2005 Sea Doo RXP 215 Low 12 Volt warning ⚠️

Customer brought in a 2005 RXP with a bad battery before. The battery was replaced, and the harness, fuse holders, stator windings, and regulator were all checked before, but sometimes you have to wait and be patient, bad electrical charging connections will always show their face. this one finally did, and it wasn't what I expected, considering it looked "normal" the last time! 45 minutes of r...

    Hello, I greet you, I have a question for you. I have the same engine in a jet ski inflatable boat, but ours just shuts off when it's warm and we didn't tell you what it could be. It was built in 1992. I would be happy if you would write back

      I would check the kill switch. I did have trouble with mine at one time. It would just shut off like you pulled out the wrist lanyard. I took the switch pod apart, removed the screw ring holding the switch together, and clean copper contacts. Spray some lube in it before reassembly.

    The original spider injection is, in -fact, a multi-port injection system (NOT central port, like a TBI) as it has an individual injector for each cylinder inside the fuel injector body, which is controlled in time for each piston by the PCM. I wouldn't recommend the conversion to the lower injectors as you WILL, without a doubt, lose power and idle quality vs. a proper functioning spider injection system, every time. It might be better than what you had before, because you had a problem before, but that doesn't mean its the correct solution. The injectors and their connectors will hinder airflow inside the manifold costing horsepower at higher RPMs as well as reducing manifold volume costing low-end torque. A replacement original spider injection is the best bet, and will have it running its best. People who promote the conversion aren't really bright enough to think through the consequences. Additionally, injector timing will become off, because the PCM is programed to account for the time it takes the injector to pressurize the line and open the poppet valve. When you move the injector location, the timing becomes off unless you reprogram the PCM. And furthermore, there is a reason they did what they did by placing poppet valves down in the heat zone, instead of the injectors, the injectors last forever that way. Ive seen a bazillion of these with 300k miles or more with the original injection setup. Usually what happens is the fuel pressure regulator goes bad, and when people replace the whole unit it comes with a new FPR which actually fixes the problem, but the actual reason why is unknown to them.... when all they had to do was change the FPR in the first place and leave the injection system alone, as these virtually never have problems, unless you don't periodically run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it like you're supposed to do with all vehicles anyway.

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like 2 different problems in one bag. The bog is most likely the air cleaner top isn't sealed, diaphram in carb is ripped/old/distorted, fuel pump is crapping out, or it has an aftermarket china carb. Def pull a leg, it's the only way.....

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know if it's an 80 gallon tank? Walbro fuel pumps show just about all of them. The problem I have found, is that the coach models are listed as 2000+ year models but the chassis themselves are older than that. That is the primary reason it is so hard to track them down. Most are listed as 98-99 year model chassis. I would have to look around really well.

  • @tangy3440

    Great video-my exact problem. So am I hearing right-it was the battery that was in need of replacement bc it would not accept more than 11.6v, or a bad fuse??

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery needed to be replaced because it primarily was a cheap battery with low CCA. It had been discharged so many times from the ski being ridden and the bad fuse holder not supplying voltage back into it. This guy was lucky because he was packing around a 1,000 amp Noco lithium jump pack, and everytime the ski wouldn't start after being out on the water for minutes on end, he would just jump it.

    Mine was burning out the volt regulators, spent a lot of money trying different brands nothing worked. So I installed one from a 2014 yamaha 450f dirtbike same setup just needing to have different ends. I used it because it has newer hardware than my 2002 regulators, but didn't work so I decided I'll buy a more expensive stator could be the problem. Well when I took off the cover to the stator the flywheel/magneto had the magnets detaching from the walls of it, causing it to fray wires off the stator making it ground to the case. So new flywheel fixed my issues could be the problem to some peoples machines.

    It is 5 years later and I had the problem with parking break failure. here are some things to know. 1) if you can hear the mechanics if the auto park brake working with the engine off and just in accessory and just shifting from P to N - then it is good. 2) depending on how far/hard you have to push the manual parking brake consider alternatives to brake shoes 3) be prepared to chase tail shaft seals if you pull the brake drum. Here is a hint there are 2 SIZES of tail shaft seals! 46mm and 54mm. Chances are you will not get the right one the first time.or second or 3rd! When you pull the seal take it straight to the chevy dealer, do not pass go. I use NAPA and they gave me 3 different sizes and they ALL were to small and that was going by the book! The Chevy deazler happened to have an old P30 mechanic on duty and he came up, laughed and said the average mechanic would call it a tail shaft seal the media calls it a shaft seal and there are 2 sizes for sure. Cost in April 2023 is $43 with tax from the dealer and take 2 days to get since they do not stock any longer on site. 4) they are 13 inch brake shoes 5) replace the brake kit at the same time no matter what cost in 2023 at NAPA $7.50 6) OK now back to the first thing to check after the manual and auto brakes THE BRAKE CABLES! It cost me $700 (so far) for a mobile home repair company to come out just to get the assembly apart. Only to discover there was nothing wrong with the shoes (it is 2023 and the coach was made on 04/97 and it only has an actual 12,589 miles on it. It was an ARMY communication center and not it is our volunteer fire department communication center thus the low miles) The problem is the ONLY way you can check the cables is by tearing the whole thing apart from the get go. (you have to go inside the drum to replace the cable to emergency brake cables) Now you can try and get the correct parts depending on the year all I can say is good luck. JEGS sells an kit of universal cables that include everything you need for $112 plus shipping and takes 2 to 3 days. 7) please understand there is NOT JUST 1 BRAKE CABLE. There are actually 2 - 1 from the foot break and 1 from the auto park break they both feed to a T assembly that sends a single cable to the brake system so either can set the brake. Bottom line is if you need to repair your parking break on a P30 replace everything since you have it all apart. If you have the tools and skills to do it you are looking at less than $200 in part and shipping. If you are having a mobile mechanic do it (like I had to, since I only have 1 usable arm) you are looking at around $1000 (@ $150 per hour) and you getting all the parts. As an old traveler and former mechanic PLEASE do it right the first time. It is you and your traveling companion(s) in that coach you have to think about and your going to have it apart all the way even if you are just changing the shoes, the extra $7.50 for the entire spring and attachment kit and the seal at $43 are a hell of a safety net for future repairs

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang man, you had it rough for sure. I worked most of these customer issues out myself, the local truck shops frowned at these chassis and that's how I got this one. We do have a local RV place, but they were ABSOLUTELY clueless on what and where to go to. I have worked on heavy trucks my while life. I also have procured and resourced parts my whole career. For the RV owner, it's really the same.... I agree with you 100%, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Most issues with auto park have been pressure switches and engagement cylinder leaks. Brake shoe sneaky links are just one thing I came across from OEREMY and that guy is a LEGEND out West.

      @davidvincent1093 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kennyschopperz Hated to ramble on but these older coaches are still in cherry shape and people like me love them but parts are harder and harder to get. I am just an old school mechanic like you said if it ain't broke don't fix it, but if it is do it right so you don't have to do it over and over. This is the first time I have ever had problems with auto brake on any of my coaches or the fire departments coaches. And who would ever think of looking at a metal cable? You expect spedo cables to break over time, but a parking brake? Who knew. Maybe someone will see you video and my posting and they will think a bit before tackling the job and do their research. Sadly as a Chief of a volunteer department without a heavy mechanic or any mechanic for that matter it is up to me. And yes I have 2 arms but the right one has become useless with old age and the most I can lift it is 90 degrees to my shoulder and the grip is almost gone (but Vietnam had a lot to do with that) Please re-post your video again it has been 5 years and I am sure there are more people out there like me that could use your advice . • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was in fact, an 80 gallon tank. I have gotten some negative feedback from not video'ing the thing. But anyone who has done this can tell you, that you are NOT getting a camera, or much of your arms in there LOL!! It is funny that these 8.1L engines are so sensitive to just a 10 PSI drop in fuel pressure on the open road. I have also done his ignition switch accessory circuit bypass modification. I recently did his a/c system as well. He had said that it didn't work very well since he owned it. So after topping off his freon, I noticed that his "max air" function wasn't shutting the blend door to the outside of the coach. His vacuum line had dry rotted and was leaking. Vacuum line is backordered everywhere right now, especially the plastic kind. So I took a small cut piece of of 2x4 and wedged it shut from inside the coach to keep it shut from the outside air. His compressor was also overheating in the recent 110* index air. So I insulated his suction line from the evap, back to the compressor. He also had a tranny cooler fan bad, and a battery isolator solenoid fuse bad. I really hate that I didn't video any of it, but I was on a tight schedule. He said the a/c hasn't worked that well in the 10 years he has owned it.

      I read somewhere during my research, that the MFD gets the tach reference from the #1 stator winding. Most bikes get it from the ignitor coil, and thus, knows its exact RPM reference. But for some reason, the company that made the MFD's for Polaris, used the AC voltage output from the 1st coil winding, to represent RPM, and it does work, I just don't know how instantly accurate it is, but either way, it's a start for ya. So....are you making TOO much voltage?

    Great info. Im looking at buying a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500HO. The bike is super clean. Friend of mine owns it and he told me the only issue he is having is its overcharging. Can I speak or email with you for some feedback?

  • @tylercapece138
    @tylercapece138 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you sure there's not a separate regulator/rectifier? Our 06 500 HO has one in front of the radiator.

      They quit running external regs after 2002

      Upon further digging, you're right. The forum said that was my issue, but I tore into it, and the 500 doesn't have one. I don't have any other issues, and the tach still works, but I'm getting about 16 to 17 volts while running. Will pulling a leg damage the stator? The only extras I have are the triple headlight mod (pod and duals both on on high) and a winch.

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pull one leg, you will be running 5/8 wave charging, the main thing is overcharging won't be an issue. However, under charging with your lights running could become an issue, and the regulator is gonna pull everything the 2 windings in the stator can put out. So be aware, ultimately, the stator may not make it after a while. BUT be mindful that was most likely the issue, to begin with.

  • @brianalonso8394
    @brianalonso8394 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having the same issue. Can you make a video on how to do away with the 3rd leg of the stator please.

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where the yellow wires with spades from the stator harness connect to the control unit plug, just unplug one of the yellows, it DOES NOT matter which yellow you unplug. The rectification process in the unit is still going to turn AC voltage to DC voltage. But instead of FULL wave charging, you will be limited to lower amps, still enough power for you lighting, winch, and fan on the bike, but accessories like sprayers, spreaders, or high amp draw items (my dads bike has a winch, it works just fine) will be harder on the stator after this mod, so be sure and use a deep cycle battery to power attachments instead of using the bike to power them :-)

    Getting ready to do this to my 97’. New intake manifold. MSD distributor. Will be doing more mods to make sure it runs fine for a long time. Was my pawpaws truck. Putting money into it to restore it. I was with him when he bought it new and we have a lot of memories in it

    Hey Kenny, Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Wife and I just purchased an '07 National Dolphin on a Workhorse W22 chassis, so I'm hammering the TH-cam sites for all videos on W22. I can't fine oeremy.com, are they still around? Thanks.

    A GM 228 (1969 Impala rear brake shoe) works too and it's bonded versus having rivets

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right. I have had better luck with the riveted shoe frame, because it is a little thicker and I think it lasts a little longer due to the fact it can hold stronger naturally due to the thicker frame work. Nothing lasts if the brake is left on tho LOL!!

    why can I just use an electric fuel pump along the way and keep it from stalling. I am having hell with mine.. Whats the part number?

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can if you can figure out a way to plumb it. There are some guys that have done it that way. It is however, a pain either way to do on the side of the interstate, or on the side of a mountain. You need the pump that matches your fuel tank capacity. There was a 12" tall assembly for the 35-55 gallon tank. Or the 15" tall pump assembly for the 60-80 gallon tanks. FG0064 is the genuine Delphi unit for the Workhorse chassis with a 80 gallon tank. Oemy's web site is a great resource.

    I was wondering this because my auto park cylender is locked up but the foot break works..the both are hooked to the same break drum set up...ive seen alot of stories about the auto park comming on at 60 klm ..its my first motorhome i just bought it.1992 34 foot fleetwood.

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The auto park cylinder uses a poly pack seal ($7). Most hydraulic stores stock and sell them. I have repaired several. There isn't a lot of information on them, much less the stealerships will charge you the price of your first born to "rebuild" (and I quote that VERY sarcastically!!) them! It takes longer to remove the cylinder, than it does to disassemble and replace the seal. Auto park is very reliable if it's maintained. Putting in a lever type parking brake works pretty well, but I have found in the few I have converted, that it DOES NOT hold as well as the hydraulic version (obviously). If you decided to convert, I highly suggest you invest in some commercial grade rubber wheel chalks. Not the stupid plastic ones like I see WAY too often. I wouldn't chalk my lawn mower with those plastic ones......but I see people using them on campers that gross 7K# plus all the time. Just like the guy that brought over his camper last night to my house, I didn't say anything, but shook my head when he was out of sight.

    • @kennyschopperz
      @kennyschopperz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The foot brake is only an emergency back-up to the brake drum, I have tightened the cable on a 1997 land yacht before, and it did pretty decent, but by far NOT what I would use on the daily unless you can REALLY get a good adjustment on the foot brake cable, your legs are stronger than your arms (push harder than you can pull). But what ends up happening from what I have been told, is that the teeth on the locking jaw of the foot brake wears out over time, and won't hold/lock anymore.
