Welcome to MountainsRiverSea! My name is Jamie and I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of South Carolina.

I want to share and connect with others, help others get outside and discover amazing places in the great outdoors, and celebrate the beauty of the natural world. I provide videos of gear and product reviews, trail reviews, travel info, mistakes I’ve made, things I’ve learned and any how-to videos I can think of that might be useful or helpful.
Come with me as we explore and enjoy mother nature in the Mountains, River, and Sea. Gotta get outside rain or shine!

Visiting Pretty Place SC Mountain Sunrise 4k Scenic Video / Pretty Place Re-Opens Post Helene:
Come along on a beautiful morning to watch a winter sunrise at the amazing Symmes Chapel also known as Pretty Place at YMCA Camp Greenville in Cleveland South Carolina in Northern Greenville County. Pretty Place sustained significant wind and rain damage from Hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024 and was closed for several months for repairs. We were lucky enough to go the very first day they reopened to the public, and we captured some amazing footage of a beautiful January sunrise at this very special place in upstate South Carolina.

I LOVE my Knee Rover scooter!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you so very much for sharing this . I’m not sure how your channel popped up and I’m so thankful that I found you . I love the outdoors. I’ve never tried kayaking though, however I would like to . anyway I believe that this Harris family is my Harris family. I’ve been doing some genealogy research and was told by another family member about this island and that this was our people. it has been a dream of mine to be able to visit there someday and I just have to tell you thank you so much for a very wonderful and pleasant video. I really enjoy your details and especially that you included the comments of being respectful… you know that just means so much. Your channel is so delightful and informative.
@@BlueMoonShelly you are so welcome! Really appreciate your comments. Glad you enjoyed the video. That is so neat that this could be your ancestors on Cemetery Island. I hope you get to visit it one day! It is a pretty easy day paddle or if you know anyone with a boat on Lake Hartwell have them take you by there. And I hope you do try kayaking someday! look on Facebook marketplace you could probably find a used kayak at a decent price. There are also a lot of kayaking Facebook groups you could join that might be more beginner friendly as well

I was there in October. It is an amazing waterfall and easily accessible.
@@vickitricki56 yes it’s such a cool stop right off the highway. How was it in October, any damage from Helene? I haven’t been back up there since the hurricane hit here

I've never kayaked a kayak that doesn't "drift" lol I guess I don't know what I'm missing if there are kayaks that don't go to one side when you stop paddlin'.
@@ChristelVinot I know what you mean lol but some kayaks are worse than others with this… most sea kayaks / touring kayaks don’t veer like that but most rec kayaks probably do
Those harmonies…I’m 77 and they still give me goosebumps!
Thanks for showing the hull.
I just had surgery and am non weight bearing for 8 weeks. Thanks for giving me hope of being more mobile once I get my stiches out and get my new cast. Great video.
@@LaurainOR thanks so much and so sorry you’re going through this right now! Hang in there and best wishes on your recovery ❤️🙏
Such a beautiful paddle! I am watching bc researching the aspire 105 for my first kayak. I don’t know if you will see this question but can you tell me if you had the skeg down at the end when the waves and wind picked up? It’s been my issue w tracking on other rec kayaks that I have been trying out and this is one of the reasons why I am interested in the aspire. Thx.
@@anninwhack1998 I can’t remember but I’m pretty sure I had it down! Since I knew I was doing a pretty long straight paddle I probably had it deployed but to tell you the truth this kayak tracks pretty well even without the skeg but tracks great with it!

I recognize many of the places you showed. I'm just off of Bates Crossing near 25 and we lost 7 very large hardwood trees on this property alone. One of them crushed the back of the camper I live in. 10 days without grid power and 2 days without cell service plus 3 more for 911 calls only. Thankful it wasn't worse for us but we're on a hill so no flooding, but you could see what had happened on the back roads to Marietta today as well as elsewhere.
@@P_RO_ omg I’m so sorry about your camper! Glad you are ok 🙏
Glad you guys are ok. Thanks for your efforts, neighbor. We are between TR and Marietta…..nice to finally have power! Thanks Duke! Still have yet to see a Spectrum truck….

@@tpaw6908 thank you so much! Same to you! 🙏
It will take months to clean up and even longer to rebuild. We lived through a couple of hurricanes during Isabel and Irene. Definitely not as devastating as Helene, but probably just as many trees and power lines were down. Because we live about an hour from VA beach, we have coastal flood warnings every time a major storm front comes through. We were supposed to boil water for several weeks after storms with power outages. Hopefully people understand that water is contaminated until government officials decide that it's safe. We had some detours due to culvert collapses, but the engineers rebuilt the culverts bigger and better. Some even have storm drain systems added with their own retaining ponds. We're near the Blackwater River and it floods like crazy during heavy storms. Depending on how long the bridge is out, they may open one lane of traffic. It looks like there needs to be concrete reinforcement to shore up the missing soil. I'm not as familiar with Greenville Co. I have relatives in Landrum and Pelion, SC. I'm more familiar with the Saluda River in Columbia, SC. Hopefully you'll get newer better designed bridges in due time.
@@coachwendy5618 thank you for your input and your experience!

Hi, its 12:28 am in Tx , You did good documenting those bridges, notice how the pickens side as you called it and the second bridge both had that red dirt, and the other sides seem to be rock or a different dirt. As im writing this im watching the two trees down, look at the roots one is red dirt and the ither is rick all around the roots. The undercut of the bridges is concerning, what we can’t see is what undercut or damages have happened to the footings under the water.
@@akbychoice definitely, and I hadn’t even thought about the underwater footings. We have a friend that lives right next to Keeler Bridge on N Saluda river and she said she heard a huge log smack the bridge and it was so loud she heard it from inside her house
@@MountainsRiverSea I saw a video of waters wrap a conex container around a pole, it’s a powerful force.
@@akbychoice I saw that video too, that was just almost unbelievable and very eye-opening to the power and force of water

Been on many of the roads you showed. We are about 20-25 miles east. Our neighbors house had a tree fall into it, they are ok. Tree has been removed. I haven’t driven extensively since the storm. Your area definitely has more trees down. I wonder if Campbell’s Covered Bridge is still intact, or Poinsett Bridge.
@@akbychoice glad your neighbors are ok but sorry to hear about their house. I was wondering about those bridges as well but I haven’t been over on that side of Highway 25 yet. Maybe I can go check it out next week if roads are all cleared over there

9 years of hard fishing use on my Vapor 10. Everything from a creek you could jump across to a large tributary of the Mississippi, farm ponds to large whitecapped lakes. Only thing I've done to kayak is add the backrest pad cushion from the angler model. Bottom is scratched pretty good from some rocky rivers- best $399 I ever spent!
@@teamflanneloutdoors5631 that’s awesome! Sounds like you’ve gotten some good use out of your vapor 10! Yeah that was the only other thing I noticed, I thought the seat could’ve been a little more comfortable
@@MountainsRiverSea I posted a link to oak orchard canoe below. Thinking I might upgrade my seat this winter and get some more enjoyment from it as the Vapor12 I’d like to have is so much more expensive these days.
This is an 18 minute video that tells you to use a car mat to slide the kayak on so it doesn't scratch the car. Most of the first 11 minutes are pretty common sense stuff so you may want to skip to the 11 min mark. It seems this is a good idea if you have a low profile SUV and are able to support the entire weight of the kayak at least 3 separate times. If you have a higher profile vehicle like a Honda Pilot this method is much more daunting. If the kayak were to slip during any of this process it could present a very difficult situation. That is what most lift systems are designed to address. However it is a very simple method if you can make it work for you.
where is the rope swing located at on the lake?
@@JonathanPhillips-g3w on Lake Chatuge it was Gibby Island just across from Clay County Campground (very near the lake dam)
@@JonathanPhillips-g3w on Fontana Lake we paddled from the gravel ramp that’s just past the campground at Tsali, and I think it was the first island we came to
Have you tried swamping it without floatation? I've heard the foam core is enough to keep from needing inflatables.
@@humbdedumb6009 yes we unfortunately swamped it / completely capsized it this past spring in moving river water (strainer flipped my husband) and it floated upside down just at the water surface without any floatation bags.

Looks like a blast! Where do you put in at? Ive been looking at a saluda river trip.
@@robertjames5327 we live near Keeler Bridge in Marietta so we had put in just below there, but N Saluda River is “skinny water” paddling until we join the main Saluda River so you could just put in at Hunt’s Bridge Rd for better water and an easier access point. Could take out at Saluda Landing (Saluda lake) or call Dacusville Outdoors he runs a shuttle up to Hunts Bridge and then you can take out at his place just past 183 Hwy (Farrs Bridge)

@@ervinslens thank you so much! That really means a lot to me coming from you and your amazing channel! 😊
Hello, I wasn’t sure about catch mode and durability, since it’s not rotomolded. Did the skeg work well and do you think a large dog(Lab) would fit in front of you? How durable is it after being on the river. I was surprised tracking was good as a lot of people didn’t like it. Sure it depends on your paddle skills. Mainly concerned about dog. Thanks for great video Scott 5:40 5:43
@@MAGAScott it held up fine on the river but yeah it’s not really made for tons of whitewater. I think a large dog would fit fine in front of you and you could even remove the front cargo net for more room if needed.
