    You think you're cut off with your beliefs, imagine growing up in a fundamentalist protestant church like I did where annulments dont even exist and arent considered legit. Our belief was if you got married it cannot be undone, doesn't matter the circumstances, you could have been threatened into marriage and still not get the approval to get remarried. You could separate only, no remarriage until one of them dies.

    Wow, I did not know half of this. Thank you! God Bless you! What I remember from my cathequism is that people once divorced would not be allowed to re-marry and I’ve always thought that to be true. It really is hard to meet anyone out here. Speak the truth, thank you.

But hugely important. Satan wants us to do the lazy thing and give in. Follow Jesus and life and Soul will be worth it. God Bless.

    Great info! Thanks for sharing. Clarifying the “buy/purchase a Mass” for your sponsor…one can offer a stipend(recommended-usually $10/per Mass offered for the priest who says the Mass) as an offering. I understand what you mean, but some may not. :)

    In general, this is good advice. My experience in bringing up the annulment issue with divorced women is that they can become very defensive. I also think that friendship is possible as long as there is not a strong romantic attraction that could be a near occasion of sin. I agree that there is widespread ignorance on the subject, which is probably the result of poor catechesis. It is also not uncommon for priests to be "pastoral" and tell people in this situation that dating is okay as long as there is no sex or passionate activity. But even if there is no sin as such, there is not a guarantee that an annulment would be granted and there is a serious temptation to marry outside the Church if the annulment is declined. It is true that not all petitions for annulment are granted. I believe annulments are granted in about 75 percent of cases, although the percentage may vary from diocese to diocese.

    • @EJ5-g3s
      @EJ5-g3s 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah but spending more time naturally can increase the risk of romantic attraction. Thats what I have found. Sure its only natural and well we are only human. Careful with that. For me I think its only possible for same sex friendships for now anyways.

    Katherine, do you advocate excluding divorced people without an annulment from communion and going to church? Annulment and the process is a daunting task. When I provided the diocese with the large quantity of information they wanted, the Annulment seemed like a formality.

    • @CatholicKatherine
      @CatholicKatherine 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Did you watch my video? I state very clearly that divorced people who do not have annulments can receive communion- as long as they are not dating someone and are in a state of Grace. Of course everyone should attend church on Sundays at a minimum.

    • @StevenBove-pw2jn
      @StevenBove-pw2jn 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @CatholicKatherine I see communion as sustenance for the journey, not a reward for good behavior. I needed grace to get through the annulment process. How can a person be in a state of grace, but constantly receiving grace. Michael Himees has an excellent chapter on this idea in The Mystery of Faith.

    • @CatholicKatherine
      @CatholicKatherine 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is not a reward for good behavior - I don't think anyone sees it that way. It is intimacy with Christ and you must be in a state of grace to receive that intimacy. You can see it is as sustenance for the journey of life which really is just a separation from God until we die and enter Heaven.

    • @joane24
      @joane24 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@StevenBove-pw2jn "how can a person be in state of grace but constantly receiving grace" Well, that's exactly how it works. There's the growth in grace. Living in a state of sacramental grace (of often shorted to a phrase 'living in a state of grace') means not having a grave sin on your conscience. In that case, one needs to obtain the absolution in the sacrament of confession. Otherwise one cannot receive the Eucharist. But this is just the beginning of the journey and our goal is sanctification, which means we need to _grow_ in grace. We grow in grace through prayer and of course through the reception of the holy sacraments. After the divorce, and during the annulment process (or even when there's no annulment process), one can - as long as not engaging in 'relations' with another - receive communion, provided one is in the proper disposition i.e. sacramental grace.

    • @StevenBove-pw2jn

    Male with divorced/annulled "marriage" here. If a woman asks me on date #1 all the ins and outs of what happened, we won't be going on a second date. Is it important to ask eventually, maybe even early on? YES, 100%. Do I want to rehash all the pain of my failed "marriage" in the middle of a restaurant? Absolutely not.

    • @CatholicKatherine
      @CatholicKatherine 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do not believe a woman will ask you for a full report on your marriage on the first date, and if she does you can politely say you’re uncomfortable to divulge to much in public. However, I do think you should explain in a few sentences why it failed and why it was able to be annulled.

      @@joane24 I'm not talking about an annulment though. It says divorce. I know a man who was married in the Catholic Church, got divorced, not annuled and is now civilly married to another woman. He cannot receive Holy Communion and I have told him it is the same as adultery because in the eyes of God and the Church he is still married to his first wife until she passes away or gets the marriage annuled.

    • @joane24
      @joane24 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheGuvnorsDaughter But the divorce alone doesn't say if one has annulment or not. So you can't say that 'short answer - yes'. Because one can be divorced, but if the marriage wasn't valid, they're free to date. So it's not a short answer.

    • @joane24
      @joane24 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheGuvnorsDaughter For example, a friend of mine got divorced, but she's free to date and marry if she wishes, because her marriage wasn't valid in the first place (she was baptized/brought up Catholic, but didn't have a Catholic wedding at all, only secular marriage and secular divorce). So there's no 'short answer - no', because depending on the situation and examples, you can get the opposite answer as well.

    Thank you for pointing that out- too many people assume that 'everyone can get an annulment..". A Catholic person who is divorced and has not received an annulment is STILL MARRIED. so its adultery.. They may be divorced but the tribunal may decide that yes the marriage was valid .. That person should not be dating and we ought not be dating them. Too many people are so badly catechized.. And a person who Caused the divorce- up and left to cheated on their spouse .. and has not repented/gone to confession... is not someone who ought to be receiving communion.

    I am single, never married, not dating anyone at the current moment. Having said that, I wonder about some who was divorced, and lets hypothetically was refused an annulment by the church. So does mean literally that this person has to remain single for the rest of their life ? So if you are 25 years old, not granted an annulment, this mean you can never get married ?

    • @CatholicKatherine
      @CatholicKatherine 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Correct - if you do not receive an annulment you just remain single until your spouse dies … even if you’re 25 years old. The sacrament of marriage is not something to take lightly for this reason.

      Remember that divorce doesn’t really exist in the Catholic Church. You’re either married or unmarried. If you’re divorced according to the State, you’re still married according to the Church unless the Church has decreed that your marriage was never valid to begin with. Until that point, you’re to live like you’re still married. This means you might be separated but still married. So you don’t engage in extramarital romances (or even entertain them). Which means it would be bad to even go on a date while still married. However, if you’re separated (even though marriage is not annulled) you can still receive communion as long as all other requirements are met (Eucharistic fast, free from mortal sin etc).

      Thank you! I love the wallpaper. Catholic church - Orthodox does not follow the succession of St Peter with the Pope Francis.

    Oh my gosh! I used to work at a Catholic Museum and the sisters of life came in. It had just snowed and I swear they looked like angels.

    I’m a secular Franciscan candidate. As a young female i could not see myself in a convent personally. I love visiting monasteries and convents.

    I really enjoyed this video. Can you please do another video and go deeper into your discernment process? What was your daily routine like there? What did you feel during prayer in your discernment process. What made you feel you weren’t called to be a sister? Thank you for the video. God bless you 🙏

    This is wonderful! God bless you as you discern. I plan to send this to some young women I know. The Sisters of Life are amazing women of God.

    Hardest part for many, who dont live near big cities is that accessing meet ups for religious outside immediatecarea is near impossible at times.

    Most communities have exploratory weekends or retreats. Many communities now have an information pages online. For many communities there is an age range that will be accepted. Your parish pastor will be required to make a recommendation normally, you just have to go and ask. Most communities require you to be debt free and bring with you a specific amount of money to pay for insurance and such for the first year or two. Many communities also have oblate programs. Oblates are secular people who are following that community's spirituality prayer life as well as they can in the secular life. When you enter, there are stages of preparation. Benedictine communities have candidates, then novices, then Juniors (have made first vows) and then you make your final vows. If you are considering entering religious life, ask about the stages of formation, what is involved and what the expectations are. Ask about the levels of involvement in the religious community throughout formation that you would have at each stage in the process, what work or "mission" assignments are often available, routine and spiritual life routines are, the process of education that the community utilizes, etc. If your chosen community has an oblate program, I would look into that as well. Research the spirituality "type" of your chosen community. Learn about their founding and what mission they were founded upon. Communities such as Benedictines, community is important. Prayer and work within the community is important. Mother Teresa's sisters, Dominicans, Franciscans, Mercy Sisters, Jesuits, etc. all were founded to service specific functions. Make sure that your inter-workings align. Living as a Religious is counter-cultural. Especially today, it requires a mind-shift. You also have to remember, Religious are not perfect, they are people who are trying to follow the path that they believe God has drawn them to travel. Many people forget this and get "offended" when they experience people who are not perfect but who are trying. You have to remove the "me' from life and focus on a "bigger" objective. I would recommend that you attend different "come and see" weekends at different communities. Even within the same spirituality tradition, there are differences in the "feeling' of the Mother House community, find the community that "fits" you.

      Look at Mirjana Soldo or Marija Lunetti pls. Both have apparation of Our Lady in Medugorje. It is not about the outer appearance in the first place. Grace does not necessarily lead to this kind of asceticism in all cases.

    I'm discerning Consecrated Virginity. Unless you hate it, i really felt like you were called from the moment the video started. I hope and pray that you dont perpetually discern because your openness is inspiring. I did not have a good experience discerning but am genuinely happy that you did.

    No. Admittedly I'm not in favor of consecrated celibacy. I think it's tragic when young women choose to not pursue marriage and family. Just my two cents.
