      look for the 70s red label with pc paste over it was originally KC but they put a PC sticker to cover up the old catalog number, those usually sound wonderful,,,

Ah, ol' Herbie... That's great you're seeing him man, I got to see his Future Shock tour which was awesome of course. Love me some Herbie! I have just about all his albums, mostly either early 1970's pressings (Black 'B' Blue Note) or some of the amazing 2-45 Analog Productions ones like Head Hunters which is mind blowingly fantastic! Gotta check out the Miles, I have TONS of his too but not that one. Thanks Bobby, good to see your mucky ol' face again!

    I always enjoyed your videos. It's great to see that you posted. I've had to substantially curb my vinyl record purchasing (including those Blue Note Classics), but I did pick up that Jar of Flies repress and thought it was solid as well. The last BN I was tempted to snap up was Hank Mobley - Workout (1961) and today I was sampling Joe Henderson - Power to the People (1969) after hearing good things about the Jazz Dispensary version. If you're up to and and able, I look forward to more content. Cheers!

    Because these "Original Master Recordings" are actually REMASTERS of these legacy albums. A remaster, despite what the engineers hawk, or anyone else tells you, can never sound as good or as authentic as the ORIGINAL, CONTEMPORARY release of something. Want the best sounding Thriller by Michael Jackson? Seek out early issue LP(1982-84) or CD(1983-85). Close to the time that thing cane out, should sound most authentic.

    I did notice the differece between the original of Elvis X-mas album 1957 and the speakers corner edition, wich I have recently bought. It's a great release, but, the order of the photos in the booklet is different, and the artwork and labels are not 100 percent authentic ( I have the original '57 LP sans sleeve and booklet) like Elvis is Back! for instance. Other than that it is a great release. I just wonder why speakers corner didn't do this more authentic. Maybe Sony didn't give permission for all of this? Also on the spine of the sleeve they've printed 2x LOC 1035 unlike the original only 1x LOC 1035. May seem nitpicking to some of you, but if you do a faithfull reproduction, it should be 99,9 percent like other releases.

    • @simonemurray1345
      @simonemurray1345 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're all pretty much exactly the same. This happens a ton, especially with older pressings, where one person masters it, and makes notes, then their underlings/coworkers cut the laquers to their notes. Cutting a new lacquer doesn't mean it's a totally different mastering. It's all based off of the original mastering notes. It's no different than the same engineer cutting 10 lacquers for different plants. For example, the Bob Dylan mono box was done by George Marino. However, Ryan k Smith worked for him and cut lacquers for later copies. They all sound the same because it was based on his notes. Another is the new steely Dan regular releases. Bernie grundman mastered the file, while another guy cut it, its still bernies master, but has the other guys markings. Another scenario is stamper approval. Often when new stampers are made, a different engineer will be there, and will sign it. For example there are many lz iv pressings with both porky and piros stamps. Because Peckham cut it, and piros approved the stampers when Peckham wasn't there. This is also highly likely outside of a new lacquer being cut. They probably made too few stampers from the lacquer, so each engineer who was there when the new ones were made signed them. This is why out of the 4 versions, many share the same runouts otherwise. So the point is, Kevin gray didn't remaster the album, he either cut it to the notes, or just approved the stamper. He did not have the pull or authority to make any changes at that time. If he did, they would have advertised it as a new remaster. He'd just follow instructions. They just all worked at the same mastering company, and so when sundazed sold more copies than they realized, they'd ask for another lacquers cut, and whoever was available would cut it. This is why on alot of older records, there will be two mastering engineer stamps. Because one mastered it and the other cut the lacquers based off their notes. This is why they have the same runouts besides the cutters stamp. So all of them sound the same. Don't waste money overpaying for the Kevin gray name. Theyre not going to redo a beloved remaster 3 times in 2 years under the same label. If they're all the same price, then sure grab the Kevin gray because he's so desirable today, but don't pay double for it just based off his name. All the sundazes are identical and any possible variation would be so small as to be unnoticeable. A new cut ≠ new remaster. They're all the same. Edit: here is confirmation They're all the same. Sundazed told Michael fremmer that.... According to Sundazed, their mono Surrealistic Pillow reissue was not cut from a digital source, but rather from tape by Vlado Meller at Sony Mastering So vlado Meller did the remaster. He then cut what's called a cutting tape. This cutting tape was then used to cut the lacquers, and whichever engineer available did it. Which is why there's 4 different variations in a couple year span. Kevin gray would make 0 changes, because when cutting a lacquer from a cutting tape, you make no changes, it's just a flat cut. So every one of them is the vlado meller mastering. They're all the same. And if anything, you're better off with an Ingram than a Kevin gray, because Kevin did the very last batch, after the copy tape was already cut multiple times. Due to degradation of a tape over time and through cutting, the Ingram would be "the best". But this I'd negligible and likely wouldn't even be noticeable in any way. They're all cut the same way from the same premastered tape. They mastering is all the same. Do just buy the cheapest one, not overpay for Kevin's name.

Those paper sleeves Third Man use are the worst possible kind,you can see all the paper debris over the record as soon as you pull it out. Easy enough to clean off now as they are fresh out the factory but not so easy if you were to pick up a sealed copy in a year or two or more.

    Hey Bro! Just the other day at a small used record store near me I stumbled upon a copy of Ramsey Lewis: Sun Goddess that you recommended a while back. When I originally checked it out when you suggested it I thought it was good, but a bit commercial for my taste. I really dig more the progressive later Miles Davis stuff. BUT... it was only $4 and in pretty good shape, so I grabbed it. Actually, I'm listening to side 1 and I'm like'n it. I'm thinking, Damn that song sounds familiar, isn't that an Earth Wind & Fire song? Sure enough Philip Bailey was singing on it too 😊 Then I hear what I KNOW is Stevie Wonder's In The City. So, I'm like, Damn these are covers, but they're of GOOD songs! So, I'm glad I got it. Thanks for the recommendation! 👍
