Everesting Challenge arranged by DVCC bike club on Malanshoogte, 6 April 2024. The plan was to do the full challenge but the crosswinds became to dangerous on the MTB. I was nearly wiped of the bike...twice! Happy that I could complete the Basecamp challenge with minimum effort and still feeling good afterwards. Definitely doing the full challenge at the next event. Strava: www.strava.com/activ...

UTCT100 - DNF...not the race I trained for... The 1st 20km went as planned, 10mins ahead of schedule..at 22km the cramps started (I have NEVER cramped on a run before)...23km start of Platteklip climb and I had no power and couldn't eat anything - this climb took twice as long as it normally would. Thanks Duncan Pringle for the cramp tablets on the top. Unfortunately the cramps didnt stop there...

Old Hermon Gravel 2023
มุมมอง 66311 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Old Hermon gravel ride starts and finishes at the historic Welbedacht Wine Estate in Wellington. Experience some great gravel riding along some of the region’s best gravel roads, roads once ridden by Old Hermon himself. The 45km is a little harder, especially if you race it flat-out, but still easily manageable for moderately fit riders. I decided to cruise with the 45km K bunch today... an...

What an awesome video. Thank you for creating it and sharing it.
Thank for video make me want to run marathon again!
Eina
Looks Super LEKKER 🤩
That's our next ride!
AWESOME TRAIL 😁😁😁
Nice 👍🏼
Nicely done! So inspirational! Does anyone know what the purpose of the ankle strap is around 02:49 ?
Ah, I think it relates to support after the injury.
Hi Johan, I had Plantar Fasciitis injury at the time. The ankle strap goes under my heel to help relieve the pressure and pain on my heel.
@@cptmtb Thank you for explaining! I'm going to have to watch your video again, a couple of times. Beautiful scenery 😍 Until I get to go there myself. I'm certain it's more majestic in person 😁
What is the bike spec that you used?
Hi, I used my Cannondale dual sus. 38t chainring upfront with Eagle 10-50 cassette at the back. The bike with camera gear and bottles weigh abt 13kgs.
@@cptmtb Thanks, I have a Polygon Xtrada 6, weight 14.3kg. Chainring 36t.
@cptmtb you sure went fast eventhough you are using 38t chainwheel
Enjoyed the video, long live MTB, congratulations!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Jy kan darem hard trap vir n man op n mtb! Wat was jou Cape town cycle tour tyd?
What camera are you using that your battery is lasting the whole ride? Also instead of displaying elevation rather show total elevation and maybe power. It’s great for us who haven’t done these races to decide on which bike and type of terrain you covering! Thanks Noel
Hi Noel thanks for your comment. I use the DJI Action 3 camera @4K with a small 5000mAh powerbank to keep the battery charged. The current app I use for the overalys can't display total elevation. Power would be great but I don't have a powermeter on the bike - that's work in progress.. I have found an app that's fully customizable for the overlay data, can display total elevation, power and much, much more but it's to expensive at the moment to buy considering that this is only a hobby...
I just read the news from the organisers that they did not meet the criteria for the Abbott World Marathon Majors, so decided to take a look at videos of last year's race. Thanks for capturing it! Years ago this was my first ever marathon - and I live in Joburg. I wanted to make it a destination race - in addition, the high altitude and gazillion hills up here made me think that running at the coast would be a lot easier (and it was). Fast forward to today and I've done maybe 20 marathons, 5 Two Oceans and back to back Comrades. I got so much nostalgia watching this and so want to go back for my second CPT marathon. Possibly smash my course time or PB because I heard it's even flatter than it was years ago when I ran it!
Dude! Glad you liked the video. You should definitely come do your next marathon here! It's such a lekker vibe. The course is relatively flat but there's still a few inclines that some people don't like. Well done on your 20+ marathons!
oh, and well done on those back 2 back Comrades! You're a machine! 👏👏👏
What a ride Francois. You never gave up - 3.15 with a 3 minute stop is an incredible achievement on a MTB. And the last stretch from Seapoint out of the saddle! 💪.
Glad you enjoyed it!
A great effort broer. Well done...🏆Next time. 🙏
Thank you Robert!
jarre Bru - you threw corn 🌽🌽
Deon! It was hard work but lekker! 👌👌😅
Lekka Francois, that was a solid ride, well done. Nice video as well, I like your setup showing all the stats on the bike 👍 I see my HR wasn't the only one that was Z4 & Z5 the whole race 🤣 Flip man, that was a tough race, I haven't had to dig that deep in a while 😵
Thanks Brett! It was for sure a touughy as I was not expecting that pace at the start 🥵, but overall a good fitness test knowing I can keep up a bit with the gravel bikes 🤣🤣😅
Congratulations
Nazmie thanks! 🤟🤟
Wow... congratulations 🎉 you got me into a Tuesday adrenaline rush 😅... apparently my facial expression said a lot according to my friend who watched with me.. 👏
Thank you Rose! 1st race for the year so I'm not fit yet. This one was a good fitness test though 😅
I also got a DnF - my race finished at Llandadnou...P.S - Start of your video, I'm the one standing behind you (At Gardens R.C) wearing All-Black with a red Hydration Vest.
Sorry to hear about your DnF. Did you also get sick?

Good job
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing the video! Hope I can join in next year then! Living on and off in Paarl, I was actually looking for some gravel riding/racing experience.
Best of luck! It sure is a nice gravel race, you'll have loads of fun!
Awesome man, well done. Love the content
Thank you Muneem! When your ankle is healed you should come try this 😉🤙
Your a machine.. well done
@danwerkman thanks! It was a great day out!
Great video, verseker op my bikeit lys. Wat se device of software gebruik jy vir daai on screen inligting? Dit is nou nice.
Dankie Evert!
I dont recommend you go jog alone. This is SA..
Thanks Johan. These are easy safe routes that I know very well. I often do longer 40-50km in the mountains solo with no issues. I do have a running buddy with me on some weekdays but I enjoy the time alone out there...
baie cool vid, nou weet ek wat oms sondag te verwag!! thanks
Dankie! Julle gaan sommer ñ awesome tyd het, baie lekker race 👍👍💪💪
with with model tire are you riding, I saw on the videos you are motoring, so trying to understand your mix of rolling resistance vs grip.
I'm using Maxxis Aspen 2.25 upfront and Kenda BoosterPro 2.2 at the rear which I've been testing for a while now. Another good combo that works well for me is Maxxis Ardent Race upfront and Maxxis Rekon Race at the rear. Which tyre combo are you currently using?
looks lekker relaxed from the K group, just enjoy the ride
It was! Tx Richard. I was riding with some friends and was good to hang back, it's not everyday we get to stop at the waterpoints!
