Fossil Hunting at Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast - Autumn 2021 - Episode 4
มุมมอง 1.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Fossil Hunting at Lyme Regis this Autumn has been rather difficult due to the amount of sand covering the Blue Lias mud on the beach. A few weeks ago the slips moved forwards due to the heavy rain we had, and now most of this is buried as well, making life really difficult. I hope things improve in the Winter months. Hope you enjoy the video Connie Wyatt
Environmental issue - Old town tip site brings down cliff - Pre November 2021 Landslip
มุมมอง 6042 ปีที่แล้ว
Modern and historic rubbish can be found scattered across the cliff and beach at Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast, a site of scientific interest. Car axels, engines, gear boxes and water tanks are frequently found on the beach together with other heavy metal and objects. The town tip site was originally dumped at the top of the cliff, the size and weight of the site detrimentally contributed to...

Huge Landslip at Black Ven, Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast. Occurred 11 November 2021. Likely cause is the tip waste, forcing the cliff down, dumped from Edwardian period up to the 1980s ... [Previous day, when it *started* to fall in the afternoon]
Fossil Hunting During The Summer Holidays - Lyme Regis, Jurassic Coast
มุมมอง 2.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
During the Summer months, I rarely go fossil hunting as I like to leave it to the visitors. I use this time to prep the fossils that I find in the winter months. I did pop down a few times to see if I could find fossils to show the visitors. Hope you enjoy this video! Connie Wyatt

      Hi - sorry for the delay in responding. Try eBay. Most of my hammers are picked up from car boots and usually need a lot of tlc to bring them back to good use. Try searching for mining hammer. Good luck

    Hi... Silly question but what are the nodules you mention? Where in the cliffs do they come from?

    • @LymeRegisFossilDepot
      @LymeRegisFossilDepot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the nodules are often the correct stones that contain fossils, mainly Ammonites. Different nodules can contain different species of Ammonites and the nodules come from the different layers in the cliffs. Hope this helps! 😊

    I just discovered your channel and I'm absolutely very much enjoying it! Although everytime I hear you say "Crinoid" or just see you find a whole plate in this video and the other video's, I am the most jealous person in the world. I've only found a tiny plate (and a few stems of course) ever. You are excellent at fossiling! Keep up the good work! 👏

      The sea will wash it out gradually but there will be people recklessly climbing up which will make it difficult for people on the beach. But should be good if people treat it with respect.

    Another great video, Connie. Thanks so much. And how nice to see Chris Andrew again. I did a couple of fossil walks with him and Paddy Howe several years ago and spent a bit of time in Paddy's dungeon (fossil shop) with Chris giving me some tips on how to prep an ammonite with an air scribe. Their influence still spurs me on during my twice-a-year visits down that way.

  • @neiljenkins2011
    @neiljenkins2011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, Connie. That was brilliant! Enlightening, yet at the same time ... annoying! The hours I've spent scouring the beach east of Lyme Regis and that east of Charmouth and, at best, come away with some tiny iron pyrite ammonites and fragments. My last trip to Charmouth (weekend before last) produced no finds of note. Your video is inspiring because it's a reminder to me that there's plenty to find if I'm patient, observant and learn what to look for. My dream is to find a big iron pyrite ammonite like the one you found at 07:31, and a few bone fragments wouldn't go amiss either! I must try harder next time. Thank you!! :-)

      Thank you for your lovely message, indeed the fossils are there waiting to be found, sometimes just a mm under the Lias mud, or just about to be carried onto the beach by the next big wave. Perseverance is key. Good luck on your next fossil hunt!
