GROUP vs SOLO Motorcycle RIDES: Which ADVENTURE Suits You?"
Group motorcycle rides offer camaraderie, shared experiences, and increased safety through visibility and mutual support. However, they require coordination, compromise, and adherence to group rules. Solo rides, on the other hand, provide freedom, flexibility, and the ability to set your own pace and route, but lack the safety net and social interaction of a group. Both styles have unique advantages, catering to different preferences and riding goals.

A 2007 Classic LT is our 2 up big touring bike. After years of taking long trips (week long 1400 mile camping trips) on our Suzuki TUx 250 my wife decided that we needed something with more passenger leg room. I’ve been riding since the 1970s, but most of my bikes have been in the 400-500 cc range, and the Vulcan seemed very long, very heavy, and very slow revving. After a couple of trips I’ve learned how to ride (I don’t bounce off the rev limiter every time I shift) cruisers much better, and the 900 is a pretty good ride. Brakes could be better when loaded, the bags are smaller than I’m used to. The tank mounted speedometer limits the size of the tank bag that can be fitted. The stock seat was miserable after a couple of hours. It certainly is not a good bike for curve carving or exploring dirt trails. On my own I still prefer to tour on the Suzuki, which can do both. But having said that, the Vulcan has proven to be a comfortable (with a Mustang seat), reliable, economical touring bike. It is exactly as advertised: a touring bike for those of us not interested in riding a two wheeled Winnebago! Once I have pushed it out of the garage and gotten out on the road it’s an enjoyable ride. For the price nothing else on the market comes even close!

How do you find the rear shocks and seat? I’m older with slight back issues and riding can be a little jarring at times. I haven’t been on a cruiser in over 15 years and I wonder if I’d be able to take it. I’ve been riding upright standard and adventure bikes but I’m looking to get a little lower to the ground.

900cc is plenty big enough for touring. All touring motorcycles don't need 100+ horsepower. If it can cruise all day at 75mph and get up and go to pass a truck it's plenty fine. My all time favorite all around bike, both commuting and touring was a 1975 Honda 550 Four with a handlebar mounted fairing. With a passenger and luggage it did all it was supposed to do in comfort.

My 2011 vn900 is modified larger front pulley , smaller back pulley , a 200 rear tire ! The speedometer reads 5 MPH lower than the actual speed ! Also have 2 into one header , larger air cleaner and fuel managment ! So what rpms does your vn900 run at 70 MPH ! Before I did the modsto my bike at 65-70 MPH she felt like the rpms were so high she was going to fly apart , way to high RPMs like 3000 or more , like passing gear when it is about to shift to high gear but that all there is ! I was very disappointed before I moded my vn900 , now she is just adequate ! I was spoiled by my 74 CB 750K that was modified before I got it 4 into 1 headers needles all the way up air cleaner solid swingarm bushings S&W shocks , 60/70 fork springs / 30 sae oil in the front shocks continental super twin tires ( bragged 4G stopping power , they did stop very well ) , that was 1984 , she was one of the fastest bikes stock mine was much lighter and a little more powerful @ 120 MPH she still had throttle left ! And she could get there fast and slow down fast ! Did not to bad on dirt roads to !

Two different types of engines too. Vulcan 650 is probably faster but doesn’t have the grunt the V twin will have. 650 is a good machine though. My buddy has rode one for years. But longer rides just kill him on it. And he struggles to keep up with my Harley on the highway. If it was me I’d rather have the Vulcan 900 custom over the 650. The custom is the more sporty looking 900. But if you want bags and stuff then go for the classic. If you wanna take longer rides or road trips you will outgrow the 650 Vulcan really fast

And - it has stone axe reliability at half the cost of an American tourer - just make sure you get the Ivan tune which is an absolute must for improved engine response. Congrats on buying the Voyager and getting the Ivan tune. It is interesting about your issue with your left knee. I used to ride a Victory Vision but sold it because it sat too low to the ground. I am quite a bit older than you and also a bit taller, plus I found myself needing to ride off pavement more often. I ended up with a BMW R1200 GS Adventure. I have an artificial right knee which has not been a problem and the left knee is perfect for my age. The adventure bikes are not pegged as far back as most sport tourers and you sit more upright. For me, I could easily flat foot the BMW but have much more mechanical advantage holding it up at a stop, while maintaining a low center of gravity, which I loved about my old Victory. I am putting highway pegs on my crash bars so I can occasionally stretch out a bit, but have found the riding position much better for my lower back. At 600lbs with full kit and luggage, it is much easier to throw around. At the same time, it is great in windy or other contrary weather situations. It just goes to show how different everyone's biomechanics operate. However, if I were to go back to a traditional tourer, the Vulcan Voyager would be right up there. You made a great choice on a great motorcycle!

I am tall at 6'4" and of a wide build at 280lbs. We live in South Dakota where the speed limits on secondary roads are 65 and 80 on the interstates. She has no problem keeping up with the pack and many times we follow her. I ride the Vulcan occasionally and find it very easy and relaxing. Exactly the type of video to help someone decide the bike to buy. I have the regular Classic with about 12000 miles now. I ride the same way you do. Took a 40 year break from riding, my last bike being a 67 Moto Guzi V7 bagger. I'm 74 now and had to keep the weight manageable, yet still get out on the open road and keep up with traffic . Took it to Texas last fall where the speed limit is 75-80 on most roads and had no issues! I do have lowers which solved the helmet buffeting at high speeds. Grip puppies and a throttle lock and palm rest all help with throttle hand fatigue. Took it in the mountains in the Ozarks last month and shined up the bottom of the floor boards. Recent Shinko 777 tires stick like glue in the curves. Bottom line , this bike is as near perfect for all around riding at a reasonable price.

I have a 2007 Vulcan 900 had it 3 yrs now and love it ,white walls and chrome . I am currently looking at a gently used Vaquero or Voyager , Thanks for a great review ,you have done a great job explaining the ride and the bike in general so thank you .I'm liking it even more now. When I get mine I will take it for a ride from Toronto to Florida on it and park it at my winter place , to cold to ride here in the winter ,I'll keep my 900 in Toronto for the summer . Cheers from Toronto .
