So many people ask to see my settings, well I show them all in this video. It's a ton of work to get them all up there but I hope that it helps you! I also talk about my settings and my reasoning for them in the video. I use off camera flash in all of my photography too, using Godox and Nikon.
Do You Need An Assistant for Weddings?
มุมมอง 288ปีที่แล้ว
Hiring an assistant may seem like a no-brainer to some. Someone to get your bags, carry everything, get you a drink, wipe the sweat off your forehead? Okay, maybe not that last one but hiring an assistant cuts into your profits. So do you need an assistant? The answer really isn't that easy to answer unfortunately but check out my video and see what I think. I used my Nikon gear again for today...
The Easiest Wedding I Shot After Covid Lockdowns With Nikon
มุมมอง 292ปีที่แล้ว
Right when the lockdowns were lifted people started to get married and while lots of them were super easy because of how low-key they were, this one was by far the easiest. So much natural light made it so easy to photograph every angle and I am here for that, all of that. I use my Nikon Z6II and various lenses from Sigma and Nikon No flash was used all day long.
Nikon For Wedding Photography Over Sony, Canon and Fuji
มุมมอง 893ปีที่แล้ว
This may ruffle a few feathers but you do not need expensive $4000 or $5000 cameras for wedding photography. You do not need the best autofocus. You do want the best RAW file to give the most awesome images and yes most cameras can give you an awesome RAW file, but Nikon does it best!

Bad Lighting? No Problem at this Kim Sing Theatre Wedding.
Also what power all three flashes were on?
How do you cover guest tables with this setup? Do you just put on camera flash and do direct flash at them? I always struggle with that
Hey, I knew this video is very old but I have one question. What's the dimension and position of the flash light which is at at the backside behind all people in left side near to wall ?
That venue lighting is absolutely insane. Who thought this was a good look?! Great job working through it
I love the look in these photos.
Which profile do you use?
Hello, if there would be not a lot of light available, how would you proceed with your flash? Thank you
Beautiful content. Thank you.
Great tips but man, you spray! lol I would take 3 shots where you take 12! I got anxious!
Wow! This was excellent. I learned so much. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your work. Very much appreciated, especially for a learning photographer.
Question for you! are you using a separate trigger on each camera? Are you using a single camera and just swapping lenses ?
Love this lightset up. Now I do it always this way to. And also single focus😊
Oh that's awesome to hear! Do you have an IG account? I'd love to follow you.
Buen trabajo ! 👍
Gracias!!
Hi there, this was an extremely informative video so thanks for sharing. Quick question. You switch between stills and video almost instantly therefore I assume you're using the same exposure for both, right? So just wondering whether you deliberately try and keep your shutter to around double your video frame rate (ie. around 1/120) or you're happy to sacrifice a bit of video quality to deliver the best photos possible, such as when having to shoot at higher shutter speeds in brighter outdoor scenarios, for example?
I do tend to go over the double the frame rate shutter speed, but I find that very little video quality is sacrifice as a result. So if it’s a matter of getting it quickly or not at all, then I choose to get it quickly otherwise I do pay attention to the frame rates and the shutter speed. I’ve been doing this for years now and it’s been really successful for me, have you tried it? And thank you for watching.
loved it
Thank you so much!
👏👏
Thank you for watching, I’m really going to try to work on this channel this year
Great tips
Glad you think so! I’m really going to make an attempt to make this year be the year that I really post a whole lot of stuff.
I like the way you shoot. Great work!
Thank you so much, do you have an Instagram account that I can follow? I would love to be friends.
Great lighting my friend. This images are super beautiful. Good work!
Thanks a lot! I hope all is well.
i find all the poses are the same. Just different location
Thanks for watching.
your flash shoots like machinegun....
It’s the ad 200 and I have it at such low power that you can pretty much shoot as much as you want. Thanks for watching!
In this setting you couldn't bounce the light anyhow as you had red walls and brown wood as ceilings. Bounce flash doesn't suck. Everything has its place.
Everything does have its place. I literally just put my bags in the car after being done with the wedding in a place that was so crowded that I could not move and I could not light it the way I would light it so I had to use Bounce flash. I put an off camera light in the corner, shot light into the ceiling, and then use an onboard flash to bounce flash because it was so dark there. And you know what happened? Everything got lit up perfectly. It was all draping over the entire scenery. But I don’t like that. I think it sucks. I think that if you have more directional light that gives you some shadows, it looks so much nicer. I could’ve just used one bounds Flash, but every time you move, the flash would be different because you’re bouncing it off a different wall. It would be so inconsistent. It would drive me nuts, so yeah I think fans flash sucks but it’s necessary sometimes.
crazy as im editing photos im hearing your bts ahahahaha
Thank you for watching Christian, I am really going to make an attempt to make 2024 be the year that I really pay attention to this channel so be on the lookout for more. Thank you so much.
brooooooo Ive been seeing your videos lately your videos has helped me with lighting....Im a natural light photographer but these videos have turned me into a flash photographer....im able to shoot both environments 😅 thank you so much for your detailed videos!
Great video and awesome pictures! I respect John Branch and Taylor Jackson and i sure learn a lot from them but this is more my style, exactly how i set up my off camera lights
Thanks for watching! I totally respect them too. To have achieved what they’ve achieved is amazing. It’s from them though that I learned that being ultra successful doesn’t really rest entirely on how good you are. That sounds bad, the way I said it. Ha.
I tried this on my Z9. and there is a lag on display on the atomos screen. so I missed many shots. and I stopped doing this
Oh no really? I haven’t seen lag on the z6Ii but honestly I hardly ever look at the screen on the ninja. I only really use it as a way to record. I wish they made a small recorder like the old days. The ninja star would be perfect. You can’t even buy that anymore used anywhere.
Great video, i love the examples and your explanations.
Glad you liked it! It means a lot to me that you’re watching.
Amazing...I'm just wowed at how you got these shots with all those leds and colors all over the place. (That almost always causes color cast on all the pictures) Where did you place your flashes? Were you using all 3 AD200's ?
This was the most difficult spot that I had been to in a while, but only because they refuse to turn their lights white. Most places will accommodate you and do that and then only turn the lights all crazy during the reception portion of it. This place won’t even listen to me and there was that crazy lighting all throughout the ceremony and everything else.
next time do a drawing of where u have ur lights positioned. are they bouncing off the ceilling? or bouncing off the walls???
That’s a great idea. I’ll be sure to do Include that actually. Thanks for watching!
@@LunaBellaPhotos thanks for listening 😎😎
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 😊 thank so much for watching
Great video 👍 I always have to use flash and yes 🙌 don’t know how natural light photographers shoot without flash 😮their iso must be 10k plus
Right! I was shooting video once and this photograph asked to use my video light because it looked nicer. I asked her, why do you think it looks nicer and It turns out her on board flash was on Ttl and her exposure were all over the place. I really wanted to ask her how much she charged, haha.
@@LunaBellaPhotos ha ha yes I’ve seen photographers who charge way more than me and they’re camera settings are all over the place and they’re photos are rubbish and I don’t know how they get booked
The 2nd light looks good, gives a nice rim light to the shots. I would have added a cto gel in this venue to tone down that orange lighting but they look good
Thanks so much for watching. Unless I totally forgot for this wedding, I did gel the lights. I Own the Magmod gels and it’s so easy to slap them on the lights. The orange warmth is such that I’m Comfortable with because it’s me trying to preserve the aesthetic of the room. It’s really really warm in there but I didn’t want it to look that warm in photos.
@@LunaBellaPhotos Oh yeah, I can tell when I compare the videos to the photos.
Flash is always the trickiest part of learning professional photography. This video was illuminating. No pun intended.
New video 🎉
You’re first! I’m going to try and post twice a week. Maybe even more. Thanks for watching!!!
@@LunaBellaPhotosSince I’ve been watching your videos , I have confident to try off camera flash at the wedding which will happen in Seventh place. Thank you
Thank you for taking the time to explain everything. Was very helpful!
Oh, you’re so welcome and thank you for the feedback because now I know that I should spend more time on each video to fully explain everything that I’m doing. I was really doing them really fast before because I had such a busy wedding season. I had 16 weddings in October alone so I barely had any time but now it’s slowing down so I am going to take my time with these videos.
Where on your body do you have your GoPro?
It’s on my chest but more towards the left. On my camera strap. I used to have it on my hot shoe but I didn’t really like it there. New weddings though starting this Saturday I’ll have the go pro and the ninja atomos records the evf of one of my cameras. Thanks for watching b
@@LunaBellaPhotos I appreciate your response. I like the position of your GoPro than those who have it on hotshoe. Which version of GoPro?
Thanks for the tutorial, I actually photograph a lot at the same location in San Pedro which made your video more interesting. It isn’t very often I get to analyze another artist’s work. Much appreciated.. Miguel
Hi! Oh cool. I want to see your work. Are good on IG!?
@@LunaBellaPhotos unfortunately most of my fulfillment is album work I keep a a few stills on hand to showcase my work for potential clients. I’ll DM you a few images. Also I’m new to the mirrorless world and yet to master the off camera GoDox
@@miguelelliot8921yeah message me. I’d love to keep in contact.
Hello, great video! Do u use gels in your flashes?
Yes I do! I have gels from Magmod and they are awesome.
@@LunaBellaPhotos I guess u r using the orange ones? Do u always proceed like this indoors?
Not always. Only when the ambient light is a little warm which in this case it wasn’t super warm but I believe I used a 1/4 cto gel for this venue.
@@LunaBellaPhotos Thank you!
The setting just help us to also visualize the situation for the photo. Thank you for taking the time to put more information in your videos. 😊😊I am learning flash a bit later because I never liked it before.
I’m so glad it was helpful. I actually I’m going to do videos where you can actually see the evf but I won’t be able to record that way until this Saturday and I already have about 25 weddings recorded on a GoPro. Flash is a little difficult. I actually have been taking a student with me to the past eight weddings and he has now I would say fully picked it up. Thank you so much for watching!
Great video! I have one question please. When shooting bridal entrance, you use AFC with a wide rectangular focus area. What's the hit rate of focusing exactly on the face? Thanks!
I would say that the hit rate is high. Yes, you might get some misses but honestly within that little rectangle you will not get that many misses and so I find it hard for somebody to switch over to Sony or canon just because they think they have better auto focus. Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for explaination! So you use AFC with WIDE rectangular focus area and put the rectangular on the face, is that right?
Only when the subject is moving really fast like on the dance floor or when the subject is moving towards me. Otherwise I’ll use the single point and recompose method. I tell you, using this the single point method makes it so I hardly ever miss focus.
Thank you for sharing, very helpful for new people like me....what are your thoughts of using a flash bracket? Or 3 point flash?....
I actually did use three lights here but I hardly spoke about them because they didn’t really add anything to the photo. These days I only use one off-camera flash or a little bit of bounce flash, but really 95% of the time I only use off camera flash. I have never used a bracket and probably never will. I just don’t think it’s necessary, because honestly off-camera flash to me is the best way to go in nearly every situation. I’m going to have more videos with it even more explanation. This year has been ridiculously busy and I just couldn’t keep up with making TH-cam videos, but next year should be better. Thanks for watching!
@@LunaBellaPhotos thank you for taking the time to respond, the reason i asked is becuase i do private events and ive seen guys use off camera flash plus flash bracket or even constant like too
@@xosemusic you can for sure try it because that is an option but I think the brackets are more old school. I know a ton of photographers used to use them 10 years ago but I really think if you use off camera flash and bounce flash you’ll get better results. What’s your IG? I would love to follow you.
@@LunaBellaPhotos @josesosa.raw ...im pretty new
Excellent job wait to go with the flow, when you sign a couple up for a gig do you also offer them prints maybe should talk about it in one of your videos about what you offer.
I promised myself that next year I will not take on 57 weddings again like 2023 or 62 weddings like in 2022 so I plan to have more time to dedicate to TH-cam. If I can manage to not overbook myself I will put so much effort in showing everything. Everything I offer, how I work out schedules, how I do everything. Thanks so much for watching!!!
🔥🔥
Thanks!!
Good insight. Pretty much how we do it. Although not so wide open.
Oh I want to see how you do it. Do you record your weddings too? I would watch them all.
I do not record our shoots. I may start doing it in 2024 ( "Full on" enough shooting stills and a highlight Vid Ha ha) @@LunaBellaPhotos
Awesome work bro! 🔥
Thanks 🔥
Great job. Your photos are always so vibrant and colorful. I got a lot from seeing your settings.
Thank you very much! I actually have a Ninja V and I am going to get recordings right from my EVF for future weddings so you can see everything. Bad thing is, I already have about 20 weddings recorded on a go pro before I can get to the new weddings. Thanks for watching!
Great work dude 👌 some djs can be arse holes too
Yeah man, most of the time they are cool to work with but I hate it when they have those obnoxious lights and when they don’t keep to the schedule.
@@LunaBellaPhotos yes I have problems too when them bloody lights shine on peoples faces in photos
Absolute love your work mate!
Thank you so much!! How’s life these days. I hope really well.
Luna, I understand where you are going with this video. Thanks for the effort. I'm not a hater, nor a troll, and I am a Nikon shooter. I am going to relate a short story from another artistic genre to make a brief point. Suffice it to say that may dancers (both pro and amateur) want a judge to tell them what they can do to improve, and why they didn't place higher. So a system was devised to grade routines beginning with basics (timing, connection, lead-follow, footwork) to more sophisticated issues (pattern variation, pattern difficulty) and lastly, esthetics. Point is, the dancers were then given more valuable feedback instead of "I just liked their dance better". So, it would have taken more time to put such a video together, and you already mentioned you don't like editing, but explaining (and showing examples) of the difference in "color science" of the different brands would have been helpful - to a point. Now, if I'm correct in the next statement (because I haven't owned all brands and cameras), then this is also an issue. Nikon's color science from model to model changes a bit. The D700 was known for it's skin tones - which were certainly different than the warmer look of the competitor at the time, the Canon 5D classic. Many have said the skin tones of the Z9 are better yet - depending on what look you're going for - and the sensor is made by Sony. So with brand to brand variation - and camera to camera within brand variation - it would be tough to give general advice except to say "this is what I find better with Nikon than other brands files" - i.e. how far they can be pushed in post - but you do not edit much. At the beginning of the video, rather than suggest Sony colors 'suck', you could have said which camera you are referencing that comment to, and what you specifically found unappealing. Point is, there is no 'real' information to take away here except your personal taste - for somewhat 'true' colors compared to Canon, Sony, and Fujifilm - which cameras? Last thing on this subject: The lens you use will also determine the colors and quality of light you see in your images (i.e. acutance and resolution). Hope you keep up the videos, just suggesting if your intent is on helping others, perhaps develop a scheme of talking points and examples. Best wishes.
Hi! This is probably the best comment I’ve ever gotten and I appreciate it. I really should make it clear though that all of what i say is only my opinion. Giving facts and examples isn’t really what I do right now. I’m so busy with Weddings. I have 57 weddings in 2020 so I’m always editing or taking pictures and then I take some time to make these really quick videos of me photographing a wedding. I put it together real quick, and just talk about what’s on my mind or what I want to make the topic of the video but always with behind the scenes footage of some thing. Next year I’m not going to be as busy because I promised myself that I would not book as many weddings, so I really want to do more videos like the ones that you’re talking about. Hopefully that can happen and thank you for watching so much.
@@LunaBellaPhotos Yes, I figured as much (that you are very busy as a working photographer (OMG - 57 weddings), and that much was your thoughts at the moment. I did get that - and the only reason I left the comment is I cared enough to watch it all the way through. Again, those were my thoughts at the moment - from having experience with other art forms. Just something to think about. Appreciate the effort, brother. Keep up a healthy workload and some time for yourself!
