Play midi files in Loopy Pro using Sweet Midi
An example of how you can use Loopy pro as a mixer for all of your midi file backing tracks.
Just because you are looping now, doesn’t mean that you have to discard all those midi file backing tracks. Incorporate them into Loopy Pro.
This idea works independently of the loopy pro clock. Loopy Pro acts as a controller for the midi file player.
Apps used include Sweet midi, Loopy Pro, Roland Sound Canvas, Bismark BS-16i

This is a storybook overview of how I loop Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. I use Loopy Pro on iPad, and utilise ToneStack Pro, DIgiStix2. Behringer FLOW 8 interface Yamaha APX7 guitar My vocal queues in this video are for instructional purposes. I am not looping my voice just yet. Check out my channel for more Loopy Pro content. First how to video, I hope it helps someone in the loopy pro community. Using program change to change patches via Loopy Pro widget. I am an acoustic guitar player, and I love making templates for live use. Gear used: Behringer Flow8 interface, iPad 10 gen, Yamaha APX7 guitar.

If I want to use a microphone and a guitar (from quad cortex) would my scarlet solo interface work or do I need it to be a mixer?
@@Grael_bbx I’m not sure, I use the behringer Flow8 for everything. It is a mixer as well if something goes wrong , I have a backup.
Thanks for the video. Does Tonestack Pro support using AUV3 plugins for "pedals" in the chain. I know it's built in pedals or plugins are nice, but I really like the FabFilter, the Eventide, etc. which I've purchased? Right now, I use an aduiobus for each preset, and then route the audio signal from the IN to the specific audiobus I select for the preset. The frustrating part there is the step dials are not designed well for this; users need to "scroll thru" or "nudge thru" or "step thru" to the specific preset, WITHOUT actions happening or executing for the other presets along the way, which I do not want to select. There are feature requests in the roadmap; who knows if they'll get to them, or even understand the issue. Extra frustration with LP. I love the ability to use studio grade plugins (the ones I mentioned), but the preset selection issue a problem. It would be so cool if Tonestack Pro allowed you to use AUV3 plugins in the chain along with their own plugins /pedals. Thanks again for a great video!!
I like your template I just downloaded and bought Loopy Pro. I don\t have digi sticks yet. I just got the Spark Live and will be implementing this with that unit. I currently have quick drums on the Ipad and the Spark Live software. I have connected the Akai MP218 to the IPad also. So I have many things to learn on each of these units. I bought a little Tripod table that will hold the MP218, has holder for phone and I can lay the I pad on it. I got a mic stand and sure mic. No Midi foot controller or floor switches yet. I talked with a guy in Nashville using the Boss RC-600. This is a much cheaper way to go than buying that unit.
@@triplev3539 I hope it is going well for you.
Hey Andrew, I’m trying to setup a template like yours but for some reason loopypro keeps on losing the Digistix patterns. Seems buggy…. Where do you save your drum patterns for the different instances of Digistix? Cheers!!!!
Great set up. thanks for sharing :)
thank you for your help. it did work
How do get your clips not to pick up your drums went you record? I tryed changing the channels but loopy did not let me do it. please explain.
Don’t send your drums to any colors. I never record the drums, they just stay in pattern mode.
Hermanito del alma, me ayudaste un montón, muchas gracias ❤ saludos desde Chile.
Great video, when you count in your song, is it like a tap tempo, meaning that the tempo of your song adjust to your count
Yes the purple donut is key. I use it as a one bar tap tempo. It runs throughout the project so that the patterns remain triggered in Digistix2. Lots of options.
Awesome template. Would you be willing to share it? Great work man.
That’s interesting. Thanks for sharing and by the way - great singing.
thanks for sharing! it looks like a template i and work with! How are your loops set for bars etc, im not sure how to set them when you have a variety of songs and phrase lengths? and how do you group the colours together - eg yellow
The only loop with set length is my purple dummy loop for 1 bar. Tempo set. Everything else is unset. Yellow always guitar, green always has effect via ToneStack and white keyboards from within loopy pro.
Hello Andrew I'm using Loopy pro with ToneStack Pro and I would like to contraill the WAH Pedal of Tonestack Pro with my Expression Pedal. Do you have an Idea how to controll that WAH going up and down. TANK you !
Awesome tutorial. I have attempted to build a similar rig with DigiStix - this is greatly appreciated!
Email me if you want a copy so you can reverse engineer it. The latest version has a few new features.
@@AndrewKucks That would be amazing, much appreciated. I would love to tool around with your template. Is your email address in the info on the video?
Thanks for this. I’m new to iPad and Loopy Pro, haven’t got Digi2 yet. You are doing what I want and trying to do, a solo guitar performance live. This has been very helpful. Template available? Wish I see mapping in LP also. Oh yeah, how are doing bass and putting in LP? Do I need help or what? 😅
Happy to share template. Reverse engineer it and steal bits for your own workflow.
Follow actions on loop launch is genius. I will be stealing that for my setup!
@@Densmode3dp how is it going? Are you still using it?
@@AndrewKucks I kinda go in spurts when it comes to music! Right now I’m working more on the pc in cubase and maschine, but when I feel like jamming I bust out loopy. I did utilize this technique into my template, which allowed me to sum my 4 inputs into one in loopy, simplifying things.
Great video! I'm unclear on how you are setting the tempo... Can you please explain?
Hi … thanks for uploading this video. What do you play your midi files into to get your good sounds?
Can you show all of your connections, ins and outs of everything and gear used, cables etc?
Sexy and talented thanks for sharing 😊 loopy pro
How do you know which PC is for each PRESET in Tonestack pro? Thanks!
Trial and error really, from memory I put all my ToneStack presets into one bank. Then you can set up the stepped dial to send midi / program change/ to virtual midi out on channel 7 and the value to the preset number in brackets in your ToneStack pro preset list. In my case, that’s value 0,1 & 2
Thank you for such a useful video. I've got a bunch of new ideas from it. Cheers
Thank you! Nice setup! Subbed and liked.
Thanks for the sub!
Hi Andrew and thanks for you videos. beginner with loopy pro i need you to help me. I use LP with my electro acoustic guitar an irig hd x and an ipad (9 gen). i have tone stack pro and I wish to switch effects like in this video. I thought i could find tone stack as a audio unit input but no. it seems i have to create a new bus with tone stack effects but don't mange to follow your tuto.
Have you got this template? I’m happy to share it with you. That might help you to reverse engineer how I’ve made it. Find me in the Facebook loopy pro user group or email me first babe dot last name at gmail dot com
Great Video! Love seeing your template and use of Loopy Pro along with Tone Stack and DigiStix 2. Looking forward to more Loopy Pro videos.
Looks like a great setup. Looking forward to checking it out later. Thanks.
hey bud, this is amazing stuff. i've just recently got an ipad an loopy pro and am having a ball with it! just wondering in this video how your changing between the patterns and how you would make that button for it. i'm having trouble finding the operation to trigger them between loopy and digistix. would be amazing if you could tell us or show us on a video!
I’ve used the swipe left, swipe up and swipe Right to send a midi message program change to each instance of the digistix where I have pre baked a couple variations. Find me on the Facebook Loopy Pro Users forum. I’m happy to send you a copy. Or take a punt on my Gmail address that has a dot between my first and second names.
So awesome to see how others use Loopy Pro. What an awesome template for playing live! Was cool to see how you work and switch loops; I’ve been struggling on how to smoothly loop songs with a different chorus. Thanks for sharing!😊
Thank you Andrew, I"m learning a lot from your videos
How you get Roland Canvas on the iPad?
I don’t think it’s supported anymore. It’s not in the App Store here in Australia. I just love the sounds so I’m doing this so that I can still use my version as long as possible. You can use bismark as an inter app audio to achieve the same 16 channel midi receive.
Do you know how to share/export a template?
Hey new subscriber good stuff always wanted to get into looping this showed up Good song to thankyou 👍
Hi Andrew, thank you very much for your presentation. Your use of Digistix2 is fabulous and exact what I am looking for! I want to recreate your template, but I didn't find any information in the Digistix manual about how to play and stop a drum pattern via midi command. Only information about switching pattern with Midi CC20 value 0-23. In addition, the function of your purple Donat (one bar tempo) at the bottom right is not entirely clear to me, how it works and how to program it. Does it send midi to Digistix to adjust tempo? I would be very grateful for an answer because I can't find you in the Loopy Pro community(?) to ask for sending me your template. 🙏
Email me Andrew.kucks@gmail.com I will send
@@AndrewKucks Thanks Andrew! 🙏 I send you an email. 👍 Wish you all the best! 🍀
Hi Andrew - I love the set up and thanks for taking the time to showcase. You have given me some good ideas. If you could share the template It would be awesome.
I would really appreciate a copy of your template; I’m a newbie, and it looks fantastic!
That’s a great run down. Thank you. The swipe drum alternatives are fabulous.
Good video thx
Thank you sir
Thanks for the great video Andrew! I am just getting started with Loopy Pro. Are you not using an audio interface to connect the audio from the iPad to the PA? I play in an acoustic trio and want to use DigiStixs 2 for drums. Do you preset the beats for each song in advance or do you do it on the fly live? A video would be great when you get a chance. Cheers Keith
I use the behringer FLOW8 as my interface, and my live mixer. You should check it out. More videos to come.
Great looking forward to it! Cheers @@AndrewKucks
Do you have the FLOW8 connected to the iPad via Bluetooth or wired to the desk? @@AndrewKucks
This is really helpful. Thank you so much for being so generous with your set up.
