Nolan North on His Time as a Soap Opera Actor
A question I asked at Nolan North's Phoenix Comicon 2016 panel. It was the final question of the panel (lucky me).
I asked how his time on a Soap Opera shaped his overall acting technique and his view of acting as a whole, as well as how it influenced his later work.
Sadly, I could not get his full response because my phone chose that moment to run out of data space. Sorry, I wish I had more, but this clip does get the gist of the segment.

If anyone wants to see a prank similar to this, a company known as Rooster Teeth did it on one of their employees as they were sponsored by Ghost Recon Wildlands when that game came out.

I think they mentioned a couple times in the first few episodes of the series that they'd tried to get him to come, but he was always just like "Nah..."
plus matt has said before that like, yeah you offer money to someone, they'll come and play, sure. but that's not what critical role is about, if they're bringing in guests, its people who are genuinely interested in playing/who played dnd before,

You get any other footage of his Q&A at Phx Comic Con 2016? Just curious, would love if you uploaded it. I was in town to attend this Con, but my phone battery died so I have no good footage to show my friends. Did take a lot of photos with my camera though.
Fine, if don't believe me, here's proof. He showed up 45 minutes late (supposed to show up at 1:30pm, but arrived closer to 2:15pm), with a BS-y excuse of he was just talking to some fans. He spoke for half as long (30 minutes instead of an hour), and caused hiccup by going over into the original time of the next program, the Roost of Avatar Aang. I did see someone really similar looking to him in the audience beforehand, but I think the square red mark (like he just tore off a bandage) with at the center teethmarks on the left side of his neck had more to do with why he was late. The first question he was asked was why he chose to do a Bostonian accent for Sam Drake in UC4 where he slipped up and said well "Nate.. sorry, Nolan I get those two mixed up," causing the audience to laugh and him to explain that it's because Nolan North is from the East Coast, specifically Massachusetts. He bent his right knee up onto the table once for some reason after that. Another question was How he felt about getting to voice Booker and Joel (two popular well-received characters) in the same year. Your question was last and afterwards he mentioned another panel he was going to be at the same day, Saturday, June 4th, later in the evening where he was going to voice a character in their joke script reading of the original Ghostbusters movie with 3 other voice actors attending the Con including Nolan North, Hynden Walch and Maurice LaMarche. Also, this lady brought a child in a stroller who was upset and cried a few times, you hear it at 2:27. Yeah, I have a really good memory for certain things.
Anime Girl Amy Hi! Sorry I didn't reply to your comment sooner. Man, you do have quite the memory! (The wait time for this panel was so outrageous. I remember talking to staff and asking if they were just gonna cancel the whole thing.) I don't have any additional footage of his panel. This is all I have. I bits of Nolan North's panel on my page, but that all I have for PHXCC 2016. Sorry to disappoint.
It's okay. Just curious. Thanks for responding. Yeah, the line was insane. I showed up 20 minutes early and barely got a seat in the back. Sitting for 1st 20 minutes was really nice (since I had been walking in a heavy layer costume for most of the day) but then got annoyed by long wait. Glad he eventually showed up though. Did you stay long after the panel ended? I thought I heard Baker mumble something strange afterwards.
I would literally never talk to Travis again. Also: Cops will lie to you. When they say "not talking doesn't work in real life" don't believe them. The only words you should say are: "I want my lawyer." No name, no information AT ALL. "I want my lawyer" should be repeated for however many minutes they try to intimidate you, period.

Are you imagining that being arrested is an ordinary experience? Tedious as visiting the doctor's office? No, bare minimum, you're scared that your life is about to fly off the rails, even as you swear innocence, and no average Joe is ever ready for that kind of pressure. In order to save yourself from tripping over your own words, or having your intent misconstrued by police, you get a lawyer and say nothing until you've been counseled by said lawyer.
Troy actually enjoyed the result and was pretty happy about it in the end. He has described the prank as "the greatest prank in history" and has said that such prank has made him happy that Travis got married before he did (since Troy has said he can't hope to match Travis in terms of doing stuff like this). The fact that they're very close friends probably made something like this easier to do since being good friends means you can more easily get away with doing...pretty wacky stuff to each other. And from what I can tell the people in the VO community can be pretty crazy in terms of what antics they pull for fun...that's kind of their thing, really.
