Thanks for listening! I drilled a hole in the bottom that goes a little over halfway into the wood. The piezo sits in the hole, held w/ a glued dowel, and is wired to the 1/4" jack coming in from the end.

Thank you! Big Knob uses a rotating steel brush against springs. There are piezos on the bottom for a more scraping sound and piezos on top for a more grinding sound. You can see the insides of Big Knob here: www.noisecharm.com/nc_sb_main.html

Thanks! The bow is a Roosebeck Psaltery Bow, available from different places, here's one (www.ensoulmusic.com/Roosebeck-Psaltery-Bow). The hairs are looser than a violin bow. It doesn't work for everything, but it's perfect on this cardboard box!

Yes, they can be noisy. It's important to use a mic preamp with a level control. The preamp will convert mic signal to line level and help control noise. I use a Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre. Any of the Focurite Clarett+ or Scarlett models are good and there are other brands with similar features. Sometimes I also use the Whirlwind Imp 2 direct box, it removes additional hum/noise. I put it between the contact mic and the mic preamp. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for checking out the video. It's a 50mm piezo. I drilled a 2" hole on the underside that goes about halfway up into the block. And I drilled a path for the wires and 1/4 inch jack.

Thanks for checking it out! It's a wood block with a piezo mic placed into a cutout on the underside. The piezo is wired to a 1/4" jack. Once a cable is plugged in, it's ready to go.
