But to be honest my bike just runs all around better with mostly original jetting. As you watched the video the only major thing I changed was the needle jet I changed out the original stainless 105 to a 106 needle jet with mostly everything else the same I did put smaller enrichner jet in I've tried a few different ones and the 35 and 40 both work nice mine originally had a 50 and you had to take the enrichment lever off rather quickly or it could foul plugs easily.

    That's going to be a great bike. That center stand spring can be a real PITA to put on. Did you connect the spring to the frame and the center stand, then pull the center stand back with ratchet to get it in place for the two bolts? If so, that might be a better than what I've been doing. I install the center stand first (with the 2 bolts)... then put the top of the spring on the frame lug. After that I attach a ratchet strap to the spring (with some wire) and crank the ratchet to stretch the spring far enough to clip onto the bottom of the center stand. Your method seems better, and safer.

      I heard about a technique to get the spring on by using 10 cent coins. You just stick a bunch between the coils of the spring and when you get enough in it makes the spring long enough to clip it in. Have not tried it myself, but saw that in another video. This ratchet method obviously works too.

    • @RobertJones-fq9dk
      @RobertJones-fq9dk 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I have used the coin method along with a “T” handled hook used for dirt bikes exhaust. Getting the hardware lined up while the spring is under tension with a ratchet strap seems a bit complicated and you said it took two of you. I’ve done this job alone using coins and hook on both running bikes and frame up rebuilds.

    The 1970 onwards the triumphs have a 3124 cam on inlet and exhaust. Unlike the original preunit Bonnie which had a 3124 inlet and 3325 exhaust cam. When you set the cams to T120 seting the inlet cam one tooth advanced that advances the cam 13degrees ahead and increases the exhaust -inlet valve overlap which is fine when the 3325 exhaust cam is used. So the not TR6/T120 setting is better and is hence making more power and torque in the blue bike. To rectify the Bonnie you need to use the vernier cam centers and time the Bonnie with 105 degrees exhaust lobe centres and then the bike will perform. My information of the cams comes from triumph twins by Roy bacon and I follow Mr Pete (Rip)on Brit bike forum 🙏🏻

Seems that someone forgot to put the aluminun crush washers under the 6 allen head rocker box screws? It appears to me that where the "inspection caps" are in the back of the rocker boxes, on both, intake and exhaust boxes you added a hexagon plug with hose coming out of the hexagon bolt??? Is this a breather you added for the intake and exhaust rocker boxes??? My friend, Brandon at Steadfast Cycles told me that all Tridents are prone to leaky rocker boxes and you will NEVER solve the leaky rocker boxes UNLESS to add a breather to each rocker box???? how many turns out on airscrew? what spark plugs?

    • @jessesvintagegarage765
      @jessesvintagegarage765 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The air screws can be anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 turns out on Amal Mk2 carburetors it generally relates to the pilot jet size. We have number 25 pilot jets and air screws are approximately 2 turns out. Turning the air screw in for rich and out leans it. So if your engine gets it's highest running with the air screws less than 1.5 turns you need a bigger pilot jet if the highest idle is over 2.5 turns you need a smaller pilot jet it should idle well at 1000 rpm at around 2 turns out also sometimes popping can occur on the over run while decelerating is caused by leaness so turning the air screws in by an 1/8 to 1/4 turn usually clears that up. All 78 and later T140E with parallel ported heads with Mk2 carburetors need a hotter plug or fouling occurs. RN5C champion or BR6ES NGK plugs are the correct size you don't need the R plugs but it's getting hard to find non resistor spark plugs and R plugs work just fine.

      @@QuiltingJeri sure would in fact I needed a second transmission case for my 56 pan and got the same part for that bike, this transmission case is excellent and the parts went right in and worked as you can see in this video, but I am working on a new video on the 40 and I have rode it a couple times and the transmission functions great as well,

    And thread sealant on those Allen screws, Medium strength 542 or similar and dont retorque them. That breaks the seal and they could then leak anyway

    That's how you bend side stands...

      Well, kick starting a bike with the kick stand down is fine if you aren't standing on the rider pegs and kicking, putting all your weight and the bikes weight on the side stand while kicking! I always hold the bike while standing on the ground and kick. To me, the side stand is down for a safety measure against having the bike accidentally falling over while kicking.

    I was always told that copper gaskets have to be annealed (by heating them and then quenching them in cold water) so they will be soft enough to form to the mating surfaces. Do you have some reason for not doing this on the rocker box gaskets? Or is this only necessary for the Head gasket? I’m surprised you had those other gaskets fall apart like that. Definitely not satisfactory in my book! I’m currently rebuilding a 1974 Trident top end for a friend of mine after having the head refurbished with new guides, Black Diamond valves, exhaust ports worked, new rings on the standard pistons, honing the bore, etc. The head was in a sorry state, but the pistons and bores are well within tolerance. I watched you installing the rockers on this bike a while back and I noticed you didn't seem to follow the tightening sequence. Possibly this is a factor in your leakage woes?

    Your issue with the Bonneville could be the balance between the carbies. I had a 1974 750 Bonnie and later a Tiger 750, which seemed to run a lot smoother than the Bonnie and I believe that was due to the balance between the carbs being ‘off’. I owned two tridents, a 1969 T150 and a 1975 T160 and I have a soft spot for them. They were and are very special machines, that sound like no other motorcycle, ever.

    I was always taught that we should tighten the screws in a cross pattern, where your second bolt is diagonally opposite the first, then back and forth as you work your way around. I guess that’s not so important with only tightening each bolt one turn at a time?

      Well the guy that my father was helping years ago at the Triumph dealership showed and taught him the same way that we did this clutch, he had told him it was best way not to warp anything taking it apart or putting it back together when it came to clutches like these.

    I know this is old but you are solving a problem I did not know. I am replacing the clutch on my 1973 Norton. I noticed oil on the plates and hardly any trans oil. Thanks for the time and effort you have put in you videos. Its helping some one out there. To day thats me.
