Cooper's Hawk in the Fountain
Apologies for the very poor quality video taken inside the house with my phone. The Cooper's visited the yard for about an hour before taking to the fountain. Needless to say, things were very quiet while it was there!

White-faced Ibis, Canada Goose, Belding's and Large-billed Savannah Sparrows, a female Merlin, Sora, and Common Yellowthroat are featured in this 3.5-minute video. The location, San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve in Solana Beach, California. The photo ops were great, but the situation is unfortunate for the birds and other animals that rely on the low-growing shrubs, grasses and reeds that hav...
Falcons - Aerodynamic Elegance
มุมมอง 577หลายเดือนก่อน
This video highlights three species of falcon in the genus Falco that are regularly seen along coastal San Diego County. Falcons (Falconidae), while superficially similar to other birds of prey such as hawks and eagles (Accipitridae), are not closely related. Anatomical and DNA evidence suggest that falcons are more closely related to parrots and songbirds. The three species mentioned in this v...

Hawk of the Marshlands - Northern Harrier (Marsh Hawk)
มุมมอง 659หลายเดือนก่อน
Northern Harriers (formerly Marsh Hawks) are unique in that the adults have plumage dimorphism, i.e., males are gray, and females are brown. Northern Harriers nest on the ground. Once upon a time these beautiful hawks were more common and widespread throughout San Diego County. The photos of the Northern Harriers in this video were taken at San Elijo Lagoon and Ecological Reserve in Solana Beac...

Winged Iridescence - Anna's and Allen's hummingbirds

Our two most common year-round hummingbird species in coastal San Diego County are Anna's and Allen's. Hummingbirds are endlessly fascinating. So many adaptations, too many to even casually mention. But everyone can enjoy their beauty at fairly close range with feeders and nectar-producing plants in the garden. Just having fun with this video to put you in the Halloween spirit. As Béla Lugosi, in the 1931 movie version of Dracula, said "Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make." Forest Chorus - Birds of Central California's Mixed Forests
มุมมอง 1902 หลายเดือนก่อน
On a recent trip to the central coast of California in late September, several species of birds were calling in the coastal forests. The constant peep-like twitter of Pygmy Nuthatches and the chick-a-dee call of the Chestnut-backed Chickadees were frequently heard. Hairy Woodpeckers were calling their short “peek” or “tweek.” The beautiful Steller’s Jays with their loud series of “chuckles” fil...

Late Summer Shorebirds

In this video, we look at a few shorebirds that were seen at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach (31 August) as well as the San Diego River (30 August). Hello,ahh...very lovely to see this!! Greetings Gijs 🤠🤠
Thanks Gijs! Nice of you to comment. Have a wonderful holiday season! 🌲🌴
Wow 🤩 Great capture❣️ Thank you 🙏
Love it--no apologies necessary!!
Thanks Finsirith! 😊😊
Beautiful
Thanks for watching again, Emy! ❤❤😊😊
I will post something more substantial in a few days! 😊
Thank you for sharing this information and the beautiful presentation of visuals and audio❣️
Thanks so much theck! I love photographing and making videos. I learn so much in the process. Thanks for watching! ❤😊
Thanks for this Jane, beautiful work as always. I appreciate your addressing the ecological effects of the lagoon closure on the lagoon-dependent birds.
Hi Viviane! Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I feel so bad for all the birds and other animals whose environment has been so altered. There were only a handful of shorebirds. Hardly any dry ground. Hope to see you along one of the lagoons! J
Thanks for this. I recently saw my first white-faced ibis. There was a whole flock of them foraging on lawns in the neighborhood of 4S Ranch. Now I want to go back to the lagoon before they dredge it.
You’re welcome Lenore. I was on Pole Road that parallels the railroad tracks. Part of the trail at the north end is already under water. Happy birding! 😊
your videos are so beautiful Jane especially for older people that are no longer able to walk very far. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the kind comment Susan! 😊😊😊 ❤❤❤
Gorgeous photos! What kind of camera was used?
Thanks Finsirith! I have a Sony mirrorless since 2021, but some of the older photos are from my Canon snapshot. A big boost is that I use Topaz Denoise to sharpen the images, that has really helped.
Nice and so beautiful video
Thanks so much for the lovely comment Sandip! 😊
Great presentation!

Did you see PBS Nature TV is doing a program on San Diego? It’s called something like San Diego Wildest City …
Hi theck! No, I didn’t know that. I will check it out. Thanks for letting me know! 😊 Jane
Thanks for mentioning the show! Some beautiful footage. They filmed throughout San Diego County which extends from the coast to about 70 miles to the inland desert, so the title is a bit misleading. But it was fun to see some familiar places. Thanks again for the heads up!
I’m happy you were able to see it!
Beautiful ❤Thank you❣️
wow, amazing you are getting better and better!
❤❤❤😊😊
Beautiful as ever
Thank you Maryellen! I need to delete this video, not sure how I posted twice! Thanks for watching! 😊😊😊

Thanks Mütt! You probably know this tune all too well by now. 😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
What an absolute delight! Thank you for this stunning footage ❤🍁🍂🌿. Some regard thistles as bothersome weeds but use the seed mix with it lol .. silly
Thank you for the kind words ontariorubyreds! I was so surprised to see such a wonderful comment so quickly after posting! We have a lot of thistle out here, and yes, it is considered a weed. I was pleased to see the local birds feeding on the seeds! Take care, Jane
Love it!
Thank you Angie! ❤❤❤

I love the editing--the way the music picked up just as the bird went into "active pusuit" foraging mode. Well done!

all of your videos are so very beautiful, thank you.
Thank you so much Susan!❤
Just a note to correct something I wrote on the immature Little Blue Heron that is getting blue feathers. In that photo in April, it's about 1-year-old and in its second calendar year.

Bushtits! I heard their sounds on my evening walk today, and looked up to see their straggling flock moving from yard to yard!
