Did you notice some people were standing still filming dressed in military dress uniform. What really was disturbing was the disinterest of the real police in Charlie’s accusation that the guy was impersonating a police officer. His t-shirt had CO14 on it when the real Royal Protection Group are SO14 and are part of the Met. It also had what resembled an ER police cypher. A genuine cypher is protected under Section 99(1) of the Trade Marks Act 1994 and wearing it or similar to mislead is an offence carrying a £500 fine. Reports at the time stated it was the BBC filming ‘Ripper Street. I hope they quickly dismissed this guy on the basis of Fraudulent Misrepresentation. All due respect to police who do an incredibly difficult and dangerous job, but if they are NOT doing that job, they are poorly trained, ignorant of the law and acting on their own emotional responses, then what's left to respect? If an officer breaks the law, not only are they corrupt, untrustworthy oath breakers, but every one of their colleagues who is aware of their actions and does nothing is ALSO corrupt. Because of this closing ranks, and the futility of complaints against the police, the public now see the police as one big gang. Police corruption is pervasive from top to bottom, and combined with the new recruitment and training policies, we've got a mindless authoritarian force who obey orders no matter how unreasonable or corrupt. With all their new management techniques and structural improvements, those in charge have missed a crucial aspect of their task. For all their talk of best practice and reforms, nobody says anything, EVER, about the moral obligations of police. The UK police are hand picked order followers and morally bankrupt by design. Officers are soulless automatons, obeying policy, while ignorant of the law, and their duty to uphold it no matter what their bosses tell them. Those with morals with principles they stick to are weeded out at the recruitment stage, and until that is addressed, the police will continue to be easy prey to corrupt because they are structured to be unquestioning agents of state violence. Around the world, authoritarianism and police corruption go hand in hand for this reason.
