    This should NOT be Zelda's Future! PLEASE hear me out! I'm not saying that Zelda shouldn't ever be playable again or that there shouldn't ever be playable female protagonist again. Please do not get me wrong! What I'm saying is that having Zelda be completely puzzle centric with little to no actual direct combat at all going forward should NOT be Zelda's future because that is NOT what Zelda is. Again, please hear me out! I'm not saying that they should go back to the old formula (though that would be nice to be honest as I miss how the series was before this whole "rethinking the conventions" madness). I'm saying that there are things that make a Zelda game a Zelda game that Nintendo has developed a nasty habit of removing these days that they shouldn't have. Things like the relevance of Link's green tunic, Link himself as the legendary hero in general, proper dungeons, actual music, enemy/boss variety, sturdy weapons and shields, and of course, now recently added to the list, combat. I get that puzzles are the one the main important staples of the series, but so is combat. Like, combat being in a Zelda game is even more important than Link wearing green. Especially at this point. And this game lacks real combat. Zelda does not have to have the same inventory/arsenal or gameplay as Link exactly for there to be a successful combat system. Especially when she already has her own established arsenal/inventory to begin. And she has a basic concept of her own gameplay. The only things that are missing are her inventory/arsenal and how she handles direct combat differently from Link. Keep puzzles, but have some actual combat. I know it's a game of Wisdom, but so was Oracle of Ages and Breath of the Wild. Both of which had combat in them. Zelda doesn't have to be the same thing over and over again. But the series does need it's core vital conventions to keep it's identity very much alive. It needs both it's combat and puzzle solving. With either or and you end up with a Zelda 2 or this...game. And with the negative feedback that BotW and especially TotK got, releasing a game like this a year later as a main series title no less was not a good idea. Yes, everyone is hyped now. But I'm worried that if this TriRod stuff is really all this game has to offer, a lot of people are gonna be disappointed as some people, including myself, already are, but just most have a hard time being honest about it because it's still so early and everyone is hyped. But once that game releases, and there wasn't really much of anything to the game's gameplay experience other than what we saw so far, everyone who's already disappointed now are gonna be much louder and more honest about it then than they are now. And as the hype settles down, it'll be like SS and TotK all over again. People won't any longer be afraid to voice their honest opinions at that point as the game would have already been out for awhile. That's why I don't want this to be Zelda's future. We need to return to an era where we can just be excited for each new Zelda game again, like the good ol' days. No more underwhelming, lackluster, or too much "not Zelda" experiences! More actual Zelda experiences is what we need going forward! It's fun to experiment and/or brainstorm with new ideas. But devs just need to be careful not to take that way too far. Different can be good sometimes when done right. But there is such thing as too different. And that's what this game seems to be so far! It doesn't feel like Zelda to me at all! I thought that BotW wasn't Zelda because how Link's green tunic was treated. But while that is important for lore reasons, that's not one of the few main crucial things that important in Zelda in terms of proving that charming Zelda experience. Combat is! Combat, puzzles, and Exploration. Exploration somewhat as even games without much exploration like Four Swords and TriForce Heroes feel more like Zelda than this game does. This game, the one game where Zelda is actually playable, just does not feel like Zelda at all. Which is heartbreaking because you'd think for Zelda's first adventure, they'd keep the direct combat in some form, even though it's supposed to be puzzle focused. I'm not mad about the TriRod gameplay itself. I'm mad that that may be all this game has to offer in terms of gameplay. That's what I'm mad about most! And why this game has me worried for Zelda's future. Because of what's missing. The combat! If they really want this kind of game to be a thing for the series, with little to no combat, like, that bad, then they should've just played it safe and made this game a spinoff. Instead, they needed this game to sell, so they slapped "The Legend of Zelda" title on and called it a day. These words aren't even enough to express how scared I am for Zelda's future because of what this game is missing. I want to love this game! I do! Great artstyle! Beautiful design! Amazing overworld to explore! Everything looks good...except the gameplay! So far anyways. I hope there's more that's more like the Zelda I know, but knowing how Nintendo is these days, I doubt it. Unless I see Zelda have some kind of item that can be used as weapon in this game, I'm probably skipping this game, sadly. I need my combat in my Zelda. That's one the things that got me into the series when I was very little! I know this comment is long, but I just had a lot to say, in response to the 10/10 rating in the thumbnail and the video title and description. I feel the opposite of joy from seeing what this game lacks, I feel stressed by what this game lacks. I just want my Zelda back! The Zelda I grew up with!😭

I was being honest about of my feelings. And I felt like I had to post them because I feel it's important for people see how I care about the series and why this game is concerning. I'll probably still buy this game eventually and play it as it's not a bad game in general. However, I just don't think it's a good Zelda game. I don't want any trouble. I'm just upset to see that Zelda may be changing too much is all. I don't expect you to forgive me or anything. @@giulytsme Yeah! I already did. Outside of the part that was spoiled for me in the comments, it was somewhat better than I thought. I like that you did at least express some concern about the new focus on creative gameplay. I do hope that we do get more out of the game than just what we saw, much like with TotK. Hopefully we have more ways fighting enemies other than just the creative way through the Tri Rod. One thing that I do like and find interesting about the Tri Rod is that it does remind me of scrapped item from Minish Cap where you basically literally used it in the same sort of way as the Tri Rod. Though, I still hope we get a Bow of Light and Magic Blade that needs magic to use at their best so that we still have to be strategic in how we go about combat. It is a game about Wisdom after all. Imagine this game really is another true Multiplicative Gameplay style game like you said in the video. The Tri Rod may not even be the only thing we use to tackle the obstacles in the game, but merely the main focal point item, like the Sheikah Slate in BotW and Rauru's Arm in TotK. Just because it's the main focus for story reasons, doesn't mean it's only thing we use. Hopefully we can still get a Bow of Light or Magic Bow that can shot magical arrows as long as we have enough magic. And a Magic Blade that also needs magic to perform at it's best. And when Zelda uses it, she thrusts just like Link did with the sword in the first Zelda game. But no swinging though to avoid Zelda becoming too much like Link. And no other items besides those three items for similar reasons. Except for maybe an ocarina for fast travel and a magic reliant hookshot like item as an alternative for crossing large gaps. Maybe Zelda's arsenal outside of the Tri Rod can be just be a way to bring back the classic magic meter, where we have to refill it manually. This would explain why we need to use the Tri Rod so often because our magic meter doesn't refill automatically like in ALBW or TFH and magic restoration isn't as easy or cheap as older games. Perhaps, also, just like BotW and TotK, there's a cooking mechanic in this game too, where we can cook meals to restore health, magic, and Tri's force power. Materials/ingredients for meals and potions to restore magic being the hardest and most expensive to come by, forcing us to make good use of the Tri Rod. That would really push players venture around, grinding for enough material and ingredients for enough magic restorative meals and potions to last through the dungeons and bosses. That way many fans, including myself can still enjoy the game however we want without having to feel too restricted to just using the Tri Rod. As I said that that is literally my only concern is the idea that the Tri Rod is the only thing we use for combat in this game. I agree that Multiplicative Gameplay is definitely good for Zelda going forward as that is one of things that I actually enjoyed about BotW and TotK. But I think this game needs it too in order for it to be a good Zelda game. I really don't want to be restricted to just the Tri Rod.

    I swear to god, every time that I hear someone say "Classic Zelda doesn't feel like an adventure because exploration isn't free enough", I feel like I'm gonna have an Aneurism. Like, seriously, what kind of chemicals happen in the brain for people to come up with such nonesense? It doesn't hold the slightest amount of water under the slightest scrutinity. If we were gonna use that logic, we wouldn't be able to call "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" adventure stories because the characters had linear path to follow from start to finish. When Bilbo Baggings left the Shire saying that he was going to an adventure, did you stop and think "Hmmm... Actually, no Bilbo, you're not. You're not going to explore, you're just going to a very specific place to get a very specific thing, and you are following a very specific path. I'm afraid you're just going to a theme park, buddy"?. See how absurd that line of thinking is? And that's before we got into the many, MANY problems that multiplicative gameplay has brought to the series. Namely the fact that they have made puzzle solving in Zelda games to become a trivial matter, since the lack of limitations has made them incredibly susceptible to brute force solutions at best, and be utterly broken at worst. ESPECIALLY in TotK, which I swear to god, Nintendo grew complacent and the level designers just stopped caring about puzzle design altogether, thinking that "letting the players be creative" meant they didn't need to think too hard about exploits, even if many of them require the same level of brain power and dexterity as pressing a "skip puzzle" prompt. And like I saw in a comment in another video "There's nothing satisfying in outsmarting a developer who didn't give a shit". I'm still going to give this game a chance, since having Zelda as the protagonist is something I've been waiting for a long time. But if this game ends up being yet another double down on the BotW path, then it would mean the Zelda IP is alive and well, but the Zelda series died in 2011, 2013 if you are generous.

    • @giulytsme
      @giulytsme วันที่ผ่านมา

      You actually got a point. Breaking the game with experimentation is not fun when you get too overpowered with crazy contraptions. There surely is a great sense of satisfaction in inventing them yourself. But one never knows for certain if you are outsmarting a well designed puzzle or if the puzzle was weak and bland to begin with. That gameplay surely comes with its issues, but I think its implementation still needs time to be perfect, and I'm really enthusiastic about it. As for the "Adventure" topic. Maybe I need to clarify. Zelda games ARE adventures, and so is Tolkien's Lord of The Rings. At the end of those books, you really felt like you were on an epic journey. Everything that happens in any great andventure tale is predetermined, of course, but you empathise with the character's so much that you feel like you are adventuring together with them, that unexpected thinks are actually occurring to you The same goes for Zelda. But it is your own "suspension of disbelief" (and the power of the narration, game) that is doing the trick. You "trick" yourself in feeling the adventure through empathy. While in a videogame, with such an open approach, you can truly feel like it's your own journey and adventure when you feel totally in control of where to go, what to do, and how to approach anything. Choices mirror your personality, I love that so much. Also, thank you so much for the comment, and I'm sorry if my opinion made you upset, haha.

    it's interesting hearing someone who *really* prefers the BotW/TotK version of zelda over the classic version. personally, I got sick and tired of all the freedom and adventuring. it's not what I come to zelda for! it sounds like you try to understand why people prefer the older version, but don't really have a full understanding? you say older zelda doesn't feel like an adventure. it just feels like a theme park of an adventure! and I don't completely disagree, but here's how I think of it. it's not a theme park of an adventure, it's the story or legend of an adventure. BotW/TotK is an adventure. one where you're free to do whatever you wish whenever. you can also throw ALBW into that category. but the older zelda games aren't an adventure where you can do whatever you want. rather, they're the *story* or *legend* of an adventure. the dungeon's aren't theme-park rides, they're cool puzzle boxes you discover, and by solving the puzzles and challenges, you unlock more of the story, and more puzzles and challenges. the fun of older zelda isn't the adventure like it is in botw/totk. the fun of older zelda is the puzzles, and items, and story, and quests. the bad of older zelda was the fact that it got super linear, and formulaic to the point of Skyward Sword, and people were just getting tired of it. I think botw is a great palette cleanser, but I would love a return to form. even Skyward Sword, the worst offender, is still my favorite zelda game regardless. it is the old formula at it's best. but it appears like we're not getting a classic zelda game any time soon.. so I would have to rely on indie games.

    • @giulytsme
      @giulytsme 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      To be completely honest, I believe I do love the classic Zelda formula just the same! (As the big Zelda fan I am, hahaha) But you have a point, In a way, it is all about storytelling: Dungeons don't feel linear because they are an intricate (and amazingly well designed) 3D or 2D puzzle box, and, plotwise, they are there to challenge you, to make sure only a brave hero can get to the object they guard. Wich is kinda lost when you solve a dungeon by "breaking" it's rules with your own creativity. The classic Zelda formula is just so good! That being said, I can't but praise the developers for pushing the franchise into uncharted and fresh territory, after all, it is that same ambition and creativeness that made Nintendo create a revolutionary game like the first Zelda in the first place. And, as an aspiring game dev, I can feel how one might grow tired of a formula one created, as great as it might be. As far as Indie games, have you played "Super Dungeon Maker" ? It's basically a Zelda Maker and it's FANTASTIC! Also, thank you sooo much for the BNAGER comment! ♡♡♡

I've been watching the creator, Tianipixel, work on it for a while now! it looks so pretty and good. I worry about calling it a zelda-like game, but from everything I've heard, that's what it sounds like. Unsighted felt like a zelda game almost, although I want to be hesitant because it's not *really* a classic zelda game. it has dungeon items and abilities and bosses, but it's not built like a classic zelda game, the story and everything makes it feel like a queer rpg story! but it plays almost like a 2d zelda mixed with a beat-em-up. Abyss X Zero seems very anime and queer, and cyberpunk, and has dodge-rolling and movement platforming, but it also looks like it has "dungeons" and has a lot of zelda references.

      I would say the peak of classic Zelda formula was actually Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time era. The problem with post-WW games prior to BoTW and ToTK is that they started getting too linear and removing the magic system... like, with Ocarina of Time, the game starts off linear but then opens up a bit. After the three child dungeons, you have a bit more freedom as to what you do next, plus a lot of sidequests and such that give you the option of doing other things besides tackling the next dungeon, plus the Hyrule Field hub gives you a feeling of freedom... like the whole world is somewhat open even if not everything is available to do. It was perfect in that way. With Wind Waker, the ship gave you that same feeling of exploration and openness while still being somewhat linear, and you really do feel like you're exploring a wide-open sea and charting every sector. They had the perfect balance of being linear enough to tell a good story, but open enough that you had at least an illusion of control or multiple options for what to do next. Also, both games were the peak of magic meter use in Zelda games. Twilight Princess starts really putting the binders on, though... the Twilight as a barrier means the outdoor areas you go into are very obviously sectioned off from the rest of the world, and you have no magic, it's all about action. By the time we get to Skyward Sword, the outdoor areas before each dungeon are basically dungeons in themselves, and Skyloft is a very barren hub that doesn't make the world feel lived-in. Also, they're focusing more on stamina and movement and action-hero abilities rather than magic, so the game feels more like an actual Action-Adventure and not like an Action-RPG the way previous Zelda titles did. BoTW "fixed" the problem by making Zelda into even more of an action-adventure game, completely ruining the story and making it into an open-world game so much so that it feels almost like a single-player MMO rather than a real game. They basically took what was hot in the action-adventure genre at the time and shoved all that into a Zelda game... cooking, weapon damage, open-world design, etc... and just used it to spruce up Zelda IP in the most cynically business and money centered way I could imagine... and for 99% of people, it worked. They drew in so many new players who had only the most superficial idea of what Zelda was supposed to be, that they no longer had to cater to their older fans who didn't like open-world games and may have gone to Zelda to get away from stuff like Skyrim or Assassin's Creed that felt unsatisfying to a certain kind of person. I haven't played ToTK, but honestly it looks like it follows in BoTW's footsteps so I didn't think it was even worth buying... this game might actually be the first Zelda game I bother buying since the Link's Awakening remake, so it's fitting that it's in that style...

    It's called Echoes of Wisdom because Zelda represents the Triforce of Wisdom, also because you have to use your Wisdom more than anything to beat the game. Very clever name, I'll give them that

    Excited for this game most deffinitly. On a personal level I was hoping for other stuff from that direct, but at the very least this Zelda and the Dragon Quest 3 date + 1%2 reveal was nice news for me. It'll be a nice refreshing experience playing as Zelda and it seems to be more puzzle-exploration oriented, which can be fun. The whole using different elements to open the way seems interesting.
