Cakewalk By Bandlab: Multiband Plugin (Underrated!!!)
Sonitus Multiband in the Cakewalk By Bandlab startup bundle is a pretty old plugin, but it's functionality is often overlooked. Now with all kinds of new users, I offer that it may be something that can be immediately useful and absolutely powerful when used appropriately.

Cakewalk By Bandlab: PC76 & PC2A Vocal Compression Thoughts
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
Answering a viewer/subscriber question: How would I use PC76 and PC2A for vocals? Here I take us through a process for what I'm listening for when using PC76 and PC2A. It's not universal, but will give some hints to what to listen for, and how to consider vocal compression within a mix. I give examples using a song from Mike Senior's Cambridge MT repository (big thanks to Mike Senior for this r...
AudioDiscovery Voice Processing (lazy)
มุมมอง 91ปีที่แล้ว
Broos Isinda House asked about how the voice settings, seemed like compression was the main interest. This video is an explanation of how I made the decisions on how to process my voice, and how it can be done using Cakewalk by Bandlab.
Clippers!!! (And a nod to Boz DL)
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
Using Clippers is a fantastic way to manage dynamics, and Boz Digital Labs just released two updates/reversions of their classic Little Clipper and Big Clipper. The upgrade price was too good to pass up, but they're still pretty inexpensive for what you get, and in this video, I want to explain why.
Cakewalk By Bandlab - Pitch Shifting Individual Clips
มุมมอง 13Kปีที่แล้ว
Cakewalk by Bandlab will let you quickly clip out sections, and you can add effects on the clips instead of the whole track. In this video, I demostrate how. The first 3 minutes are explaining why. The next 2-3 minutes, I explain why to use KiloHearts Pitch Shifter instead of the Transpose function in Cakewalk. The demonstration of adding Pitch Shift to individual clips happens 5-6 minutes in, ...
Mix Topic: Phase (part 1?)

My long-winded explanation about phase relationships when more than one microphone is used on a single source. What happens to the signal when I flip the phase?
Fretboard Logic - Major Chords/Scale
มุมมอง 882 ปีที่แล้ว
The fretboard, as a jigsaw puzzle, can be demystified with just a few helpful concepts to understand. In this video I unpack how I think about the organization of the fretboard and how it affects major chords. We start at open chords and learn how they will influence further understanding of the movable chords, which give way to different chord voicings.
Cakewalk By Bandlab: Know Your Compressors - PC2A Explanation
มุมมอง 6492 ปีที่แล้ว
I recorded, narrated, edited a ton of takes, and really could not come up with an equivalent video for the PC2A compared to what I was able to do with the PC76. That being said, I discuss the PC2A in context and explain the simplistic beauty that is working with one "Compression" knob with a make-up gain that happens after the signal manipulation has been applied. There will be a future video c...
Cakewalk by Bandlab: Know your Compressors - PC76 vs Paid 1176 Emulations
มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
(Seasoned compression veterans can cut to 6:30 to skip my introduction and go straight to the emulation comparisons.) The 1176 is a classic for a reason. Lightning fast attack and release settings make it easy to tailor some ridiculously cool sounds. We process a drum buss from the Gravediggers' Cambridge offering (thank you Mike Senior) using the PC76 (ProChannel 1176 Emulation) against some o...
Cakewalk by Bandlab - ProChannel Series PC76 (Teaser)
มุมมอง 6152 ปีที่แล้ว
Are you sleeping on PC76? Meaning: Do you use Cakewalk exclusively and are in the market for other 1176 emulations without first using the one you've got? ! Well, wake up and smell the compression! You can get some major character with this provided emulation of a classic (and quintessential) dynamics processor. This is a teaser/trailer for a longer video comparing PC76 against some well-known ...
Response Video: Thoughts about IVGI (Klanghelm)
มุมมอง 4512 ปีที่แล้ว
TH-cam user Bananer Mat asked me what I thought of IVGI from Klanghelm. I've had the plugin for 5 years but never used it extensively, so I couldn't respond with much expertise. So I decided to "Discover" it along with all of you. It was a really good lesson, overall. I learned that IVGI imparted a non-insignificant amount of color and character to the signal, and share what I found in this vid...
Spotlight On: Sigurd Jensen - Composer/Musician
มุมมอง 652 ปีที่แล้ว
Really excited to talk to a talented modern-day composer. He's the every-guy, with ideas just the same. He's got great ideas and is able to go from inception to composition. Meet Sigurd. He's from Denmark, and he's a multi-instrumentalist. With a love for horror and video games, he threw in his hat to come up with soundtracks for his favorite environments. They brought him to one of his tracks ...

Cakewalk by Bandlab - Know Your Saturators
มุมมอง 2.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
There's a dirty little secret about Cakewalk by Bandlab: you have saturation and distortion options that come with your daw, they just hadn't made them very evident. This video compares the saturation modules against each other, and some of their paid counterparts.
Cakewalk by Bandlab - Very Basic Vocal Production Ft. TDR Nova
มุมมอง 2.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Some thoughts about using TDR Nova in the context of vocal production: Using the Spectrum Analyzer, High Pass and Low Pass filters, standard EQ, dynamic EQ, Wideband compression and side-chaining into the Nova dynamic control detector circuit for some creative dynamics. The vocals are from Fergessen acquired through Mike Senior's Cambridge Multitracks Library: cambridge-mt.com/ms/mtk/#Fergessen

Thank you very much for sharing this information and for taking the time. thank you
Watching at 1.75 speed 😅
How to do that with midi?
freeze the audio first
Thank you!! Learning this cause I'm playing with the pitch of my guitar in a new song I'm working on 🤓 I recorded the vocals while unaware my guitar was tuned a lil flat. So now I wanna experiment with making my polished guitar track a lil flat instead of redoing the vox. Lol
Nice! There MAY be better pitch shift plugins, as this was a while ago
@@AudioDiscoveryVids I am excited to try this pack out regardless 😆
Cakewalk is a great Daw
Very ironic that a video about audio that's all choppy, breaking up.
Dude, I hope you take this as constructive criticism, but your "uum"s are jarring through this video. I do appreciate the help though
Much appreciated! I'll probably re-tool the videos as I'm hearing this is a common complaint (sorry about that).
I would like to change the background of my meters in Cakewalk by Bandlab as I saw in your version of Cakewalk. Would you like to share your theme with me? Thank you in advance! Greetings, Ben Vogelzang.
In addition to the interesting theme in this video, for which I have my compliments and thanks, I admire your Cakewalk decoration. I particularly like your meters. But also your other colors used. My question; Can and will you help me with the theme you use to customize my Cakewalk by Bandlab?
Is this a joke - they're not even turned on!
just play the plugin, horrible video, weis time
Thanks for your feedback
Your mind is somewhere else
Thanks for your observation
@@AudioDiscoveryVids no problem buddy, I'm here if you need to talk
Interestingly i really liked the sound of the digital compressor 😂
do you know how to pitch vocals without changing the key?
This is such an amazing show! I am a new fan! Bobby is extremely talented artist and he's a joy to listen to!
WE LOVE BOBBY KANE!
How do I use the APC Mini to do the clip launching and so on?
Is this pitch shifting free and how do I get it?
Yeah! It's in the Kiloheartz bundle. That whole bundle is great, definitely a must- have! Google kiloheartz
@@AudioDiscoveryVids yeah I tried that but it says it costs $399. Can you please provide the link to the one you are using?
Did you try this here...? kilohearts.com/products/kilohearts_essentials
Great Info. The Sonitus plugins are very capable. Here is a tip when comparing plugins on same source material I use. Track 1 engage solo button. Right click solo button-Go to group and pick a color/red example. Disengage that track-Next go to next track and engage solo button. Right click solo button-Go to group and select same red color. Now you can A/B tracks by clicking either solo button once. Eliminates having to disable 1 plugin and enable the other.😀
Yo bro I just downloaded CW but my vocals are high pitched how do I make it normal? Like it’s sounds high pitched/squeaky/sped up
Sounds like an issue with the soundcard and sample rate setting... it's kinda a long troubleshooting process to find it, find the Cakewalk Discord channel, we can help
Am I missing something? They are not turned on.
thanks so much im new to cakewalk this really improve my mix. looking forward to eq mixing
Didn't know I could send to multiple categories. Awesome. Thanks!
The attack and release is for the limiter not the clipper
Ah, yes. Thanks for the clarification, that makes sense.
I mean... I guess... umm... errr... I mean (sic), maybe you should write what you'll say before hitting record.
I mean... I could...
mix knob, me like :-) And oversampling on the little one. nice!
This was very helpful indeed, thank you very much!
Will love to see how you would use both of those compressors on a vocal… great tips btw
Video incoming!
Awesome, many thanks! 🙌 Not just because the voice treatment, but you showed me stuff I use on Cakewalk and there were some missing features and controls I didn't realized when learned how to use them. The only thing is about the Sonitus Gate... I didn't catch what depth and lookahead actually do. I guess the last one, but do it close and open sound abruptly or gradually? Could you explain what do they do? (It's ok just with words in a comment 😊)
Right on! It's fun to dig in reverse engineer some sounds using the stock plugs. I did a video on the tube saturator that --for free-- is not a bad option (but definitely wouldn't compare to a paid plug like Black Box, or Saturn...).
Thanks! How you treated your voice for this video? I like the way the compressor works, it would be awesome if you show how you set it up 🙌
Thanks for the interest! I just shot a response video and am uploading soon, so stay tuned!
Thanks for this, am looking to see if they are worth buying.
I think they have a trial period, they're major upgrades from the previous versions, and also, they run alongside the prior versions, so it's like getting new plugins, essentially
@@AudioDiscoveryVids i am a bit of a plug in addict so was trying to quit then saw this on special lol. Pluralis is great btw.
Yeah, I need to spend some real time with Pluralis, I haven't used anything like it, and I feel the mid-side (and even quiet-loud) functions will be very useful from a mix perspective... and all in all a great creative tool
Is this a free plug in? I don't see it in my downloaded effects. Thanks
It's from a third-party plugin developer called Kiloheartz... they have a free plugin bundle with a bunch of effects and utilities, pitch-shifting being one of them
@@AudioDiscoveryVidsthank you for this link! Bestpractice stutters on my pc windows10 64bit now. This is what i was looking for.
I have tried to save a track template for my vocal with inserts/patch points for routing to an external harmonizer. Unfortunately the patch points did not save. My work around was simply saving a template song which is now my starting point for any new project. It has all of the MIDI tracks that I would normally use for a song, as well as audio tracks for guitar and vocals with patch points, reverb sends etc. I just need to remember to immediately resave the song (as the new title) so I don't accidentally save my Template song with a bunch of unwanted recorded tracks from a previous project on my template.
WTF, dude? I was watchin all f*king 30 minutes of grouping and changing positions and naming tracks. I wanted to see how to insert FX for groups. Not multiply tracks by sending signals to a bus for all single tracks, but just for group. You didn't show anything. And if You do something: 1) your camera makes some things invisible. I can't see what you are clicking, becouse of your camera with your person. If You use shortcut - You don't say what shortcut You are using. How I can learn anything? All that you shown is only how to name and group and moving up and down tracks. Geeez 30 minutes gone to trash!
Great info!
Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate this!
How exactly do you split in cakewalk?
S key will split highlighted tracks at the play-cursor
I'm new to Cakewalk, this was useful. Honestly, I was sceptical about Cakewalk but the more I know about it the more I'm liking it. I was even considering switching to Mac just to use Logic but so far Cakewalk seems to suit my needs perfectly and I'm really gelling with the workflow.
I see what you did there. Flippin phase marvelous!
Personally I name the folders as I create them. It beats having 8 folders all called Folder 1, folder 2, folder 3 etc.
Yep! Great organizing tool
Flippin marvelous!🤩
Many, many thanks!!!
Joki
exact tips i was looking for (editing existing "category" vst list) - thank you!
Thank you for this!!!
Awesome, thanks. I put my drums in a track folder in Sonar years ago but forgot how.
sooo, I can (rather easily) do life sessions with on-the-fly-recording like in Ableton Live or the Perfomance Panel in Mixcraft? I desperately need a replacement, because both above mentioned won´t work without latency or at all for live streams, while cakewalk works perfect...
This tutorial sucked. You mashed together two beats that didn't compliment each other and you focused on stuff that doesn't really lend itself to creating a beat. You focused on stuff like off setting pre-recorded beats. Why would you start a beat 1/8 note later when they are both meant to be played on the one beat of the measure. Create a simple decent sounding beat from start to finish next time. It's like you didn't completely understand what you were doing but acted like you did. The DAW tutorials on TH-cam are total shite. Non-musicians getting all into the technical aspects of things but outputting garbage in terms of music.
First off... I appreciate your honesty and candor. Anyone wanting to do something worth-a-shit wants to know if what they've done has hit the mark or not. I could tell you, since the posting of the video, that it was not my best work. It wasn't even my okayest work. Unfortunately, you were relegated to probably my worst video about the aspect of Cakewalk that I knew the least about (ok, that's hyperbole, I don't know ANYTHING about sysx functions.) The reason I made a vid on Matrix View is that it seemed as though it was something that Logic Pro X users found useful, and at the time I saw no one actually post anything about something Cakewalk had developed years ago. So I jumped at the chance and showed the little I know about it. Sue me, right? You're totally right. My Forte is not beat-making. I play rock music and have recorded bands for the last 20 years. My vid was available for criticism, and I appreciate it. I think your observations about my weak work are spot on. However, within a community, one should always want to contribute positively. The tone of your criticism, accurate as it might be, seems to come from a place of... frustration? You point out lots of what I could have done better (rightly), but there's something about the tone that makes me think some other intention was involved. It's not my job to show you how to make fat beats with Cakewalk. Your creativity should take what things are shown and YOU make something from the software. YOU create a simple beat from start to finish. If you've already done so with Matrix View, well then, why are you watching my video? If DAW tutorials on TH-cam are such shite, YOU come and do a better job. But now you've just shown yourself as someone who's bad natured that wants someone else to do their job for them... run-of-the-mill "creators" that want the shortcuts instead of running with the tools they have. You're not wrong that I'm shite at Matrix View. Do you feel better about yourself?
@@AudioDiscoveryVids You're right I am a little frustrated with figuring out cakewalk. Sorry for taking it out on you.
There's a Cakewalk Discord... come find us and ask some questions... maybe we can help more than the videos
Is there a way to automate tempo track
Yep! There's a tempo section in the Track View at the top left. It's expressed as an envelope, but you can add by sections that works better
@@AudioDiscoveryVids cool. Can I link it to a controller? Because I wanna make live loops and have the power to slow and speed up the tempo on the fly. 👍🏾
@@AudioDiscoveryVids and thanks
Not that I've seen before (i would have to look before I can answer definitively), but I know there are hardware samplers that do this quite easily. I know Reaper has a global tempo setting that can be manipulated in real time, but no loops...
@@AudioDiscoveryVids we should put that in a forum so they can add that for an update. 👍🏾
Awesome video on Nova. Can you please do a step by step video on making this video, since you sound almost out of the world in this video. I believe your using Nova here.
