Two things made this show, Noel being so deeply invested, and the contestants lived in a hotel until their turn so they had a chance to properly bond and root for each other. The new series with the abysmal Mulhern doesn't even come close.

I am American, and I am familiar with both the US and UK versions. I've always preferred the UK game for two reasons: 1. Noel was the consummate professional, always aware of what made for good television and yet so compassionate. 2. The UK show put substance above style, with people's stories that viewers could care about. The US version was too glitzy and somehow too plastic.

My Dad always used to say to that if he ever ended up on the program that he would turn top Noel Edmonds with ZERO boxes open right at the start of the show and say to him, "Get the banker on the phone. I want to see how much he will offer me for my box right now with none of the 22 boxes unopened." Don't get me wrong I'm pretty sure it's probably written in the rules somewhere that you're NOT ALLOWED to do that but it would of been funny to actually see a contestant try it at least!!

Nothing will ever beat the original. I remember watching the first episode in August 2005 and was hooked instantly. But the 100k jackpot on the new version is not impressive. And Stephen Mulhern can’t hold a candle to Noel Edmonds. Noel was always invested in the back stories and he could ratchet up the tension when needed. Plus he coined the terms “East Wing” “West Wing” “The Pilgrims” “Pound Table” “Dream Factory” “Bankers Gamble”
