The VANDALIZED Fender Jazz Bass Episode 2 Preping the body for paint!
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
Hi everyone, welcome back to Guitar Medic, today we’re going to continue working on this Fender Jazz Bass that was vandalized and left for dead. But before I do that, I need to make a decision about the color of the bass. As you can see, it’s currently red, but I’m not sure if I want to keep it that way. I have two other options in mind: surf green or sonic blue. Vote for your favorite color in...
The VANDALIZED Fender Jazz Bass Episode 1
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Guitar Medic, where I restore old and damaged musical instruments. In this first episode, I will show you how I got this 2017 Fender Jazz Bass made in Mexico, which was in a terrible condition. Someone had vandalized the bass, making deep scratches all over the body, neck, and hardware. It was a real mess. The worst part was that the serial number had been scratched ...
Excellent restoration videos series. Fantastic work 👏 👍 👌 🙌
Thanks for watching friend
Very interesting. You're doing fantastic on this bass. The decal was a bit scary, but it came out fantastic 👌
Been following your work. Amazing so far 👏
Many thanks!
Nicely done. Subscribed for the cloth knob pull trick! 😁
Many thanks
80s Jap all the way no comp
Why boil the string so you can just go buy a new pack for $20
I wanted to try it see if it works, 20 bucks is out of some peoples budget sometimes, thought it might help someone
@@GuitarSurgery good point
Love that mim, the surf green is perfect on it.
Thanks so much!
No content over six months, come on man upload some 😂
Im sorry for not posting in such a long time! Thanks for the motivation!
Can I have the model# to that MIM? I love that color would love to own one
Thanks it sold a while ago but i was super happy with the result!
@@GuitarSurgery do you have a email ? I would like to get a quote to get something similar done
I have a 1979 Strat and love the sound. Mine weighs a ton though. Well done !
Thanks for your comment they are really heavy yeah
I just completed a badly abused and neglected P bass a week ago. It had been left in an attic or shed or maybe the trunk of a car for many years. The neck was nothing but firewood. It was so badly bent that it could not be recovered, so I got a new one. I chose satin black and a dark tortoise guard since the neck was rosewood. I got the amber just right on the neck. I basically did everything you just did here, and I'm very pleased with the results. This one is a keeper because it plays and sounds great, just like yours. You have saved a very nice instrument and my hat is off to you, sir. You have done a fine job. I hope you keep up the good work. CHEERS!!
Thank you for the kind words my friend! Enjoy that pbass 🙂
More new content please!
Thanks have been working on a new video stay tuned!
Excellent! I watched this series (Vandalized Jazz Bass) and realized that you are a creator that I can keep up with and learn from. Thanks, subscribed!
Stock vs stock could be fair compare..... mod? No.
Yes but saddly I don't own the Mexican jazz anymore
Restores the bass, then install used strings?????? come on !!!!!!!
Some like the old strings sound but you are right should have put new strings, I just ran out of money for the build
My 2 theories regarding how it got like that: 1. A guy cheated on his girlfriend and she found out and went mad and scratched up his bass. 2. A teenage rich kid thought he was being edgy, he took off the pickguard and gouged the bass to "look more punk"
Your second theory is the actual truth xD
@@GuitarSurgery 😅
There's a Japanese guy who fixes this kind of stuff all the time. He must have a hundred videos of rescues way more stupid than anything I've seen up close. Apparently that sort of thing is common in his part of the world.@@GuitarSurgery
Great job! I'm in the process of refurbishing my 1978 Jazz, rosewood fingerboard. Was re-done in Seafoam Green back in 2000 (huge mistake, lost all the vintage value). This time it's going to be in a Bourbon Burst with a black 3 ply pickguard. Adding new thumb rest and bell covers. Pickups are Dimarzio Ultra Jazz, installed back in 2000.
Awesome! Hope every thing turns out great with your restoration!
ベース弦位は新品使おうよ、煮たってすぐに死ぬ。
Awesome job. But I would have just cleaned it, the age was clearly already showing. Home made ageing always look fake, even CS from Fender looks awful sometimes. But good work nevertheless and your friend is happy. The Jesus mark must have been a sticker, I had a sticker on my strat once that make the same mark.
Thanks for your watching I will stear away from relic Jobs for the moment 🙂
Great work in the end! I hope you rock that bass that is unique
Thank you! Made it in the end 🙂
Your waterslide decals were crap. I used one in the past and didn't need to put any clear coat on it and it slid right away.
Yes they are not the best quality at all, thanks for watching
I've tried to apply those waterslide decals too. Oh man, they can be awful to work with.
Yeah they are tough but after a coat of clear they are much easier to deal with! Thanks for watching 🙂
I like your trick for pulling the knobs off. Very handy. It's a lot better than using a knife or screwdriver to pry them off. I wrap the ground wire around one of the bridge screws.
Great tip thanks for watching 🙂
Wow, she must have been REALLY mad at him.
Yeah totally looks like it!
That thing is beautiful
Thank you!
Always a cool thing to watch restorations. Thanks!
Thanks!
great work!
Thank you!
Mex ❤
Thenx :)
Se ve que lo hicieron por algo pasional, alguna tóxica …
Buena teoría xD
Love the colour! Im not sure why you'd put a made in Mexico wetslide, but hey....
Check out first episode for the answer! Thank you for your comment and welcome to the channel
Mmmm Prego lacquer thinner sauce. Just like how mom used to make.
Her recipe is exquisite 🙂
So what week are you going to do the Devil's Tele ?
Have to find the right one for that! Lol thanks for your comment!
I love my Fender Jazz and I love seeing you bring this one back to life. Nice work! Doing this level of damage to Jazz bass or any musical instrument should be a serious crime with a mandatory prison sentence!!!
Thanks for watching! Welcome to the channel
The color is a good choice, it's like granite or a palette you'd see in an art museum.
Thanks!!!
Those are the most unusable tone pickups you can put on a guitar 🎸 👎
Not for everybody
takes too bad,
You did not make a mistake. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The guitar is an eye catcher! Keep doing what you are doing! Thanks for sharing!
Thanx for your comment ❤️
Dude your channel and content are amazing! I have no clue how you haven't gone viral yet. Keep it up brother :)
Thank you! Hope the TH-cam lords listen to you xD
I like it its one of a kind like no other finish
thank you! I really love it now for the same reason
Suave la parte de atrás no se tapa? Me cuadraba más con el toque transparente jejej pero diay son gustos. Buen brete Memo 🫶🏼
Gracias Pana! mucha gente le deja la parte de atrás descubierta
Don't listen to any one about anything. Do what you want its your guitar. Love the way it sounds those are grate pickups. The finish is really cool I actually developed the technic... yea I'm that old.
Thanks for your comment! I also love those pickups and great to have an AOK from the man who wrote the book! cheers
@@GuitarSurgery I think I'm gona have to get some of those.
Relicing is such a rotten thing to do to a guitar. Why not let it age naturaly?
Its very hard to naturally relic Fenders from the 70's they have a lacquer that can resist almost anything, some have a nitro top coat that will wear but the base coat under it won't FYI
are the drums real or midi in the demo song? sounds great
They are stock ableton drum kits would you belive it. Thanks for your comment and welcome to the channel!
Awesome! Can you share what specific types and brand of paints did you add to the water? How many different colors did you add, and how much paint of each color?
Im sorry but I don't remember exactly, I always recomend marble magic paints! Thank you for your comment and welcome to the channel!
It’s a studio you can’t ruin its value! lol
Totally 😆
I think it looked better with the original patina and pick guard. Taking off the Jesus that was ghosted into the finish made it lose something.
That's a very valid argument, but the owner felt uninspired by that look, and he should be able to enjoy his guitar how he likes it, but I can completly understand what you mean. Welcome to the channel!
Superglue trick is 100% legit. I worked at the fender USA factory in Corona, CA. You guys would be surprised how many USA fenders are out there with superglue fixes right out of the factory
Wow did not know that! Great to know its legit, welcome to the channel! 🙂
@GuitarSurgery Thank you! Just binged all the videos today lol. the most common time for superglue at fender is after the bodies come off the CNC machines and before they get sprayed with a sealer, the neck pockets are notorious for chipping. it's also common after the sealer coat if there are any dings or damage done to the bodies before actual painting. But, when I do guitar work on my own, I do it exactly the way you did. Superglue hardens and builds up quickly, I prefer it over other methods like wood filler or bondo (automotive body filler). it's quicker to sand and repaint
@@TristanPSterling That's so cool I wish I could get a tour of the factory someday! yeah I agree about the super glue it's much faster.
@GuitarSurgery They used to give them to the public before the pandemic, but stopped during it. I left before the pandemic restrictions were lifted, they might be giving them out again. If you're ever in California, I would recommend it!
Wouldn't alcohol dry out the fret board?
You know it does but it also takes the grime off without scrapping, once finished I apply lemon oil. Good catch thanks for your comment 🙂
Incrível! Parabéns!
I had a 1978 Strat, great guitar I really miss it. Love the guitar story, lol
Glad to know someone appreciated it, thanks for your comment and welcome to the channel 🙂
Very nice job!
Thank you for your comment!
You're welcome! I love Fender guitars. I also love Jesus, but I'm not really into having his name embedded into a vintage instrument.
@@tomastuharsky LOL maybe if my name was Jesus I actually know a couple here then i would have kept it.
