Holy Cow! I thought this was played in 6/8 and it's in 3/4 and the metronome marking must be about 180-200 bpm. it gets a little tricky holding a jazz ostinato pattern in 3/4 time.

As a kid l loved this theme and still love it at 54 years old as a musician this was arranged perfectly !!!!my dad God rest him was a jazz fanatic and with arrangements like this I see why !!! I'm listening to it now as I type

I just love this!!!!!!!!!!!! I was a teenager when Mannix debuted. And being a drummer, I loved the theme song. Never heard this long version before. WDR Big Band with John Riley on drums....Outstanding as usual!!!! Listen to WDR with Gunhild Carling as guest on TH-cam. She's unbelievable. Can't believe this is 3/4 time. Just shows you that Brubeck wasn't the only one who could swing odd time.

Guess a lotta commentators are not aware about the music. This is a fine piece of 5/4 tempo jazz. Like Mission Impossible. Indeed by the same genius composer Lalo Schifrin. This version is a phantastic workout for (German WDR?) big band and shows the true quality of the composition. Usually you can only find the 55 seconds film trailer when looking for it. Which of course can't showcase much more than the wonderful main theme further to and ended by that most remarkable intro.

Even with the transcription I lose the rhythm. I think the drums and bass are so syncopated especially next to the piano part it's like polyrhythmic nightmares lol
