Why You SHOULDN'T Buy a V8 Vantage in 2021 | What people don't tell you
มุมมอง 92K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Considering buying an Aston Martin V8 Vantage? Here's everything that the reviews won't tell you. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is fundamentally a flawed car, not only does it not quite fit comfortably in a market segment, but it has a lot of issues which have caused owners to quickly sell them on in frustration. Doug DeMuro himself said he would never own one without a warranty and when he sold ...

PCP Car Finance is DESTROYING your wealth
I tried to break the sports car constant changing habit, ended up buying a Diesel Vauxhall Mokka, in part cos it was less road tax a year that my V6 TT was per month. After 5 years of reliable soul crushing monotony, I’ve finally broke and today went on Ebay and bought the cheapest, no service history, high mile Porsche cayman listed. Wish me luck 😂
Stopping to open up a gap: I’ve been doing that on B roads for decades. I’m probably going to order a new A110 next week. Been doing the research for a while, but I think the tube has come.
The roof rubbers need to be lubricant often , that’s the most noise from these great cars ..
I bought a 2015 standard Vantage. I used to sell them new and love the Sportshift 2, so direct and fast if you wish it to be. Mine has the S brakes and steering rack standard but softer suspension which make it better on U.K. A and B roads. I drive it in manual mode 90 percent, but non sport auto in town. I had Bamford Rose do sports Cats and stage 2 mods so now has manual switchable exhaust and circa 455 bhp. Also added AM innovations headlight vent system…. Just enjoy.
Silly question but where can you get the Life110 setup if you're not from the UK?
That's exactly my car, just the steering wheel is on the wrong side. 😅 God I love this thing.
i bought a Golf mk8 6 months ago, before buying it i did all my research and am sure i made the correct decision, i don't drive much so its perfect for me but theres this thing constantly in the back of my mind that keeps telling me to get something more powerful. came across this video which convinced the voice to shut up. I know that even if i do get something more powerfull ill get bored and start thinking i should've got something else
Who needs a cup hold?
Cheers, I'm not looking to buy a 'fun' car. I've had a few of those. I have a 14 Focus, beat up, making creaks etc; purchased after a C Class I had lived in the repair garage having 2 engines, an ECU, and countless other things. I'm in a spot where the car I have is pretty poor and sat pondering do I buy something new on finance or repair the issues with this high mileage cheap car. Whether we're talking about Aston Martin's or Ford's the points are the same. I can buy a newer car on HP or PCP but then I spend more each month than I would just fixing any outstanding issues on the current vehicle. The change from the Mercedes to what I have now was a system shock but one I made (well firstly because I needed a car whilst the other had exploded) because it's no fun having something nice if you never get to drive it. I'll change my mind next week, we all do, but it seems to me best to run it into the ground fixing things when it needs doing. I think the other thing to think about in this video is, it's all well and good having a certain car but the moment it becomes unreliable and impacts your life it's also time to go. Being bored of a good car isn't a good enough reason for a change - I sold the most reliable car I ever had because it was too boring, the next car I bought for more fun cost me countless thousands in repairs despite being good on paper!
Never comment but this is absolutely 100 percent accurate in every single word.
It’s the friendship and connections that you have built up with your car will make you happy
Prelude yeh, 2.2 yeh. 😂
yup... totally nailed it. I feel I should make myself watch this video every time I get the auto-trader itch.
Give me an S-Type Celica and I'll stop.
Yeah it’s my biggest problem.. always wanting to buy cars.. even though I can’t afford them!🤣🤣 I irritate my wife as I’m always on auto trader here in NZ..
Just completed 5 years with my bmw 530i touring and I am very happy with it…looking forward to the next 5
Thought it was a ford puma at first glance
Everything you said is true. Don't daily your dream car. Buy a cheap and reliable daily and keep your dream car to those special morning drives or events.
I needed a video like this; just secured finance, haven't even collected the car and have been looking into a cheeky 'second car' option lol. Honestly it's important to just get out there and experience the roads. A Dacia Spring was more fun than most cars I've driven because you could floor the accelerator and weave around
What kind of breed is the dog? It looks hella mean with that big nose!
This is probably one of the best automotive advice I have heard in a long time. Plus the presentation was on point!
I want one so bad
Engine destination is not the mark of reliability friend. Its how often it breaks.. yes everyone counts the little things. I don't know how your friends live but if i had a ford that broke 4 or 5 times a year id absolutely say it is unreliable pos Your weird bro
I have a 2016 BMW M2 and a 2000 Lotus Exige. I could afford newer cars, and cars that are faster. But these two cars satisfy my driving needs. I don't drive much miles, but driving both of them is a special occasion, especially the Lotus! I have been to rally schools, and plan to go to the Lotus driving academy. Driving pleasure is far more important than the car you drive!
This has been my whole life, always running a bit skint because of running fast cars n big bikes at the same time, often having a couple on the go at the same time, early 20s had a 2.8 capri and an sd1 vitesse and a 1000 exup at the same time, god knows how looking back..... Sold the two cars to put towards a 2 year old lwb shogun because the wife was pregnant, had that until the assault on 4x4s started so got out of it while it was still worth something, + the 1000 exup and a 205 gti id gotten back to mint plus a big bank loan ..... All in for a 2 year old impreza sti..... Had that for 7 years sold it to a mate at a 50% loss.... Bought a vw t5 camper 13 years ago (which we've still got) for memories with the kids....., got fed up with that as my daily 7 years ago and bought a lovely triple black porsche cayenne 😱😱 was incredible but another big bank loan as i had a lucrative (but legal) side business , up until covid F it up leaving me with big payments i could have done without, got out of that last year because of how things are going with "big cars" 🙄🙄.... Another 50% loss in depreciation, if id have waited until now itd be 75% loss, had a NDE last year so thought F it, looked at aston vantage, caymans, v8 mustang.....M2 but just couldn't justify the servicing and depreciation, i dread to think what ive lost on cars in my 35 years of performance cars,, finally settled on a Focus Rs..... As its an awesome car and hopefully shouldn't suffer depreciation,, at 53 its DEFINITELY my last car......... I swear its a Illness,, i just cant afford to blow thousands in depreciation any more.
I recently bought a 2010 Mercedes C Class 350c V6 estate diesel and I love it. Cant believe i missed out on driving one of these for so long.
So much wisdom and (not so common) common sense here
That is also a problem I have, and what is more I found that no car is good enough - every one has terrible issues and is deeply unsatisfactory in some way
Look up the ncap rating. 😮
I enjoy searching for the next car :)
An interesting analysis of the car ownership experience and I would agree with the points you are making. For my working week I am entirely content driving my small modern Transit van, its is functional and does everything. For fun I look forward to driving my Stratos Replica which I could have sold many times over the years but have resisted. It has now been in my ownership for 34 years and It still is an event when I take it out.
Take this as a compliment, but like everyone else, I thought you were a John Travolta lookalike, reviewing an Alpine A110GT…!😉👍🤣
Liked the video because Dog
I clicked on this video. For the oppersit reason. To find out why I was so dissatisfied with alot of cars I've had in the past. Finding any excuse to get rid. But I've oddly solved that issue by buying a Van. And a £1000 shed of a focus st170 which for a change. I am not trying to get rid. (Allthough the mk2 st225 is tempting). It's failed on 8 majors and 6 minors. So it's being fixed. If it was any other car it would have sold on or scrapped. P.s. I hate my van mostly because its a renult.
I’m exactly the same! Really interesting video and I now totally agree on ‘don’t daily your special car’. I have a Cayman GTS 4.0 currently (which I used to daily but now don’t) and I wanted to trade it in for a Spyder RS as to me it looks just about perfect. But the Cayman is also perfect!?! I will no doubt drive the Spyder a lot less and it is so much more money. Over Xmas I had a lot of reflection time and decided against the Spyder. The Cayman IS perfect and it’s also a manual 😊
I had a 13 plate Vantage some years ago, I didn’t care for the box at all, it really was sluggish in auto. In the end I just used it in manual most of the time and it was fine like that. I sold it and bought a Porsche, the PDK in that was so much better, in both modes. I did miss the V8’s sound though!
Love seeing a modern Aston. They're a bit rare here inAu mostly due the biblically stupid price.
Maybe you haven't found your "the one car". If I look out the window at my Jag, even now after 8 years, I still get this wow moment sometimes. I daily drive it and go on random drives on a nice weekend, with no goal, just to drive. Still makes me happy. Will keep it till it falls apart. I think, making fitting choices for oneself and contentment, may play a part into this.
Does this X5 have the n62 that suffers from valve stem issues?
It does yes. No signs of this issue on ours though.
Dogs in the car?
perfect video, currently have a Audi S3, thought it would be the great all rounder, which it is on paper. But I do find a lack of fun or engagement, and somewhat unusable power. There really is no all rounder without comprimises, I really am looking to someday have a 981 in manual
In my case it was the case of budget and understanding my own needs - for years I’ve been buying the cars I could afford, not the ones I really wanted and actually thought about the replacement from the day one of ownership of each of those cars. Then I finally bought my dream daily driver and that urge was just gone… … just to be replaced by the urge to get something special apart of my daily car. I did quite a good research, tried numerous ones and eventually got one and this time this urge is gone, period. I absolutely love those cars and totally don’t want to change any of those two. Maybe one day I’ll get crazy rich and will extend the fleet, but no replacement is an option as long as I’ll be able to afford it. One case is that I just understood what I really need well and the cars that I have are really different from one another, yet just great at what they should do, so anytime I get in any of those I just get smile on my face and admire their qualities. The second case is that it just wouldn’t make any sense, in case of my daily* driver I’d just waste a ton of money to get a car that at the end of the day would have basically the same chassis and engine, but with the fancier badge and ECU pushing more boost, in case of my weekend* car there is just nothing on the market that would be that much fun and raw yet daily-driveable without compromises 🤷🏻♂️ * - to be honest I’m not sure if those terms make any sense here as I drive my „weekend” car anytime when it’s warm, dry and I don’t need more than two seats and too much of the luggage space and use the „daily” anytime any of the conditions above is not met 😅
The hedonic treadmill
Excellent review. As a prospective buyer I thought it provides genuinely fresh info.
Just be thankful you only do this with cars. I do it with cars and bikes! Had over 40 cars and 25 bikes. I think there is something wrong with us.
Most car companies now offer online configurators. In the past you had to visit a dealership to see a car or ask for a glossy-printed leaflet. Back then you had to extremely lucky to see such expensive cars on the road. The reason you ask for more is because they wired you to do so. Never-ending consumerism believing you are something. You end up being a dissatisfied consumer, having spend so much money for cars that cost a lot to buy/run/insure/service/maintain 'cos you thought that this "special car" made you a "special person". Give me an BMW E38/Alpina B12 or a '90s Mercedes SL500 I was dreaming of in my teens. Don't fancy modern sporty cars or supercars with big spoilers, loud engines and 1,000 BHP wrapped in silly colours.
i made this mistake a few times. i now buy a car thats made for the actual thing im gonna use it for. What you say @7:00 , that is 100% true, because those cars like rs6, bmw m3, i5n, tesla plaid etc etc are not very good sports cars, and they are not very good in comfort or economic driving. To expensive over engineerd for normal use, to comfortable and heavy for serious fun and mountain roads. i would say, buy a normal car like a audi a3, and a special one , crazy color, like a lotus exige or porsche boxster / clio rs for the weekends. dont focus on the parameters but drive it and feel it.
Because at the end of the day, it's a material thing. The gratification that from ownership will never "fulfill" you. You have to find meaning elsewhere.
My daily is a Mercury ‘03 Grand Marquis LS and absolutely love the car. It does it all. Roomy, comfortable and dependable. Super cheap to maintain, inexpensive personal property taxes and to insure My other car is a ‘24 911 (992.2) GTS manual with all the right options. Great car but the MGM is so easy to live with. It’s winter here in Northern Virginia and the MGM is perfect. Glad I clicked on your video, well done. Happy New Year
