@@pjlewisful Thank you
Love the depth in this composition; and I'm thinking it's wax medium you're using.
@@t-daze Thank you and yes you are right..:(
:)
That was quick! What kind of wax? Never heard of wax as a paint medium. Nice painting and style.
do you prefer painting on flat surface or upright on easel or were you just refering to the palette being upright and do you prefer the hard surface over stretched canvas
I virtually always work on an upright canvas (Unless doing some interesting drips). Furthermore almost always work standing up as I can evaluate progress from a distance. With that said for TH-cam I've started with an up right palette (which is usually down to my right) and sitting while working (easier to film). My surface varies from paper, wood, dibond, mylar and hard panels etc...It all depends on what I plan on doing with the work.. Hope that helps. Great to connect. Cheers
Fenomenalno 😊😊
Thank you
Very lovely.
Thank you. Brings back memories, this old work :)
Love the loose technique. You’ve inspired me to give it a try
Mission accomplished :) Thank you
Fantastic picture
@@duncanhewitt6557 Thank you for that. Great to connect.
Amazing, I love it! How did you refine the face (the video didn't show any of the process)? Did you use regular brushes or the silicone ones? Also, since you use huge amounts of paint, is there issue with reflection while you paint?
@@codingchallenges both very valid questions. Refining of the faces was silicone impasto 90% with brush refining here and there 10%. Sometimes it takes long so hard to squeeze everything in. Brush direction will dictate reflection and it can be an issue. Interestingly enough the next video will address this point directly :)...Good questions. Thank you for the kind words
this line of silicone "brushes" are called Catalyst , by Princeton brushes .. I bought a few and am learning how to play with them as I venture into some Open Acrylic works.. I'm a gouache artist and watercolorist , and am fascinated with these tools.. Blick art supply has quite a few to choose from in their stores , and online .. Thanks for this really interesting demo.. Your artwork is an inspiration, with the mark-making and the 'light of the Spirit' that shines through your paintings. I am in awe of your draftsmanship and techniques. I'm so grateful that I stumbled across your TH-cam channel. I pray that I develop a style that shines like yours. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. God Bless.
Thank you for the kind words. Developing a style is process and not so much a finality..ie it constantly evolves :)..But certainly working at it for as long as I have kind of makes your work 'recognizable'. Thank you for the support Cathy
Amazing beautiful, and so thankfull that you share 🙏🍀
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. Thankful that I have an audience :)

Do you glue the milar onto a board? If so with what is it fixed?
Hi. Thanks for commenting. Good question; Yes the Mylar should always be glued to a board. My preferred choice is a DiBond panel. I'm not sure what you mean with your second question but if you're asking about what glue then use any acid free bond. Although I have not used the super77 glue, many artists swear by it. Hope that helps. Happy new year.
Lovely work thanks. How do you paint the face without back ground in place as this is where the source from where the light comes from? I would think that it is easier to paint both together or perhaps background first in order to read the effect of light better on the subject….great work interesting brush marking 😊
Thank you. You are right; it's important to have a reference color value to gauge overall tone. For this piece golden midtone underpainting served this purpose as I knew that the background was gonna be high key anyway. Great question :) Thanks for connecting
Lovely…. Got those painting squeezes/catalysts tools that I’ve been meaning to. Thank you for showing me how to use them.
Thank you for the support. Happy new year!
I've briefly read Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting and Edgar Payne's Composition of Landscape Painting. Neither of these books have helped my tendency for painting awkward still lifes. Composing portraits or landscapes is less challenging but composition is something I definitely need to improve upon. As for sound quality, maybe it's just me but I find it a bit distracting when the music is playing while you're speaking. Music is nice during parts where there's just silent demo. Hope that's useful feedback. Wishing you and yours a most blessed and happy new year.
Thank you for the insight. Didn't have a chance to get into still life composing as video was long enough already. Still life can be varied, but I often use to use Payne's 'suspended steelyard' design or 'pyramid' One of my favorites in this genre is Emil Carlsen. Happy new year 🎉
Came across this in 2024, watched the rest in 2025. Happy New Year from New Zealand. Have subscribed because I want to see more of your exceptional art and skills.

Happy New Year from Cairns Australia. Thanks for your inspiring, informative and beautiful demos. Your work is absolutely exquisite! You are incredibly talented and your commentary is so helpful. I eagerly look forward to your future videos. I know this is on paper, but do you usually work on canvas?
Thank you for the kind compliments. This portrait was done on frosted mylar or some call it duralar and not paper. Paper generally is not recommended as a substrate for oils (there are some exceptions). I of course work on all weave of canvas. Thanks for connecting. Cheers
