    Here is the deal. The % goes from 1-100. There is no zero result. the Single digit die indicates what number is in the 1's place. The double digit die indicates what number is in the 10's place. If they both come up 0, then the only number with a zero in the 10's and 1's places is 100. If you wanted a 10 result, then there needs to be a 1 in the 10's place. this is a 100.

      Oh yes I have! I have been following it for a while now and bought into the Alpha early. I actually recorded a video on my homebrew rules I use in my games, many of which came from Alkander's Almanac. I just need to edit it and release it. But I do want to cover DC20. Totally get it. For me, I love the 5e system but don't want to give WoTC money so this is the perfect compromise. I get to play an improved version of 5e and not give WoTC money! Now if you are looking for something different but not too far removed, can I suggest DC20? I am very excited about this system.

    • @thejunecooperative
      @thejunecooperative 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Are you trying to say that this gives money to WotC? Because it uses the Creative Commons SRD content, it doesn't financially benefit WotC in any direct way. The only issue would be keeping players in the ecosystem, but I think the only competitor that had a chance of taking a large number of 5e players out is Pathfinder 2e

      @@thejunecooperative I am saying this is a way to enjoy 5e WITHOUT giving WOTC money. Its a great system that you can use your existing 5e material with be it 1st party or 3rd party and in my opinion, is a better evolution of 5e than the 2024 rules WOTC is working on.

    In the D&D UA you get two uses Channel Divinity at 2nd level, three at 6th level, and then four at 18th level. They now have two options for it at level 2. I think every class that has a Channel Divinity feature will get two options for it in their base class. If ToV is going to add base class options like additional Heroic and Epic Boons, I could see them adding additional things to do with your Channel Divinity in your base class.

I got my books and sleeve - but the GM Screen... the BEST GM Screen out in my opinion... doesn't fit in the sleeve for some dang reason. Also, kinda wish we had more of a Ranger and Monk base class change but clearly they are addressing that through the SubClasses.

      Demiplane is a platform made by the same people who created DnDBeyond before WoTC bought it. They cover multiple systems including TOV on there. So if your player like DNDBeyond, they will like Demiplane and they can use it for more than just 5e.

      That's because most players aren't philosophically principled and will support woke/collectivist nonsense for pragmatic convenience (due to intellectual laziness). The city of Moonrise is built around a perfect isosceles triangle formed by twenty-eight liths. The precise purpose and origin of the standing stones has long been forgotten, but all agree that the triangle points exactly at the point where the moon touches the horizon as it sets on the winter solstice. The moon druids who worship at the site believe it is a message passed from Mother Earth to Mother Moon to guide her on her way. Those skeptical of the druids associate the site with were-creatures. An earthquake that lives on in the memories of only the oldest humans living in Moonrise leveled every building over two stories tall creating a plateau as the standing stones and their immediate vicinity rose 30 feet into the air. The arch-druid Aneth declared that Mother Earth had punished the city for obstructing Mother Moon’s view of her message. Since that day construction of buildings over two stories tall has been forbidden. Jaccan, Aneth’s successor, visits the stones on the nights of the full moon to perform rites known only to the druids. No paths exist to the summit as the regent of the city forbids all travel there lest the city once again suffer the retribution of the earth, the moon, or the druids. Of late swarms of albino rats have run freely through the city retreating to the plateau under cover of night to tell Jaccan of the unsavory business below. The young arch-druid contemplates taking matters into their own hands before the Mothers are stirred to action. Time grows short.

    I don't understand how anyone could read this book and find it useful. Are you quite sure you actually read it? You say at the start that it's not a 5e book. It is a 5e book. All the NPCs and player options are for 5e. You even show a 5e Druid subclass in this video. I suppose you could argue a lot of it is system agnostic in the sense that it contains no concrete information, so isn't tied to 5e. The random tables are very generic lists of businesses, government types, districts etc. The art is just OK. It's arguable that some of the subclass options are flavourful but they certainly none have been playtested or given much mechanical thought. The NPCs are fine. Most of the text is stuff like: "The city watch serves as the city’s police force, responsible for maintaining law and order and keeping its inhabitants as safe as possible. They patrol the city streets, dealing with wrongdoers, breaking up arguments, reuniting lost children with their parents, giving directions to visitors, and so on." It goes on for another 3 pages like this and the only things you could put in a game are 3 generic Guard NPC descriptions and a d20 table of plot hook gems like 'you find a dead body'- that's literally the whole hook. Every single section is mostly the same sort of dull, empty filler.

      If this book is not for you, I'd suggest looking at Spectacular Settlements from Nord. It is a straight engine for building towns, cities, and other populated locations. • @Zr0din
    @Zr0din 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hmmm. So I have to be critical on this one. I was kind of... Ok, let's start with the good... 1. the back stories for each of these NPCs are excellent. They make total sense. I could swear that I met some of these people when I was serving in the army. Some of these characters are very real, even the evil ones. The idea of INSPIRATION is very true. It makes role playing these types of characters easier even if you don't have a military background. You can still give a good performance. 2. BUT - it is not as good as Revenge of the Horde. There are several reasons why. The biggest reason I was upset was I wanted to use some of these characters for a convention and kinda role playing class. The plant was to have these as pre-generated characters at level 8. Only one problem... No Matter what is in their occupation, No matter what the backstory says, the stat blocks at the different levels are all very similar. For instance ALL the Fighters are Champion Fighters. First set of Barbarians are Berzerker Barbarians and after you realize this, you stop looking. No one wants to play as a Champion Fighter. Why no Battlemasters? Then you realize they must have had to restrict themselves to using the SRD Classes and Subclasses. At that point you kinda want to throw the book away. You skip forward and you find a Rogue that has an Arcane Trickster Subclass - NOT on the SRD. You do eventually find a Eldritch Knight and a BattleMaster in the book about one third of the way in. 3. If you get a chance to make more of these books, please set up the table of contents as a Name/Species/Class/Subclass. The rest of the organization by alignment is good. Stop making a book to read. I want to buy a tool to use.

Get the PDF if you absolutely have to have it and save the shelf space for any number of other monster books.

      To be fair, all of the issues you've listed are also present in the base Tome of Horrors. A lot of art is awkward or has an "amautorish" feel to it (which, as someone who consumes a lot of 3rd party material for 3.X, Pathfinder and 5E, also turns me off) and is often straight up too small, the font chosen for the titles is awful, and the chromatic choice makes a lot of the entries feel like stand-alone images in an empty void of text and blankness (especially with a lot of the art being actually quite small). I can't at all compare it to products such as the ones from Kobold Press, the Scarred Lands line, Nord Games, or even just Legendary Games.

    Are you going to get a chance to review Warlock Grimoire IV and Deep Magic II?

      Yep! I helped work on the Deep Magic 2 Foundry conversion and a spell I wrote is in it as well! I plan to review both.

    There are so many campaign builder resources out there. Which are your essential books that every gm should have in their toolbox?

    • @GMToolbox
      @GMToolbox 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow! Thats a loaded question. It really depends on what specifically I am doing. If we are talking about purely world building I would say this book, plus Nord's Spectacular Settlements, maybe there Dangerous Destinations as well, then the 4 Loresmyth Remarkable books. I may tack on Nord's Ultimate Guide to Crafting book as it builds on guilds quite a bit. After that its just resources that work for your world. I do have the Tome of Adventure Design but to be honest I haven't looked through it much yet. The Lazy DM stuff is really great too but thats more for session prep.

    is this how you orginized RotD?

    • @GMToolbox
      @GMToolbox 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      RoTD is a published book. I organized it as close to the book as I could to have it make sense in a VTT. But in my own Campaign I have been slowly adding resources from Kobold Press's Midgard as well as books from other publishers as well as my homebrew rules, spells, items, and other things. As I do so I create links and share access to certain things for my players. Over time it has evolved into a great resource and I am able to use Foundry to Package the parts that I want to use in other worlds and then install those right into those worlds. It is really great.

    Problems with the first Tome of Horrors book: Monster Profiles: it boasts 325 monster profiles. 11 of these are "Mouse Dragons", around 10 Giant beetles, 5-6 Orbs of element, and each Dragon family takes 4 monsters each, so there are closed to 275 monsters, which is still great but the fillers pull down the quality of monsters you can find. Art Work: Some artwork is questionablee.g. Goblins 180-184 look really nice. Giant fly 150 is a enlarged picture of a fl and is blurry. Hell Moth page 196 isn't great but Hellbender 197 (same artist) looks lovely. Other monsters are almost anime drawings too. Info and Lore for Profiles. Some of the monsters, like the Dungeon Dragon, have brilliant backgrounds and interesting ideas to add to your table. Some of them barely give you a discription or how they live/work. Others give questionable tactics like the Advanced Demilich page 76 advising on alternating between its "Trap the Soul" ability which doesn't exist, and a banshee wail that is a Recharge 6 which is just bad advice. I'll be checking reviews of the 2020 version first before buying as the current ToH book has some flaws

    Agreed. This book looks absolutely fantastic. So beautiful. Am finally diving into the book to learn this beast, but thought I'd come here first for any tips on DMing.

    • @GMToolbox
      @GMToolbox 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its a beast to DM and its a sandbox so there is so much that can happen. One big thing I would says is play up the relationships in House Gullion. The family members each have their own motivations and desires and you can use that. There is a lot happening in that house and the city itself. Also the campaign is filled with rich NPCs. Take advantage and let your players meet them and interact.
