    I'm a bit conflicted by this because I could do this voluntarily with my vision if I found myself bored in class. If im doing all these visuals intentionally ( meaning I can be fully out of focus, floating, haloing, and bringing it back to complete clarity by choice ) is it still considering IS?

    Oh, that's funny I was coming back to comment, and look what I wrote six years ago, just below! The most relevant examples in the video are Floating the Swirl, seesaws, Shakey, and Wavey but not all together and not so extreme.

    I get mostly the "Ripple effect" I have had it since childhood but didn't get diagnosed until I was about 50 years old. I only found out because my son had issues, and then I got tested. I found that by using different color plastic overlays on pages of books or especially glossy white paper it helped a great deal. Then I found out that it is not an eye condition, but a way the brain sees things, especially words and numbers. It gets worse and worse the more tired I get. I eventually found out that I could get specially tinted prescription glasses that helped a great deal. I also ordered them in frames that are often used for safety glasses that cut out the light from the sides. I could only read about 4 or 5 pages in a book before I had to stop for a few minutes in between, whereas my sister could read a 300 page book in a few evenings. Many people still don't acknowledge this condition, but those of us who have it sure know.

    • @DemonRevengeSpirits
      @DemonRevengeSpirits 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Migraines often occur in the morning especially migraines with aura, ligh sensitivity is also associated with migraines, if it is a daily problem with vision since early school days with what was shown in the video, you might have this condition, there are specialists that can test for this as well.

    An issue I have with this video is that it portrays Irlen syndrome as merely seeing blurry/moving letters while reading, and that it affects mainly children. That may turn away people who can't relate to that, but do otherwise show many other symptoms - sensitivity to light, issues with reading except the letters look normal, attention problems, unexplained fatigue especially during activities focused on visual perception, unexplained headaches/migraines, issues with depth perception and motor coordination, etc. The issue with letters dancing/moving/being blurry is common in those with Irlen syndrome, but it's not a necessary symptom to qualify for a diagnosis. There are better resources on this online. Personally I don't experience any kind of visual distortions, but I was referred to testing due to my extreme sensitivity to light, issues with attention, unexplained migraines, and trouble reading but for the reason that it makes me tired and gives me headaches. If you experience similar issues with no other explanation for it, or you do have a diagnosis that should explain it (ADHD, autism, learning disorders, etc as explained in the video) but your indicated treatment isn't helping you, it might be worth looking more deeply into this and possibly getting tested by a professional.

    I was diagnosed with Irlen Syndrome when I was ten, and I am now twenty-seven. When I read large blocks of text, usually black on a white background, I see the burriness, the rivers, and the washout. In this video they are very overly exaggerated, but the reality of them are still hard to deal with all the same. I tend to tell professors and bosses that I am "dyslexic" or that I simply just have a learning/reading disability so that they might be more understanding of why I might not understand something in writing or just read so slowly, rather than explaining the complexity of my condition. I think that this video is very informative and has probably helped a lot of people who are like me but have never gotten the opprotunity to be properly diagnosed.

    For me the words can blur, slightly move back and forth. As well as light flickering around words. A white highlight behind words. Recently some random letters bolded throughout twi sentences. My glasses have made huge improvements except recently I got the wrong colours. So now I'm queezy again, through the day. Heachaches. Tired.

    Im so happy to know this is an actual thing.. I had a coworker say something shady about people who don't read books when telling another person that i hate reading, and I felt awful. I can read well, was in AP English all through high school, its just very stressful looking at a wall of text- more so on paper.

    Who knew “shaking” and “blurry” words wasn’t an eye issue. I’ve been to countless doctors who have sent me to the optometrist and countless optometrists who have prescribed glasses that have never worked. It is incredibly frustrating that doctors don’t seem to know much about health. Every single one of the mental and health issues I have, I have found on Facebook support groups or in TH-cam. Every single time I go back to said “doctors” with a printed diagnosis and the right testing just to confirm, then, I am typically left trying to figure out the right medication or dosage because they can’t even do that. I have seen over 80 doctors and it has been the exact same experience. The healthcare system is a money making machine useless to the patients.

    • @Irleninstitute
      @Irleninstitute ปีที่แล้ว

      Irlen Spectral Filter wearers receive a full diagnostic report from their Irlen Diagnostician that can be submitted to the school or workplace as required documentation to support the need of the assistive technology. Irlen Spectral Filters are not sunglasses, and if necessary, may be added to a child's 504 plan or IEP to ensure use in the school environment is not prevented.

Only when I coincidentally purchased colored sunglasses and began to improve in my general well being did I start to question. Why do my sunglasses make me feel.... SO GOOD! I LOVE THEM! I'm so glad it's a real thing!!! Should I get diagnosed? Does it matter?

    • @Irleninstitute
      @Irleninstitute ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi DJ! Yes, you should definitely get a formal assessment for Irlen Syndrome. Your brain is working overtime to try and process visual information (and it's overworking anytime your eyes are open, not just when you're in the sun, or trying to read!). Chronic stress on the brain can affect the autonomic nervous system and really impact your physical well-being, not just what you see. With individualized, precision-tinted spectral filters, you won't see the world colored through them (like you do with your colored sunglasses), and they won't make anything dimmer like sunglasses do. It's a whole new world! You can learn more at www.irlen.com

    Irlen affects me in an unusual way. As I read, the letters seem to move off the the right (I always likened it to a marching band). If I read faster to catch the letters up, they speed up even more to the point where I am not taking in the meaning of the words anymore. Anyone else have this? Caused me massive problems when studying, until I started doing oral notes instead of written. At school I was beaten by teachers countless times for not doing homework (it was the 70's and beatings were not unusual).

    Girlfriend told me that she's pretty sure she has this and showed this video to me. The floating words part hit me like a brick, because I've been dealing with that my whole life. I don't know why I never really felt the need to externalize and tell others about it, since I didn't exactly think it was _normal,_ just that I didn't really have the words to explain it and didn't think it was serious enough to bring up. Finding out that there's a name for it and a way to treat it is mind-boggling.

      I was working as an instructional aid for a special needs high school student who had a class specifically for helping her with homework. One day, the teacher for that class brought in color overlays. I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, so I asked if I could try the smokey-blue overlay. Holy cow! The words stopped moving!!! It was pretty amazing. She let me have that one, but that was nearly 20 years ago. I've ordered a set of overlays now, for myself and possibly my niece. Hopefully, we're turn her into a reader yet.

    I live with both irlen syndrome and dyslexia, growing up I was called lazy and or stupid because I didn't read at the same level as my classmates. My Pop's had trouble reading and writing, he said it hurt his eyes and got headaches. I currently wear reading glasses with a prism lens so that I don't see the pages like one of Picasso's painting, I'll look into getting colored lenses as well. I've had a number of head injuries, one of those injuries I was unconscious for four days, the foster parent hit me with a maul handle and a few other things. I waited for karma to get her, suffer she did in the end, I didn't even go to her funeral. Anyway if I get the colored lenses I won't have to carry overlay sheets with me everywhere.
