My dream car I own a four door hard top years ago I purchased a convertible three years ago 472 Big Block motor love those engines
Magnifique 🇫🇷
The Standard of the World - superb motoring!
Fabulous car like all the classic big Citroens ahead of its time. Great review many thanks.
why didnt you drop the top
I wanted to but the wind noise would have made the audio challenging.
I had a buddy of mine who put an mi-16 engine in a 205 with throttle bodies... Jesus that thing wheelspan in every gear bar 5th. Doin 80 in 4th then stamp on the gas, and you were wrestling that steerin wheel like your life depended on it lol. Lovely drive. Many thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it, sure would love to bear witness to your buddy's 205!
Never got to own one of these.... but i sure kept on them.
Mike, truth be told from a viewers point of view, A LOT of sound is coming through either your camera or a mic. That car is quite loud. How can you even listen to the radio?? Sounds like both wind and road (tyre) noise.
For some reason the mic on my phone is making it sound a LOT louder than it actually is inside the cabin of the car. It seems to be amplifying both road and tire noise.
Interesting findings. I think that Toyota made this car to be reliable and very efficient. I do not think that Toyota will make a sports car version out of this model. And if you do not want an SUV (and not everybody wants one) this is a great car.
I bought one new....
A pity that you just see the sky and the treetops. Don´t really get any road or speed feeling!
Agree
You should always drive in the normal height mode, when driving on a normal highway!
Heartbreakingly beautiful. I have obsessed over this car since I was 5.
Is this an odd fire engine ? Any commonality with the Biturbo V6 ?
This is a super car the engine dhe gear the dash everythink. Why citroen makes shitty cars now
Good question
Citroen went bankrupt because of this car and the upcoming CX. Then it was taken over by Peugeot and went downhill since then. The C6 from 2002 still had an elegant look and kept the hydraulic suspension until 2017. I don't care about other models, including the gimmicky "DS" rebrand.
This really is an exotic car in every way.
iconic car, the summon of modernismo!
Nice video about a dashboard.
european cadillac eldorado! and propably sounds better than one!
The engine sound is FANTASTIC - I cannot believe that it’s a V6 (they usually, to my ear, sound like bolts in a washing machine or artificially autonomous “engines;” I guess it’s the spell of the Italian’s that can make a V6 actually sing - Garcia, Maserati! ❤
To me, driving it sounded like an aircraft. Not that I ever flew but, it just struck me that way.
@@Brooksvw100 They always sound a bit lumpy at tick over, but glorious under acceleration.
Citroen sm mooie auto ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Quelle belle sonorité🥰
Citroen should of changed the steering rack gearing to make it less sensitive. I know people say you get used to it. You shouldn't have to. Probably lost alot of sales because of that. Scared alot of people off.
But then it wouldn't have been half as interesting as it is today.
It didn’t take me any time to get used to it. Rather, it was a revelation and immediately everything else seemed crude in comparison. It’s when Citroen dumbed everything down for focus groups that there was no point to them any more.
I had this car and loved it for 150k miles! Too bad the rust got him in the end :(
Can it also be done while in motion? Or only when the car is standing?
camera a fraction too low
Agree , we don't see the road.
Sadly all ICE cars will be ilegal in EU and USA soon!
Fun fact; in the UK the TRD was renamed TDR. This was because the marketing peeps predicted it would become known as ‘the turd’.
La plus extraordinaire voiture du monde…!
normally the ones i knew that had this car ,they never complain about any problem with it ,i at the time had already bought two cars and when this was available for sale i couldn´t aford it but later when looking for one in second hand i couldn´t find one for sale , so the problems with it ,i´m not aware of them , just remenber driving one and feeling it was better than most of the confortable cars at the time that were the DS ,rolls royce or mercedes , cadillac also but doesn´t count due to their gasoline comsumption ,if there were a cadilac turbo-diesel i would have bought one, mercedes didn´t release any form of the C1 (the sportive model ,that in some time they were discussing of releasing it with a turbo diesel engine ,but it never came out none of them just available to be seen in auto-shows as the classic that never was)this still remains as one of the cars that got away, there were other confortable cars but none with the quality of the ones i refer
Best car in the world, to me.
Is this the carburetted 2.7? Sounds gorgeous
It sure is!
the only car i didn´t had but wanted one
Also known as the Graduate due to being used in the 1967 film of the same title that made Dustin Hoffman a star!
Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16!
I don't hear a buzzer in this video...what does the Citroen SM horn sound like?
The engine really sounds great 😊
Thank you! It's a properly snarly unit that never lets you forget it's happy to do its work.
What a beautiful dash…. Still looks somewhat modern
Incredible to think that the entire car - dash design and all - was conceived more than 50 years ago!
"Somewhat"? It´s the most modern looking car in the whole world!
@@jourwalis-8875 No stupid 'infotainment' screens, no steering wheel festooned with God knows what. Everything you need, nicely laid out.
No doubt it’s was beyond it’s time.
Amazing car ...
0 rpm @ 100 kph wow!😍
Imagine a 6 spd manual Gearbox 7:32
Even at 80MPH, the SM is only turning 3K RPMs putting you right in the meat of the power band. But, yes, a 6 speed would make a perfect car even more perfect!
Wonderful! 1:39
I HAVE ONE OF THIS CAR BUT I CANT ADD ANDROID DISPLAY :(
💖 "Promo sm"
thank you so much for sharing this video of an amazing car i will never get to drive in my life
Glad you enjoyed it! Check out more amazing content at autosnob.net
Never say 'never'. It has been my dream car for 40 years. It hasn't mattered to me what amazing cars have appeared since then, it has always been an SM for me. And now I have one, fitted with a Merak SS engine. If you live anywhere near Co. Durham, England, come and see me, and have a drive!
The SM is a spaceship. Thanks for the videos.
The engineering on this car is truly alien and, if you're uninitiated, it really does feel like you're piloting a spaceship. The combination of the brake button, super quick, self centering Diravi steering and hydropnuematic suspension ensures the SM drives like nothing else. Glad you enjoyed the videos! Thanks for sharing the driving experience. Somehow i cant imagine 50 years from now anyone will be in love with a 2023 Tesla.
Glad you liked it! Check out more great content at autosnob.net
that would be fun ,but i´ll not be around anymore to see it, maybe they´ll keep a car to say this was maybe the first electric car that worked ,in a time that people were told that electricity was enviroment friendly wich are not and already creating problems about disposing them ,mainly the badly built batteries and all plastic that they were built from
@@RUfromthe40s I made a similar comment on another channel here The reality is with all the electronics and batteries, It’ll probably be nearly impossible for it to be running in 50 years unlike a basically mechanical car.
@@malcolmwhite6588 well, this is sand being thrown to our eyes , the killing of people everyday with bombardments it releases more CO2 than a entire big city in Europe for a month and since early 90´s it didn´t stop ,only changed place and electricity , the most of it consumed in Europe comes from nuclear powerplants ,those other systems are ridiculous unefective ,in my region as seen on discovery channel what once were fields of olive trees and vines as in that region the wine is perfect no quimicals added , it was maybe the smoother wine in all europe now all those panels can´t provide electricity for the nearest village where most are very old people and they go to bed when the sun comes down ,so no electricity but isn´t enough , it as to be taken from the main suply, so to end ,electric cars is like returning to cars moved by beasts ,no one has money to buy a electric car ,diesel mercedes are the more looked after, 70´s, 80´s and early 90´s is the car of the people, my first car was a 280S from 68 in a time where gasoline was terrible expensive but it was economical at low speeds like 100kms/hour and used to carry 7 persons in it, people are being terribly informed from a nightmare that everybody will wake up , and i studied electronics but before i started with high tension electricity ,so i think i know a thing or two about this, today i´m driving a skoda octavia turbo diesel but at weekends i drive a 600SEC from the 90´s ,it as less emitions than a renault clio 1.4 L gasoline ,new .It relates with the technonoly applied.
