Hurricane Helene Flooded Our Project Cave in Tennessee
Come along with us as we go back out to our project cave in Franklin County, Tennessee where the landowner dug open the entrance with a track ho. We visited this property first back in May and had explored some known caves and even starting digging on a good blowing lead. One of the caves that we were not able to get into that day was a spring cave. It was pushing out a lot of water the day we were there and had since dried up. Given the opportunity, the landowner used a track hoe to dig it out for so we could easily get into it to explore. After our initial exploration, we did go back and start a survey of the cave.
On this day, we decided to go back to pick up where we left off with our survey but unfortunately due to the rains we had two weeks prior from Hurricane Helene it has left the entrance to the cave sumped. We made it about 25 feet into the cave and realized the water levels were just too high and impassable. We are hoping in a few weeks the water will have come down enough to let us back in as this area is basically just pooled water that needs to drain.

    • @tag_caver
      @tag_caver 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I realize I used the wrong words on the snake. It is not a fossil, it is only calcified in the flowstone. I get a little too excited in my brain gets too far ahead of me sometimes. I've actually been caving for 21 years in this area so I am very experienced. However, that is not a dinosaur vertebrae because this is in limestone. Limestone is a sedimentary rock. This used to be an ocean, those fossils/bones whatever they are were laid down when this was an ocean. So it is aquatic.

      Have you studied cave paleontology at all? We have fossilized pre-historic mammal bones in limestone out here at Carlsbad caverns .. and that use to be underwater as well. Here is a link to Mcwayne in Alabama, they have a lot of Dino specimens from Alabama, and have paleo scientist that work a lot with the public in public programs, might be worth a visit if your not too far away, you have a very rich history of Dino’s there in Alabama, it might be interesting for you to check out. I have a background in Geology and Mineralogy .. not Paleontology .. but I use to work for a world renown Gem and Mineral dealer in Laguna Beach, Calif. called Kristalle, and we sold both Dino eggs and some fossilized bones and teeth encased in limestone. They are still around and sometimes sell paleo specimens online .. but it’s mostly minerals these days. mcwane.org/explore/exhibits/permanent-exhibits/alabama-dinosaurs/

    • @tag_caver
      @tag_caver 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@chrisstrobel3439 this limestone layer is actually older than the dinosaurs so yes we know it's not a dinosaur. We've sent photos to folks at two universities but no one has been able to identify it. They would rather it be removed than even try to look at a photo. Where these bones are, it would be hard to remove them and is not something we are interested in doing.

      @@tag_caver The commentary is half the reason these videos are so good. fun and always pointing out so much in the cave. also - compared to other cave youtuber channels when you point stuff out the shots you get of that thing are always clearly visible!

    HAAAAY WOMAN HAAAAAY!! I am fairly new to the fact that there are caves and caverns all over the country... I went to Carlsbad caverns as a child and loved it. I've been a natural bridge caverns in Texas also loved it. I came across a channel Called the action adventure twins or something about a year and a half ago and they have got some amazing footage of the caves in the Appalachians. Im a 50 yo woman. I was diagnosed with three brain tumors a little over a year ago. Ive lost my job and partial vision in my left eye. It has put life into perspective for me and it's really gotten me from watching these videos to wanting to actually go out and do these things. I'm in great shape other than my brain tumors, but I have been reluctant to seek out adventures because I haven't seen any women near my age cave crawling Heavenly Father brought your videos to me for a reason. If you haven't been told today, YOU ARE A BADASS. THANK YOU for showing me that it is not too late for me and I can get out there and do it too.

      Hello! Oh yes, there are caves mostly all over the country but we've got a lot of them here in the South! Tennessee alone has almost 12,000! I am sorry to hear about your tumors. I too am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer 7 years ago when I was 40. We have a large group of women here in Tennessee that cave. If you are ever down this way and want to get underground, just let me know! I would also suggest going to caves.org/find-a-grotto/ and looking up a grotto near you. A grotto is a caving club and they can help show you the underground as well. Thank you for watching and for commenting too :)

    Back when white nose syndrome was first detected, I was very close to ground zero during that. Ended up doing soil-sediment samples In area caves and mines looking for the source! I feel your pain!

    Thats a different feel to that cave than the average Tag cave. Would love to know the story behind that vertical entrance. Those stromatolites give a hint as to why theres so much iron in the limestone.

    • @tag_caver
      @tag_caver 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      At the vertical entrance, there used to be a man who sold firewood. He filled in the sinkhole but left the culvert there for access to the cave. He has since died so the majority of the firewood is now gone.

    Thanks for posting! You're in my area now, the culvert at the E. P. entrance used to stick up a couple of feet from the ground and was surronded by grass in a pasture.

    Wherever you guys go it is always different. A 4 mile jaunt through a 30 mile cave ... that's a lot of cave to explore! The entrance you used was unique! a lot of time put in to make that.
