I’m a newer RN and I’ve been experiencing bullying from experienced LPNs it’s like there’s a jealousy there and I’m baffled because I respect ALL nurses I’m so sick of this LPN/RN competition mess

I hate to say it but it might have something to do with a female dominated environment, almost high school mean girl stuff-I'm an experienced male nurse and have seen this my whole career. If I worked with a bunch of guys there would be a confrontation about lying and running your mouth the way nurses do to each other.

I hear so many nurses dealing with bullying at work, it's basically a toxic culture that doesn't go away because even mgrs are bullies or turn a blind eye to this stuff. In fact, I notice that the medical field is full of bullies. Not just in nursing. I'm not a nurse. I'm a therapist in the hospital/clinic setting for a number of years and there's bullying from admin, mgt, etc. It's ridiculous. We all get a paycheck and it's unnecessary to put up with bullies because the medical field is already stressful enough. Glad there's more people talking about workplace bullying. Ironic part is these are people working to provide care to others and yet they do this to their colleagues.

Hey pls pls reply back.. I’m currently a physiotherapist and I’m considering taking on a role as a PSW. I wanted to ask for your advice on something. Do you think that combining my physiotherapy skills with a PSW position would allow me to earn more than the typical PSW rate, or would I end up earning the same as other PSWs? I’m trying to understand if my background in physiotherapy would be an advantage in this field, particularly in terms of terms of pay.,

My late wife as a nurse in uk was bullied ,verbally ,she walked with a limp but occupational health passed her fit to nurse after working hard for 4years to get her qualification , Staff called her peg leg ,nurse manager told her she was a problem if she had to run if there was a patient crash ,she couldn’t run but her answer was No but I can limp fast !another sister told her she would be better off if she had a wooden leg ,They were cruel and made her poorly, her consultant told her they were a disgrace to her profession ,she went to work some where else on a unit with people who had MS which was her illness ,the sister after a few years said can I ask you why you limp ,my wife was very close and told her about her illness ,her manager said “that’s why you seem to have a different relationship with patients ,my late wife said yes I know where they are I’m both their nurse but also their advocate !Bullying is disgusting it’s all about power ,!

People ask where you're from to know how to treat you. As a black American med student, when an American asks that, they want to know if I'm _their_ kind of black or an immigrant one. They, like most whites in the US and Europe, "prefer" immigrant black people over their own. I feel that's because they know how dirty they've done the black ppl in their own country and their guilty conscience subconsciously expects retribution for all their wrongs.

I don’t understand allowing people to lie on you, then apologizing for it. Girl… not in any job, at any time. I hope you grew your nursing kahonys. I’m 24 years in and I’ve never bullied but I did have a nurse try it. It didn’t work. I could care less what you say behind my back. I’m at work to work, not be your friend. That frees you to speak your mind.

I just finished respiratory therapy school and I am an older student who went back to school to learn a new profession. I have to say the preceptors I had at the hospital the ones that "eat their young" are not the older ones, but the younger ones. the ones who have only been working 5 years or less and they have this know it all attitude and some treated me like I was a child which was very insulting. I found men and older preceptors (male or female) very relaxed and at ease and didn't pick on me. They were secure with themselves and knew their job where as the younger ones were trying to prove they knew it all when in fact they didn't. Also the younger females were very clicky like it was high school all over again, gossiping behind peoples backs and I found it so unprofessional. The older preceptors didn't do that.

Maybe she was just racist and trying to get you out of the field. I’ve experienced that in college before nursing. They don’t want us there. That’s why they even hurt our grades on purpose. They don’t support us at any point in life. My biology teacher took a point off of each question off of my test because it was open ended and when i asked him to explain why my answers alll had a point taken off he said because my answers were the same as the notecards. But they were not wrong. When it was a multiple choice question test i got A’s, but he managed to be able to find a point to take off of my one open ended question 🙄I will never accept anything like that ever again and I’m glad you didn’t give up.

It won’t get better until we force it to get better, and everyone doesn’t deserve respect. People who disrespect You and mistreat you don’t deserve your respect. The name thing is done with all of our names if it’s remotely different, or if they can somehow know the person is black. At a new job they called out my name and the man said “ I hope I’m saying this right” then does the huh laugh, and says my name right. Why? Because my name isn’t difficult to pronounce. Every foreigner could phonetically say my name; no one has said it wrong yet but supposedly inclusive and superior Californian Asian man acted as if he couldn’t say it. Not to mention tried to insinuate in a smart tone that I’m dumb for asking a question for where something I needed was. This treatment isn’t acceptable. It’s not ignorance they know what they do. The prospector nurse should’ve declined service but instead she just carried on like it’s okay. If someone said they just didn’t want a woman in their home, meaning the white woman prospector nurse was told something insane such as that there would be a cultural war against it. In the current climate even ir someone said they didn’t want a male or a trans woman in their home even though men are dangerous regardless of clothing it’d be seen as sexist and hateful and the entire western world would use it as an excuse as to why men are oppressed. I’m so sorry you had to go through those things. You shouldn’t have to, this stuff takes up our mental energy and stresses us out for no good reason. It’s not fair nor is it right. And the white nurses and doctors are just as at fault because they condone and even probably believe a lot of white supremacist ideology. A person in the medical field who constantly has their ego hit and used to narcissism due to being white or due to being male, it s easiest for them to have one constant in their work and life and that’s being treated better and being placed on higher positions than blAck women solely because they are white and or male. Your experiences are abhorrent. Those white women in charge literally let you and expect you to be called a rscial slur all day at work. Something needs to be done about this entirely. Also if you do anything to a cop that is disrespectful or not “respecting their authority” they can literally kill you. The hate is also all that they are allowed to do. To me it is their fault. They live their entire lives believing that they are never wrong and above black women so they express it to their last breath. And no they do not look at us as women too. Even when I worked at retail just as a cashier one time an older tall random white man just yelled at me because of the price of some bear he was buying and the white woman defended him by saying oh he’s just mad about the blah blah and doesn’t mean it. What she means is she’d do it too. Meanwhile the black lady manager and I just looked at him as she deleted the item and he didn’t end up getting It. I was barely 18 at the time and still small and short and didn’t look my age. They never see us as anything like them or their families

Girl, this nurse who is an LVN at a hospital had it out for me. an LVN pushing 60 with grandchildren. I lost my job in October because of her lies. Toward the end, she was even more jealous because I was getting attention from a handsome doctor. Girl, she looks and sounds like a damn lunch lady yet she's shaped like a lunch lady and old enough to be this guy's number. The men I've met in the nursing field are far more likeable and friendly.

theres always one or two in every unit, and the few who choose to be their minions out of fear they will also be picked on....key is to put a poker face and mind your own business and be GOOD at your job...don't overly gloat, and secretly build yourself quietly in the background....either by obtaining more certifications, going back to school to obtain a masters/doctorates degree...you really need these useless people to keep you on your toes....you NEVER EVER want to go to a unit where you feel 100% relaxed and comfortable b/c when a crisis HITS,,,you wont be ready to fend yourself from the repercussions....always work like you did on your first day....get those SNS stimulation and norepi pumping...BE READY, keep your eyes PEELED...nobody, i mean nobody at work will have your back...you alone have your own back...

I agree, they will compromise patient safety to settle a “score”

I was an EMT, and this pissy attitude happens at the ambulance service and also with law enforcement. Both agencies HATE newbies and treat them like crap. Then, to top it off, I have brown skin. That was very offensive to small-minded country folk in the town of Warrensburg, Missouri. I'm so glad I got away from them.

True. 30 years experience and a lot of nurses have bullied me along the way or tried. Setting boundaries for those who think it is ok to gaslight, bully, prejudice, etc. I mentor those who want to learn. Keep the personal hiccups at home folks. Focus on the nursing to avoid errors and avoid killing someone. Gate keepers are real and watch out for their friends in nursing. "Nurses eat their young" means it is a hazing of the new nurse, no matter new grad or new hire with outside experience. Patients deserve great nursing care. Endure and overcome in Christ.
