Hi, my name is Gary. I am a hobbyist traditional shaver and photographer. I started my photography hobby when I was a teenager and would not call myself a professional by any means. I do however own and use multiple cameras for varying topics of photography ie street, travel and landscape.
This channel, however, is going to be focused on traditional (DE) shaving. I have been DE shaving for 6 to 7 years at the point of launch (Jan 2020) and have dabbled with shavette and straight razor shaving along the way. Initially this channel will go through the razors and soaps I started with, through to the last shaving hardware purchased. I will also discuss my experiences whilst learning to shave and give hints and pointers on how to achieve the best shave results. Shaving with a DE razor is a learning curve and you will need patience from the outset, however after a month or two, you should have learned the basics.

Mr G Shave No215 | Christmas Eve Shave | EJ 3one6 & Stirling Christmas Eve
มุมมอง 400ปีที่แล้ว
My Christmas Eve Shave Today, I use some of my favourite shaving gear. The razor has been my favourite since I purchased it years ago, the Edwin Jagger 3one6. Why is it my favourite? Well it sits in the middle, in terms of aggression, in the medium to aggressive range @ about 6 or 7 out of 10 depending on the blade used. The brush made by Francis Bosse of Tournuredebois (Etsy) is made with a pi...

Xmas Shaves Part 3: Today I decided to use Sterling Coniferous along with my Gillette Fatboy (E2) with a Gillette 7 O’clock Green blade on its 2nd use. It was an average shave to be honest. The soap is excellent but the scent strength was a bit of a let down and the Fat Boy had to be notched up to level 9 to get a half decent shave (this was my first time using the Fat Boy). In the end, I got a...

This is part 2 of my Christmas shave series. Today I use, what I think is an under appreciated razor, that doesn’t get enough coverage in my opinion. The Muhle Rocca paired with a Gillette 7 O’clock Green blade is a dream to use for those of you with a bit of experience. I would place it above the 3one6 and the GC.84 in terms of aggression but still milder than the R41. The soap featured in tod...

The angle matters on a Kamisori because of the way it is sharpened - I doesn't matter on this shavette since the blade is angled on both sides, and it's easier to make the fold to one side to manufacture it.

Just ordered a custom from the big drew Dick himself 9/8 s 3/4 s grind sheffield style square point with straight edge and purple heart scales 😁 cant wait
@@knifesharpeningnorway Sounds amazing👍 Congratulations and welcome to the DD Club😃🥳👏
@MrGShave thank you mate now the wait begins
Do you think the Drew dick is worth the money and that the quality of grind and everything is good?
@knifesharpeningnorway Hi, thanks for your question 👍. I have to say, I am really impressed with the quality of my DD razors. Really good quality 👌. I had my razors shipped directly to John June for honing as John's edges are second to none🙂. I can't comment on Drew's edge as I have never tried them. Hope that helps😎
@@MrGShave Thank you living in norway so wondering about getting one. Torn between either half hollow or 3/4 s too thinking of either 8/8 or 9/8 or maybe a huge 10/8
@knifesharpeningnorway I went full hollow on both my razors. I love the way they sing when they are in use👍

Do you think a drew dick is worth the money around 150 english pund?
Brutal shave. You took one for the team. I'll pass on the .95 for head shaves.
you don't make videos anymore, did something happen to you?
@MrFrancispiche Hi Francis👋 I originally only intended to take a month or two off, however, as I was no longer buying new gear, I felt my videos were becoming very repetitive, using the same gear and saying the same things. Since then, I still haven't bought any new gear lol. I also care for my 92 year old mother and have had a few health issues over the last year. The short break that I originally intended, has now become more permanent, I am afraid. If I do start buying new gear, I may put up a video again but it may be a while. Thanks for checking in on me though, I really appreciate it🙂
@@MrGShave Sorry to hear about your retirement, but my favorite videos don't require new equipment, except maybe other blades. I really like videos that compare blades, and I think I'm not the only one. You could make a video like: the most unrated blade! It's a suggestion, and if you're out of ideas, I can make other suggestions. Among all the youtubers who make shaving videos, you are my favorite.
I use a wide stick Alum Block similar to Geofatboys wide stick but for what’s it worth I never emmerse the tip of my Alum Block under water because the moisture that get under the container to the very bottom will erode and ruin the Alum Stick causing the stick to break off so I find just wetting my face and than applying the Alum Block keeps it lasting far longer. Sorry to be long winded again great shave. Cheers.
What about Dave Card who can whip through a shavette like a tornado going through a hay field but a very good shave Mr G. I sometimes use a shavette but when I started using my shavette it took around fifty Shaves before I got quite used to it.
IMO BIC Chrome Platinum are just as sharp, better/longer edge retention and cheaper than Feather.
Entertaining video 🤣 You may already be aware, but it's worth a shot. There are "A" and "AS" models respectively available now.

Inspirational shave 😄 Seriously though 💯
Too bloody shaved on both sides for my taste. Brrrrr🙄, it's uncomfortable for me and unacceptable, sorry.
Nice video sir G. 👍🏽 Have been following your videos, and honestly, I reviewed this one because I was about to do a head shave with my yaqi tile razor today. Done say an hour ago. This is about my 3rd head shave with the Yaqi Tile, and I can almost say that this is the best head shave I have ever gotten with a razor. With good care and patience, I achieved the closest BBS ever on my dome, and it sure feels so good. I am yet to hear of a better head shaver than the Yaqi Tile, though I have not had a wide range of razor varieties (it's better on the dome than my Rockwell 6c). My razor blade of choice is the Gillette Nacet, which I also rate very very high; 3 passes and a general touch up perfects my head shave with this razor. ❤😊
I'm cleaning up my TH-cam subscriptions and I wanted to know if you plan to make another video soon? because if you don't make videos anymore it's useless for me to stay subscribed to your channel
@MrFrancispiche Hi Francis. I have been thinking about coming back and doing a few more videos recently. I may well do one at the beginning of September just to update everyone on what I have been up to over the year.👍
Just subscribed a little late but congratulations on your granddaughter
Good shave!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
What's ur opinion will it work for body? Cuz i need razor for body only...

Hey … when do plan to come back. Its been a while. All good?
It's proven and laboratory measured that it has the same sharpness. Ur wrong grandpa
That just isn't true. Where did you get that data from?
@@adamoneale4396 it was measured and it is.
Bic all the way, it's bigger blade really overlapping but the sharpness and it's long use is same as feathers. Price says all. It's amazing blade, fk japanese overrated garbage
The reason the Kai feels more aggressive is because the Kai blade is wider (22.18 mm) vs the Feather (22.0 mm). That explains more blade feel on the Kai.
Kai are a lot more expensive than Feather and are difficult to buy in bulk. I’ll stick with Feather.
Cheers Robert👍
What is the mister you use?
Just found you Gary!, nice shave, been shaving my bonnet with electric for years, changed to wet shave for the last 3 months, love it. I used to use warm/hot water, but have now changed to cold water and find it better. Use both the leaf shave & twig - great combo. Good tip on the bowl in sink then down the loo - makes perfect sense. Trevor - Kidderminster
Great shave nice razor

Hi Gary I also have Texas on fire soap still haven’t used it yet in the den must have been there for about 6months but this morning have decided I will use it tmoro in my shave but don’t have the matching splash so was looking for a matchup splash and see you used Spitfire Phoenix and Beau and I also have that so will use this to match up Thankyou! You have saved me spending some of my well earned pennies 😂🙌
Hi Gary I hope you’re well my friend, just checking if everything is ok with you and will we be seeing anymore videos from you or is that you done? Do miss new content from you mate!! Take care.
In my usage of 7 O'clock Permasharp Stainless they are awesome sharp blades, it feels very smooth in the first shave almost overshadowes the sharpness but the twist comes from second shave in which the blade becomes noticeably sharper and continues to retain sharpness till the 5th shave after which becomes smooth. They have turned into my go to blades as it offers extremely close shaves without any irritation for 5 consecutive shaves. For ₹3/ $0.04 a blade they offer extremely high value for money.
are you still alive?
Yes, alive and kicking lol.

You are not doing it wrong. Trumpers soaps are really not that good. The lather tends to be “soapy”, full of air, and not like wipped creame the way we like it to be.
Is that really med prep or is it lab blue? On the med prep blade it says "for hospital use". 🤔 Did not see that on your blade.
Gillette skinguard and shaving cream every day
thank you for your video! I like nacet, but I find that they get dull quickly. so I haven't seen any video on your channel with Gillette minora. the Minora stainless have become my favorite, I prefer them to Feather. I think if you try them, you will like them! it would be fun to see a duel: Minora vs Feather!

Hi Chan, no, there is no mould/corrosion on the Oring👍
@@MrGShave Thank you!

New Subscriber!! Really enjoying all of your de blade vs blade battles. I’m curious to know what you feel are some of the best blades out there for coarse hair.
Hi Brennan👋 Thanks for subscribing. It is much appreciated 😃 Choosing a blade that is suited to your beard type is quite subjective. It will depend on the razor you use and how that blade pairs with the razor. My immediate thoughts are Kai, Feather, and Nacet (I am not sure if these are being produced anymore) . In the end, everyone is different. You will have to experiment with blade/razor combinations. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Wonderful video bro. 👍🏾 Was really eager to hear your verdict bcos of my love for the Gillette Nacet, which was the very first blade I used when I started wet shaving. It was so good even in my gently learning days, and I stayed with it. Rockwell blades that came with my Rockwell 6C were so disappointing and horrible first time I used them, but funny enough, my second pack of Rockwell which I ordered months after the first ones came out so smooth I was shocked. I feel Rockwell has very recently improved on their blades. Meanwhile, Gillette Nacet is just a solid go-to blade all the time👌🏾👍🏾😊
To me the mild does as good as the medium. I have both. They are both in my rotation. Ordered the Tile today.
