2025.
That sounds awesome! You'll definitely enjoy the experience, it's a great event! Subscribe to the channel to get a notification when I upload my 2024 K2C race video 👍🏾
My brother, YOR! nail betting buddy.Ek was op my nerves vir jou. Great job buddy! WELL DONE!
Thanks!👍Hopefully I'll be back in 2025 to redeem myself... 😊
Well done - fantastic effort. Great video work, too! Excellent stuff. Did you use your watch to navigate (gpx) or just your phone?
Thanks! I Know most of the routes on our mountain but I always have my GPS computer with me to make sure I stay on the planned route. PS: I almost never use my watch for navigation, I just can't get used to scrolling and looking at trails on that tiny screen (Garmin Fenix 7)
What an awesome video. Thank you for creating it and sharing it.
Thanks to you Dennis for organizing. Looking fwd to the next one.
Thank for video make me want to run marathon again!
Than you! Please do join us this year, looking fwd to a great race!

Looks Super LEKKER 🤩
That's our next ride!
AWESOME TRAIL 😁😁😁
Wanneer ry ons weer bietjie saam!?
Nice 👍🏼
Thanks Deon!
Nicely done! So inspirational! Does anyone know what the purpose of the ankle strap is around 02:49 ?
Ah, I think it relates to support after the injury.
Hi Johan, I had Plantar Fasciitis injury at the time. The ankle strap goes under my heel to help relieve the pressure and pain on my heel.
@@cptmtb Thank you for explaining! I'm going to have to watch your video again, a couple of times. Beautiful scenery 😍 Until I get to go there myself. I'm certain it's more majestic in person 😁
oh it definitely is! You won't be disappointed, views for days!
