Great Planes Fokker Dr1 60 size RC - The Fokker Scourge
This WWI beauty has an electric setup. Eflite 60 motor. 6 cell 5000 mah lipo and 15x8 wood prop. John, the builder and pilot highly recommends installing wooden skids on the bottom edge of the lower wing to prevent scratching on landings.

RC Phoenix Spitfire maiden flight with .52 four stroke.
มุมมอง 23K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Model: British Supermarine Spitfire by Phoenix Models Magnum .52 four stroke with 12x6 prop The four stroke sounds great on this bird but you already knew that about warbirds in general. Surprisingly, the engine pulls it nicely. But it's not a screamer. The larger prop makes landing very manageable. The Spitfire is known for tip stalling.

    I recently got a magnum 52 and I was wondering if it had enough power for something like that but obviously it has plenty for a 40 size RC plane! Thanks

      I think you'll find a 52 magnum 4 stroke works fine. It won't be a screamer, but it's enough power to really enjoy the airplane. I think you'll find that the 4 stroke you could swing a bigger prop and will make the airplane perform well on climb outs and maneuvers.

      I'm sorry I don't have plans for the d r 1 1 60 size. I'm afraid a fourstroke would be a little bit too small. I'm sure it will fly but it will be slow and you won't be able to do much aerobatics

    I saw on one of the flying fields a camera guy had sights that are mounted where usually the flash is hooked up. So whenever he loses the plane he looks through the sights, w a on off red dot. ***the rudder too sensitive. Good job on the build.

    In mine, I have an AXI 4130/20, 70amp esc, 5500 6S lipo, 18x10 Prop. Flies extremely well. Been flying it since 2002. Originally used to fly it with nicads... ugh. Pulls 28 amps at WOT. Very easy, and a blast to fly. You just have to realize that it's a very draggy plane, and does not have the sharpest reflexes; you just have to stay ahead of it. 10 lb flying weight. Have ailerons set up as flaperons to slow it for landings; as if it needs to be slowed down. ; ) Mix rudder to ailerons for coordinated turns.

    • @gmccord1970
      @gmccord1970 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use servos from Hobbypartz.com. They have some excellent reliable servos at a fraction of the cost of other servos. But you don't need fancy high torque servos. Just some standard digital servos will do just fine.

    • @gmccord1970

      hey there the Magnum 52 four stroke is a good engine for this claim it's easy to turn and it's very reliable in my opinion I've not had it had any problems with it. no I won't be a screamer in the Spitfire or I should say your Corsair but it'll truck well in the sky and will be very manageable on Landing

    This is a wonderful size for a WWI fighter. I wish that there were a good ARF being put out for it now. Despite some people's liking of electric power, this needs a .90 4-stroke to sound like an aircraft. And I prefer cloth covering, sealed.

  • @danpos1971
    @danpos1971 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    How did the Spitfire balance with the .52? Did you add any ballast weight?I'm thinking about putting an ASP.61 in one of these.

    • @gmccord1970
      @gmccord1970 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dan P The plane balanced very well with the .52. The only thing I did was move the battery pack as far forward as possible as I can remember. A .61 four stroke should work well too. If the .61 is a two stroke, that will be too much in both power and weight.

    • @danpos1971
      @danpos1971 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +380PPK Thank you. I should have been clear. It was a 2 stroke I was asking about. However I also have a Saito 56 which should work well in this plane from what you have said. Thank you.

    I had one of these years back when it was new to the market. I remember when I told several people at the flying field that I was going to get one, without personal experience, most scoffed and said they where terribly difficult planes to deal with. I bought one anyways and fitted mine with a saito .82 They couldn't have been more wrong about this plane and everyone loved it! I can honestly say in my 21 years of RC, it was the most impressive, fun and one of the easiest flying planes I ever owned. Ground maneuvering was a little tricky at first, but that wasn't hard to adapt to either. Had a Futaba 9C with 25% rudder/aileron mix and flew it at 3 quarters throttle most of the time. Unfortunately I had a loose aileron servo wire that caused a cart wheel on take off one day, destroying two of the wings so I sold it for parts. I regret not fixing the plane to this day. Thanks for the video, brought back great memories!

      You are very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it. There is something very cool about the Dr1 that everyone can enjoy from 3D pilots to warbird enthusiasts. On the one hand, it was a floater that anyone with reasonable stick time could fly and on the other hand, it acted sort of 3Dish in the air because it was so acrobatic - especially with the climb rate and looping. There was nothing like the Dr1.

  • @gmccord1970
    @gmccord1970 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes Miracle, I can appreciate the frustration. Great Planes had the .60 size ARF as in this video but it was discontinued. Hobbyking as far as I know only offers a foamy park flyer. I've looked long and hard on the internet and I can only find glow powered ARF's that are cheap quality from no name Chinese manufacturers. I think the only alternative is to find a high quality kit from Proctor Enterprise or VK models. Thanks for the nice comment! Happy Flyin'!
