It is extremely odd to me, after the many games and media that feature Japanese locations, people, stories, etc… that when this game comes and features a Black protaganist and Female protaganist, ALL OF A SUDDEN there’s an issue and it’s put under a microscope? Where was the energy with Nioh? You know? The soulslike that feature a white samurai protaganist based on William Adams that also tells a fantasy version of actual historical events? The one where part of the game involved him killing certain historical figures who got possessed by demons, etc…BTW Yasuke appeared as an NPC enemy you face during the story. Also pretty sure nobody piped up with the 47 Ronin having Keanu in the cast. The Last Samurai w/ Tom Cruise? Crickets. Even the newer Yasuke anime that came out a couple of years ago didn’t generate the backlash I’ve seen this game get. I think biases are being stoked by racist and sexist people. I did see that the Japanese government is looking into things allegedly. I am curious to see what the verdict would be.

The book that describes the events is written by a WHITE who promotes a "revision" of history that is not true, is highly manipulated and altered, for political reasons, create confrontations between races, as if black history was not enough to have its own stories. If Ubi Soft had not sold the game as "historical facts" there would be no problem, but that is not the case. Japan, simply defends ITS real and authentic history. Not all countries agree on the US crazy revisions of its history. One's own history is very important for the entire planet, except for the USA. It is what defines us as nations. The last Samurai was never sold as "true", and Ronin 47 is fantasy. Also Ubi Soft is racist, like when they use hip-hop music when Yasuke comes out. Brother, Yasuke was from Mozambique, not American, it is another insult, to believe that because you are black, you listen to hip-hop. American stereotypes again. This is like Cleopatra being black, if it were fantasy, no problem, but saying that it is a historical fact is ridiculous. He was a direct family of Alexander the Great, who was Greek. Furthermore, I live less than a thousand kilometers from Africa, a continent full of great stories and legends. How is it that no African story is ever adapted to film or video games? The truth of things is in the intention, and the USA politics is very interested in racial confrontation. Black people deserve better representation of their own culture. And when I talk about black culture, I am not referring to the wrong called "African-American" culture, which as Morgan Freeman (God) said: "African-American culture does not exist, because it is American culture." TRUE. I am referring to the rich African cultures. Nope there is one, there are dozens and all differents. Peace and maximum respect bro, and sorry for my english.

And The 47 Ronin was as well and it is literally one of the most well known and famed stories from Japanese history. The film was just a fantasy retelling of it. When it comes to Yasuke, there are documents dating back to the late 1500’s mentioning him being in Nobunaga’s service as a vassal, etc… Now sure. We can discuss Black stories needing to be told more in media. But that is a separate issue. Black people have been apart of history in many different parts of the world and those stories are just as important.

Because of his black skin and height, he impressed Oda Nobunaga, who had him among his servants, until in a certain battle, where he defended himself well, he managed to be freed and returned to Mozambique. Black people have been apart of history, because they have basically not been part of it. Only in the USA, the last 300 years. For example, I had not seen a black person until 1992, it was Michael Jordan, who I was able to shake hands in the middle of the street. It is time for you to assume your own history. You are American, your story is American. A Nigerian man has his story and he knows it well, the story of Nigeria. the same with someone from the Congo or Guinea. The fact that you don't know yours is because you don't accept reality, you are Americans. The rest is deceiving yourself my friend. Surely you have no idea about the history of any African country, and do you know why? Because you are not African. And since you don't know her, you tell yourself that you have not been part of the story. By the way, The Last Samurai is not history, you Americans believe anything you tell yourselves, that doesn't make it true. It is only "inspired" by historical events that did occur. And Ronin 47 is still fantasy, although the background is built with authentic Japanese mythology. The truth always hurts, except for the wise man, who learns from his mistakes. Peace.

Thank you fam. I typically try not to address negativity here but felt the last video on this game went left as far as some of the replies. Unfortunately, the landscape of politics has kinda ruined many folks’ ability to critically think about things. Like you said, narratives get made up to galvanize people and folks just run withy the shit instead of doing their own research. I also think some just genuinely forget how games have always existed in a space where they reflect the current events of society and as society becomes more conscious, there’s naturally going to be more inclusion which means more stories like this get told. I’m thinking about doing a playthrough. Wether I do it as a standalone and post highlights or stream it, I’m not sure. But thank you so much for the recommendation and being here supporting the channel. It means alot.

Ppl spending so much time with much more popular channels, probably one of the reasons why all this controversies around Shadows got so out of hand. Rightfully theres some validity to it, like how they copied and paste a flag of an reenactment group in Japan or stole one of the photos that shows one of the roleplayers in the reenactment group and put it into their concept art. I can't lie, that was pretty foul of Ubisoft Im just hoping from this point on, they stop messing up the marketing for this game, people are already upset enough as it is. Not that I align myself with some of them anyways But I just want to see more people hyped for Shadows. Instead of all this outrage BS we've been getting. Hire more Japanese historians, and make a video interview so to let the ppl know! Lets pray Shadows comes out as a Banger!! 🙏🙏

@samcollends absolutely man. I try to keep this channel all about the importance of remembering that games are supposed to be fun. There’s definitely a business end and development end with games and I’m no stranger in noticing the hard work devs do get sullied by bad decisions made by leadership. Like you said though, it’s all about making sure folks aren’t taking advantage of the outrage which I feel some creators do in order to keep engagement going. That said man, I definitely look forward to this release and will put some serious consideration into posting highlights or a full playthrough via stream on the channel.

I don't know if it will be conveyed correctly because I use a translator, but I will summarize the parts that Japan people are having trouble with. First, UBIsoft stated that it was a "historical fact" and "filled the blank history of Japan." And the theft of a large number of images and photos, including concept art. You can check the unauthorized use of Japan's national treasures and important cultural properties on the actual play screen. To be honest, I can't write all of them.

​@@user-lh9xc5iz8o First, a lot of that has been heavily misinterpreted by media. When they said they will "fill in the blank history of Japan", they didn't mean Japan itself. They were just mainly referring to Yasuke. And I'm sure you're aware of the Honno-ji incident, where Yasuke fled to Oda Nobutada, Nobunaga's son. But then fled away soon, again. As Nobutada also committed seppeku like Nobunaga earlier. After that, there was no more record of his history. So since there's no more history of him, that allows Ubisoft to have creative liberty to do what they want with the character. Hence, Ubisoft will fill in those blanks since there's no more recorded history of Yasuke. So since that part of him will be made up, it cannot be called as historically inaccurate or accurate. It's just purely fiction.

@@EmurjBrooks if I recall I think maybe we had grabbed some because my friend who ran it with me and was teaching me, was opening the doors so I could grab them. But not sure how much of a part it played in my drop cuz I still had to do alot afterwards to complete the quest and get the catalyst.

Historical events, people, locations, etc… As evidenced by other comments here and the general discussion surrounding the game itself, it’s clear that telling Yasuke’s story and putting him in the mix is a great move as it sheds light on a little known piece of Japanese history that actually took place in an otherwise well documented and notable period of the country’s overall history. I can definitely respect though that you were more excited about something with a more ninja-like approach to the gameplay since there are a good many games based around Samurai combat, etc… I appreciate you dropping your thoughts and sharing your opinion. We’ll definitely see how it all goes.

I can respect where you’re coming from here. Status effects especially when they’re not immediately understandable can make things kinda insufferable (i.e. Lords of the Fallen remake lol). I would say Lies isn’t unique though in having Status Effects. A good majority of souls games and souls-likes have them in some form or another. It’s just a matter of taking some time to learn how they all function. Hell I’m still trynna take notes on how Status effects work in Enotria lol. I am sorry to hear it ruined the experience. That sucks as its a really great game. I also understand having to walk away when something isn’t fun anymore. Are you currently on anything else?

@@diorscott5432I definitely feel that. I’ve thought about an XBox myself but also run into that issue of more cons than pros, mainly just my time to play. If I was doing games and content full time maybe it’d be different but since I just fit all this in when I have some time, easier for me to just stick with my main system.

I’ve seen it. I just always have felt like there was more to thats story that didn’t get fully fleshed out in the inkblot cutscene we got. That’s all I meant. I always prefer cinematics to stills/inkblots

As far as the Vex go thats a pretty good theory especially with the Pale Heart being able to form locations based off of our experiences and memories. Alternatively though, we know the Witness had a good deal of influence over the Sol Divisive faction of the Vex, whom are the ones that inhabit the Black Garden. It’s entirely possible that the Hydra was of the Sol Divisive and thus why it’s presence is seen, just like the weird Scorn Abomination.

So my thought process is that, for some reason, when the Witness encounters a race that has experienced the hope that the Traveler provides, it wants to do everything within it’s power to break and extinguish that hope because thats ultimately what the beings that became the Witness felt before finally making their choice to merge. I think perhaps humanity is unique in how relatable we are to the civilization the Witness once was and perhaps its that echo that makes it very wanting of our approval.

Oh no no I apologize for not being clear. I meant seeing a full cinematic. I know the meat and potatoes like everyone else but I’d be fascinated to see that moment brought to life in a cinematic vs just the inkblot cutscene we got cuz I feel there was alot more to that whole part of the narrative than what was explained on the surface. I know their species had different factions with different trains of thought on what was and how best to achieve their vision of the final shape and one of those factions essentially wiped out the other one.

When it comes to the Lore especially, I love to dive deep so if we’re ever able to see moments in game vs reading them or getting like images, I’m all for it. And thats not to shoot down the inkblot cutscenes or other various pieces of art either. It’s just the team always makes phenomenal cinematics. If they ever make a Destiny series, its gunna be 🔥🔥🔥
