Today I am sharpening my unnamed fixed blade made by Deep Cuts Cutlery. This knife is in some excellent thin, hard CruWear. The stones I use are the Venev resin bonded diamond with Stroppy Stuff honing oil, and finished on Stroppy Stuff 1 micron diamond compound.
Hurricane Sharpening Session | WE Swordfin Minimal Sharpening

With the hurricane Helene having just swept through South Carolina, I am without power or things to do, so I came outside and did a little sharpening. This is a very impromptu session with minimal equipment and setup. I use only the Spyderco Golden stone, Spyderco ultra fine ceramic, and a leather strop to put a new edge on my WE Swordfin.

The Blade is Great, but the Handle... | Benchmade Redoubt Review

The Blade is Great, but the Handle... | Benchmade Redoubt Review
Aren't you supposed to use cloth because paper towels are made of wood, therefore they are abrasive. And will scratch your blade.
Sure you could, but I have never had an issue. I do actually usually use little cloth gun cleaning patches, just because they are small and cheap.
Most comprehensive strop video I've seen. Thank you sir for your work.
Really glad you enjoyed, and thanks for the kind words 🙏
Great video man. Narration on what you're doing and why is helpful. Including pressure info and showing burr removal in detail is something that many gloss over and you're right, besides apexing it is the most important thing. Question. When you raised your angle during deburring, were you feeling it just bump up against the roughness or did you fully leave the bevel smoothness feel? Subbed and thanks for the content.
You want to raise only the minimum amount needed to ensure you are hitting the apex. About a degree usually does the trick. The feel should change slightly. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed 🙏
Great video! I have the same M4 Shaman as well as the treerex version. I also have twelve pm2's so I think you make the right conclusions!
Lol that's awesome thanks for watching 🙏 What's your favorite PM2?
Although I am a steel snob I think that you could replace all of the steels with 12C and I wouldn't notice. For style I like the crucarta that I swapped the scales with a AWT scales and Rockscale backspacer. Thanks for your "heart"!
Very cool build 😎
I really want one. Classic design with the arcane touch. Great video my man! Very detailed.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed 🙏
Cool knife
Yes agreed 💯🙏
This is the best review about the Bit Bar Inline so far that I have seen on TH-cam
Thank you my friend 🙏 glad you enjoyed
Nice👍stonewashed or service finish?
This one is Stone washed
great 👍 Thanks
Excellent video
Thank you 👍
Im becoming a huge fan of Spyderco's cbn. Its the perfect finish for high carbide steels.
I'm excited to try it out! I'm thinking about slapping that Rexy Sage on it
Cpm D2 and f400 is a match made in heaven.
Thanks for the tip bro I'll have to try that next time!
Merry Christmas Nocturne !!!!
Thanks buddy same to you 😊
The sharpness of the Rex 121…..too be honest….is very sub par for Spyderco….I lost the use of an eye and my hand and cannot sharpen or even strop a blade today….I wish I knew someone who could put a great edge on mine….until then it just sits in a drawer 😢
You might be able to use a Worksharp Precision Adjust with a bit of setup to keep it from moving around, I use mine with one hand holding the stone and the other holding the base.
Sad to hear that! I bet you could strop with one hand, if the strop was set on a non-slip mat. Anyway, message me on Instagram instagram.com/nocturneknives?igsh=NzBxY29nMHltNzl4 I may be able to help you out.
Howdy young man….if you get some scales for a Mule…..you may become addicted to them….they come razor sharp in all kinds of steel types….bargains!!!….and kudos to Spyderco to keep making them exactly the same and trying new steels. Have fun!
Yes I actually have an old mule in S110V! Very cool project spyderco does, I agree. Thanks for watching 🙏
Great review ❤
Thank you my friend 🙏
So how much do you charge it I mail you mine? LOL. But really.
Very good video. I mostly use a spyderco sharpmaker with various additional grit rods but even at that I learned some great tips from your demo. Thanks!
Hey brother thanks for watching 🙏 glad you got something good from it
Do you still anodize these? I have one and like the look.
I am not currently. If you want good work done though checkout my friend Shiny EDC on Instagram.
Cant find this blade anywhere
Yes it's discontinued. You'll have to find one on the secondary market
2024 still waiting :'( did score a like new sage 1 atleast.
Sweet!
I have the shaman, the paramilitary 2 is slightly illegal where I live
How is the Shaman legal but PM2 not?
@NocturneKnives it's actually not I thought it was 3.5 where I lived but it's 4, but if you're driving between states it's something to be mindful of
Always a pleasure to sharpen well heat treated Cruwear. Definitely one of my favorite steels.
Yes I'm enjoying it lately! I just sharpened my CruWear Centofante as well and it was very nice
@ Spyderco Cru sharpens up nicely too indeed!
Great looking knife! Im finally starting to get over my "fixed blades shouldn't cost as much as folders" mindset, and i definitely see something from DCC in my future. So... K390, 64-65hrc custom heat treat, chisel grind, 19-23 thou BTE. From the maker with ~22° slightly convexed edge. Ive used it pretty hard (cutting up tons of dirty cardboard, twisting out of cuts in seasoned hardwood, lots of dumb machete type stuff) and haven't had any chipping. Obvious answer here feels like drop the angle, but im curious what you would do.
Sounds like a cool knife! I would take that puppy down to maybe 18dps and see what happens. If you notice damage, move up a degree. If no damage, move down a degree 👌
@@NocturneKnives Same conclusion I came to. I want to find the failure point, but not jump right past it then have to guess where it actually happened. 18 feels like the right place to start. It's a Farid Mehr FMP. I have a short of it on my other account. I think it's the only video of the model on here
Okay that thing is awesome!
I know this is older, but I was actually looking to see the placement of the washers as they are concave. Does it matter concave toward the blade? Convex toward the blade? Or maybe it doesn’t matter?
Convex towards the blade usually works better
Thanks for the review.😊
Thanks for watching buddy 🙏
I don't understand the price of the shaman. $240 for s30v. My pm 2 s45v was $80 less.
Most of the cost of the Shaman goes to the contoured handles. There's only a very minimal difference between S30V and S45VN.
thanx was looking for u...perfect
I love the blade shape but the original scale is "not compatible". Nice scale you have there
I am an old guy. I am amazed how quickly ghetto talk makes it into the mainstream, sadly. SICK is bad, your spacer looks Great.
This is kinda weird.. so for a little while now I’ve been keeping a personal log.. that’s giving it more credit than it deserves.. well I’ve been keeping track of as many Holt Haptic’s and Morpheus’s as possible whenever I come across them and their info. Well I began rewatching Holt videos tonight and came across this one again. I’ve previously watched it but it looked interesting enough to watch it, at the very least, a second time, as far as I can remember. I really dig the way this Morpheus looks, has really interesting colors, and as soon as you flashed the selinko info, I paused it and took a photo of it and of the knife, to add with all the others I’ve been collecting. I currently own two Haptics and two Morpheus’s and as soon as I seen the date of birth on screen, alarm bells were ringing in my head. I’ve seen that exact date before! 08/08/2022 to be exact. I know I have because it’s the date of probably my favorite Morpheus, #740! The Morpheus in the video is #657. Both #657 and #740 share the exact same birthday! 08/08/22! And both have S90V blade steel(which seems pretty rare as far as I can tell)! But here’s the weird part.. My Morpheus #740 is a “V2”, which means that it is a frame lock! The video’s Morpheus #657 is a liner lock! Simple math shows that there would be 82 different Morpheus’s between #657 and #740. And all 84 of them(at the very least) had to have all been born on the exact same day! Now somewhere in there they switched from liner lock Morpheus’s to frame lock Morpheus’s. But it gets a little weirder.. as I was saving the photos of the selinko info and knife, I noticed that when I saved it with #657 they ordered themselves numerically, and right next to the brand new photos were screenshots with the exact same number, #656! I had previously come across this exact same knife, earlier this year, on 6/17/2024, in a post where it was previously up for sale on blade forums! What are the odds!? All of this makes me wonder just how Holt are doing their knive’s date of births. Is it more arbitrary rather than exactly whenever the knives are actually made or finished? Or I’m guessing they are doing large groups on a certain date(entering in the selinko information) and sometimes all different kinds can get mixed together on the same exact date. I dunno.. but now I’m even more curious.. if anyone knows, please share, I’d love to know more! Thanks for your time and thanks for reading this if you made it this far!
You have to be kidding
Fax, no printer, my friend.
We have established two things from this video. You have no printer and no testosterone!
很棒的一把刀❤,來自臺灣的粉絲
You're right. Pretty lame video, and lazy too. Why in the world would you let this video still be up?? You should have redone it and gotten rid of this joke of a video. So many "I think" or "I don't know" in this mess. Really a shame with this great knife.
Garbage knife tbh , thumb studs ding up the aluminum and then u end up with blade rock . 😮
I have not personally seen that happen, but a bummer if it does!
The Socom Elite will last a lifetime
If you're going to post in my comment section in response to other people, do it nicely and act like an adult. I removed your other comment. If you write it again, politely, it can stay.
I fixed mine with a copper shim against the handle , thank god the design allows it
And removed. Thanks for watching though 👍
Stone washed shaman has much softer jimping and that is the default Shaman. Also Shaman has much stronger blade and tip. If you are into bushcrafting or survival Shaman is a much better knife and PM2.
Yeah I mention about the stone washed jimping, I believe. And yes, for hard use or abuse, the shaman is much better. But if I need that I use a fixed blade. Use the right tool for the job, and all 😉
@@NocturneKnives Fixed blade has it's use and place obviously, but there always is a folder knife in your pack if you're serious about bushcrafting or survival. And Shaman fits that role quite nicely. Yes, I agree, you should definitely use the right tool for the job ;)
I've got one coming pretty soon, pretty rad
Awesome 😎
Thanks
Subscribed! Great video!
Thanks buddy 🙏 glad you enjoyed
The webfoot is so underrated. I got mine for $35. Im gonna buy a couple more when they're on sale again.
Yes I got mine then too!
Hey brother! Hope you’re ok up there. We’re still without power here in Cola town. Hoping it comes back soon. Be safe!
Thank you my friend 🙏 I actually got power back shortly after filming this on Friday evening. So I'm all good! Hoping the best for you.
EASY MANIX 2 XL
I have enjoyed that one the couple times I've handled one
You just saved me a ton of money! That nub is a huge no-go for me.
Good job !!!
Thanks buddy 🙏
I get the feeling whoever you bought that for is never going to see it 🤣🤣
Lol he did get it, but I did enjoy checking it out
The new Bodacious solves that nubb over the compression lock problem. That was a deal breaker on the Shaman for me as well
Yes! I really like the Bodacious
What strop is that?
It's one I made. You can checkout strops I make and sell on my Instagram. I'm out of stock right now, but will be making more soon. instagram.com/nocturneknives?igsh=NzBxY29nMHltNzl4
I own both and carry the Shaman 3 to 1 over the PM2. If you just fidget and cut paper, the PM2 is the choice, but if you need a sturdy, reliable knife the Shaman is the choice. Personally I didn't even notice the nub until it was shown on youtube. I guess my "man hands" didn't feel the jimping issue...Actually I like it! I still use my PM2 as my "Gentlemans blade".
Dang, PM2 as a gents carry is bold lol! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I know a lot of people prefer the shaman, but personally I like a little more light and slicy. I don't have many hard use duties for me knives Thanks for watching!
I'm a PM2 guy but waiting on a nice sprint run on the Shaman to get a cool steel. The standard S30V isn't worth the price in Europe in my opinion, despite Spyderco's impecable heat treatment. If I'm getting one it better be something special that's all. The CruWear PM2 is just so sweet, I'd love a tough Shaman in something like 3V.
Those AD knives, AD10, AD15, etc are by Andrew Demko as far as I know. John is his brother, also a knife guy and a partner in Demko Knives.
Thanks for the clarification!
Have the same knife. Love it. Had it for a while. Recently lost it and just got a new one today.
Yeah it's pretty dang nice 👍
