German Railcar Rollover
After months of painstaking restoration work, the WWII German railcar owned by the American Heritage Museum was delicately moved from the shop into the exhibit hall.

EDPO - or whatever CSX is calling it now - roars to life in Gardner, trying to clear the block for stack train 22K, which is close behind. Ironically, the nicely painted PanAm B40 is the fallen flag, with the "former" CSX units now CSX units once again. Please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE for more!

Monson #3, a staple of Edaville Railroad for decades, pulls a train on the remains of the original, 5.5 mile loop around the reservoir during the 75th anniversary of the park in 2022. Thanks to a sick drone battery I couldn't give chase, but this video will give you an idea of the scale of the former loop.

Ever wondered how you "boot" a steam locomotive? I got to watch in July, 2021 as Virginia Museum of Transportation volunteers did just. The draft in the firebox is being created by air compressor. Kerosene-soaked sawdust and a couple of fusees did the rest. Steam pressure was up to 300 lbs in about six hours.
EDPO drags itself out of Gardner.
มุมมอง 892 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi, Friends! Sorry to have been "off the air" for awhile - life happens! Anyway, caught PanAm train EDPO (East Deerfield to Portland, Maine) at Gardner just as they got the signal to pull east, and it was a hard pull at that! Shortly after he got out of town we heard on the scanner that they were having trouble getting above notch 6 - possibly some malfunction of PTC. Must have been a long day ...

I know Mr Pardini personally, a master locomotive engineer he is not. Experienced, sure, but he nearly had the FRA take his engineers license away after he ass ended another train.

"And it could reverse the declining service in New England" NOWPE
He laid of hundreds off employees. Just a corporate raider. Fink was a POS
I was going to say. When he said profits, he was referring to weakening the Union and not only cutting workers but also their pay and benefits. Profit almost always comes from worker financial constraints or pay cuts in English. Guys like this owner was part of a group of, basically, modern carpetbaggers who popped up out of the sewers after Reagan and his 'gang' got deregulation going. That was because the people's government was 'their enemy' and had to be stopped. All of the transportation industries were deregulated and has been a disaster since. Even there the passengers absorb the torture of horrible travel conditions today, a byproduct of no regs protecting the people. This stuff goes on and on. Today the successors to Reagan and his kind are working to totally destroy government by the people, and making laws that enable that thinking. Yale and Harvard have been producing countless think tank yo-yos who are tripping over each other finding ways to do such things. And this railroad guy was out in the vanguard of those actions. He must be a hero to those kinds of people. To us regular folks he's just another criminal taking food off our tables while making themselves richer.
Well what do you expect when the entire industry propping up two failing railroads completely collapses, resulting in the loss of 90% of the traffic base? Don't blame Guilford for cutting all the fat that Miller and Dustin didn't have the balls to touch.
They straight up lied to those northern NH guy, they immediately abandoned that line.
Note how the railroads who took over those lines couldn't make a go at them either...
Is the train actually a passenger commuter or scenic ?
Scenic.
Scenic.
Tracks on flats on rails on a bridge over water! 👍
The train was designed for Danish use. Easy to couple and decouple. We do have places where the train has to split. Here is a video of such a split, "on the fly". An ICE3 (the diesel) and IR4 (electric). "DSB IC3 (Litra MF) - IR4 (Litra ER) Intercity Lyntog ICL decoupling at Copenhagen Central Station". Scumbag that ruined these three railroads
D&H was dead on arrival, B&M was bankrupt and lost in the sauce, MEC was staffed like they were in the 40's and held captive by the paper execs on the BOD who forced the railroad to move low or non revenue pulp wood to keep their operational costs low, and a union which resisted change. Whatever Guilford did, you cannot argue that it didn't have to be done. Everything they did someone else would have done had they bought those companies. It would have been the only way to survive.

Glad you enjoyed it!
First thanks!
Welcome!
They should have kept all of there vintage units instead of getting those ugly ass yard switchers!
I wish they had as well. The current "patch out" fleet is uninspiring!
This was the best guilford ever got
Wonderful! The RS-1 is one of my favorites. Glad to see one running! I gotta look up just how the controls work though, they're different than on EMDs or GEs for that matter.
Bay Colony used to look like a prosperous short line in the 80's. It used to run into Cape Cod and haul more freight. It looks run down and tired now... What happened?
Short story: lost their lease to operate the trackage that is state-owned. Mass Coastal took over. BCLR owns the short section of track they still operate in Dartmouth.
I have traveled thousands of kilometers in these trains. Considering they are 40 years old, they are pretty good.
Great catch!
Hate to see all the road names go to CSX.
As a danish train fan i never knew that they were in America also once
the have been in germany, sweden, israel and america , yes! tho in sweden they are only used on one unelectrified line between Linköping and Kalmar. which i think is sad, and they will be trashed soon in 2026 when the new deiseltrains arrive for the company Krösatågen!
I probably drove one of those 88s while with the 101 engineer battalion.
does the m88 have some sort of steering wheel or a different driving system?

Great Stuff!!!!! Love it. Brings back memories.
Why does it feel like this was the same set that VIA rail used in the 90s
Because it was. These 2 sets (the consists shown was 2 3-car DMU's coupled together) were originally made for the Israeli railways but were sent to the US then Canada, and then back to the US for trials. Their light weight nature, being lighter on the axles than some LRV's did cause some issues
@@drdewott9154 like grades?
@@Elliottblancher IDK about that, these trains are pretty optimised for hill climbing and somewhat steep gradients. In Denmark countless run through the great belt tunnel every day which features very steep entry and exits. And the ones in Israel like those on trial in North America, were specifically ordered for the old winding hilly railway to Jerusalem which shut down a few years ago after the electric high speed line was completed between underground Jerusalem and Tel Aviv
This is awesome!
They use a stoker when they're pulling, but for firing up, which this was, it's strictly "hand bombing". It was a sweltering July day, and the temps in the cab were most impressive!
Bozo of Chicago
I'm not sure who thought booking him to talk about his alcoholic clown film on a quasi-Christian channel was a good idea, but as he quickly figured out, it wasn't his "target audience"...
This is an extremely rare catch!!! Newport VT is way off the beaten path, to see railroad kicking up there is astonishing!!
Yeah, I should have bought lottery tickets that day. I just happened to be “droning” when WJNP arrived. Couldn’t believe my good fortune.
@@EditGuy6610 you had a camera sir, that was the win. Catching up in new England is tough. You best have time. But I do love the power up there and to here's a lot of choice , Island Pond VT has an extremely accommodating spot with a fantastic Lakeview view that is best in the country. No doubts
How much of the original trackage is included in the “new” Edaville loop? Since part of the original loop is still in tact, I wonder if they will start doing more regular “there and back” trips similar to how the WW&F operates? Great footage btw
Very little is included. The “new” loop turns left before the trackage up the east side of the reservoir. But that trackage is used for the Christmas trains, which go about 2/3 of the way up the existing track.
Interesting how the engineer is on the right side long hood forward. Opposite of GE and EMD. Guess Alco was a steam loco company at heart.
I think the customer could specify which side was the engineer's side.
Now we gotta rebuild the line
@5:33 where is that? Glad it is still around.
