#ds9 so, you may see that here not all their moments together but it because not all their scenes have "old married couple" energy I'm planning to do a video "garashir being garashir" so let me know, which moments of them you would like to see

The thumbs up at the end made me laugh.
I really dont see them as gay, i just see them as really close friends. That being said, Garak is the best 😂
I knew how gay they were. I *remembered* from the show. I knew what to expect when I hit the play button. and then I watched this and went. oh my god. they really are *that* homosexual

Thank you for this video ❤️🔥 (also - Lower Decks! Lower Decks! Lower Decks!)
@@dancingdragon3 LOWER DECKS! And thank you, I hope you enjoyed it
I know it’s EMHs, but we finally got a payoff for this relationship on screen with Lower Decks. It was so affirming! And funny.
What’s EMH?
@@sophiaolszewski64 Garak is a real person from an alternate timeline, Bashir is from another timeline and is an Emergency Medical Hologram. He has an emitter that lets him travel outside holo-projector equipped areas.
your subtitles are hilarious. also you're forgetting in the racquetball scene that was actually the Lethian. Their faces are getting strangely close in that one scene on the holosuite. You're also forgetting that Garek didn't send Julian away when his estranged father (Tain) was dying. That was MAJOR.
Came here after the new Lower Decks episode.

I’ve been putting off watching that show cuz I’m not so into animation but now i might watch it.
Love how Lower deck has them together via multiverse shenanigans s
You're a girl aren't you?
Why would you comment that?
Bashir and Garak walked so Beckett Mariner could sprint
To quote Andrew Robinson “ I think it did start of as something physical, he wanted sex, but then it became so much more.” Or something like that
Which one wanted something more 👀
Its even better when you take into account that arguments are the Cardassians' way of flirting.
"In two days I turn 30!!" As someone who recently turned 30 yet looks a decade younger than that man.. I realize age is just a number 😂
Same here; I turn 30 in a couple of months, yet everyone thinks I'm at least a decade younger.
@OnafetsEnovap happy belated birthday
@ThisistheEnd66699 is that projection since you're afraid to show your face? You're liking your own comments too 😂 what's with this bratty 12 year old girl energy?
I ship that s*** like UPS.
Garak and Bashir, the pansexual/gay relationship we all needed but were never given freely. We must seize the means of representation and write as much gay fiction about these two as possible, I'll be titling my magnum opus "Spoon-fed lies by a Spoon-Faced Guy" An addition: Garak is turned on by violence and that delights me
And where, pray tell, will this magnum opus be published? I do so enjoy stories with such clever titles... 😂
Cringe
the real question is if it will be on AO3 or not
God I love how Andy Robinson speaks. The emphasis is almost musical
Per the writers the sub text is real. We are not imagining things. But it was the 90s and the world wasn’t ready for gay characters in Trek.
Not reoccurring characters anyway

Son of a bitch, these guys make such a good comedic duo XD
A tailor is an excellent occupation for a spy. Gives public plausible deniability. Much more deniability than others. You can get access to alot information as a tailor. People lower their deflection shields. Mostly.
'its not porn thank god' LMAO
I don't consider them gay. Bashir was straight for sure, and Garak's behavior was always manipulative. While I think to some level Garak does like Bashir, in their last encounter with each other, Garak seems uncomfortable with him being around, and rather dismissive. Someone once described Garak as "job-sexual", and I think that's at least kind of right -- Garak always pursues the person most likely to benefit him. He friends up to Bashir because Bashir is a doctor/friendly/making Federation connections, and he has a relationship with Ziyal because it pisses off Dukat.
The actors thought it was gonna be gay and them Rick Burman told them to straighten it up a little.
I mean I could probably see where you coming from if Garak was like, actually super attached to his ‘job’ if by job you mean being a tailor vs any kind of nondescript spy career he was exiled from but still seems to be entertaining. But the thing is, we learn pretty quickly that being a tailor is kind of something he just does to pass the time, to give himself a purpose on what is otherwise a very cold, very bright very unwelcoming station he is seeking ‘asylum’ on (it would be?) And also, I don’t see how his relationship with Julian can really get him anywhere specific outside of Julian just generally being rather sociable. If Garaks wanted a good ‘in’ so much he would have tried to befriend some other character he is somewhat compatible with - probably Odo? Anyway, that is to say my interpretation is he does all of this with Julian because he is a fruit end of haha.
It seemed clear as day to me that Bashir & Garak were being lined up as a couple, so it was bitterly disappointing that their romance was cancelled due to 90s homophobia. :( I'm glad we have Discovery to queer things up now, but I'll always consider Garashir to be canon.
The actors did a script reading set after DS9 where the two were less, obscure about their connections.
Always hated Garashir as a concept .But it was clear Garak was kind of obsessed Bashir .
If think about their relationship from this side, I think they both were kind of obsessed with each other at the beginning, but it gone with time
the volume is fucked
8:57 'someone should tell them about personal space.' ah, but that's tv for you. happens all the time because of camera angles actors are much nearer to each others faces than in RLK

riiiiiiiiiight that's not subtext that's big neon headlights
to be fair it was "subtext" to the writers but andrew robinson was playing it as gay as he physically could get away with, hes been open about this lol
Garak when Bashir shot him: 😮🥺🥵
I really never considered their relationship like this. It really makes more sense now in prospective.
They were always supposed to be have been a couple, but the TV execs wouldn't allow it so the writers and the actors had to keep it as subtext only, although Andrew Robinson did play Garak as openly gay as was possible under the circumstances.
@@KelseyRuthAU Garak is gay Bashir is platonically interested in him. They become platonically in love.
And even with that and all Andrew Robinson Performance of Garak was To me a Rare to say Perfection.
They were lucky to get AK as well as all the other talent. He needed the money so he said yes to doing it. I bet he thinks of it as a career high, though.
Absolutely DYING at the “myehhh guys can be friends without it being gay” comments, because Andrew Robinson (Garak’s actor) literally said that he portrayed Garak as being attracted to Dr. Bashir.
Yeah I mean straight men and women can be friends also not everything is about romance, but the chemistry between these two (especially from Garak's side) was palpable.
Facts💯
But seriously, who's better friends: Bashir and Garak or Bashir and O'Brien? Due to previous events, Garak & O'Brien don't make the best team
Well, if we speak about FRIENDS it's probably Bashir and O'Brien. They had their ups and downs, but with time they work things out and become pretty good friends (and it's certainly interesting to look at them)
honestly the need to do this is beyond weird as there's more chemistry between O'brien and Bashir than Garak. But still, they're all just friends, men can be close without wanting to bum you know.
You still can, you know? Not watched this video? But I'm glad you did 😊❤️
@@mira_ashhh I did the worst thing for a youtube video, I watched 30 seconds of it and moved away after downvoting. You haven't seen the actors acting out Little Achievements, then, in which they acknowledge the characters' husbandry? The actors are on board with the ship. Allow a little fun in your heart, it's not that serious friend
@@Shindai I would if freaks like yourself would be okay with it when the reverse is done. @@RabbiHerschel not anymore god now wants sodom i am afraid since any relationship you don't like it's happening because he wants to happen
Yes, because men can't just be best friends anymore. They _have_ to be a couple.
The actor for Garak has said multiple times in multiple interviews that he specifically played Garak as a queer man infatuated with Bashir. Both actors agree on the couple. They even voiceacted an 'episode' during the quarantine where the two reunited. Men can be best friends; these two men weren't played as such, though.
You're right and it's sad, but as @moldymulder said, Andrew Robinson did say that he played Garak as a queer man infatuated with Bashir (good taste, btw). So in a way, they WERE a couple. This video IS brilliant too.
@@SpookMrsSpooky Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have complained, because with DS9 in that era it wouldn't be the 'look how gay we are', unnatural in your face nonsense of this era. It would have been handled with decorum and good taste, like the rest of the romances in ST of the time. But the character was not written that way, and all I ever saw were two good friends from very different worlds. To me, it was more about how friendship can happen between people of radically different backgrounds and cultures.
@@Alamandorious Oh I agree totally, and that's how I saw it too - and actually still do. it was much later that I saw Robinson's comments, and thinking back, that does explain that undercurrent that I could sort of see but dismissed as just Garak's personality and mannerisms.
@@SpookMrsSpooky See, I don't see it. The only time there was any sort of indicator was in the Mirror Universe episode...but then again, everyone was a little more...well, more 'modern standards'.
