Let's ROCK, ROCK, ROCK & ROLL!

This was a part of my drum solo where I triggered a sample of Johnny Winter shouting "ROCK N ROLL" ripped from his "Johnny Winter And" live LP. Little did I know a few years later I was asked to gig with him. RIP JW and thanks!.

This is a fun band we have here in Nashville. This up-beat tune was written by Dana Bradford (vocals) and Judd Fuller (bass) and features Jeremy Asbruck and Phillip Shouse on Guitars. Caleb Sherman guests on keys and we recorded this at his Cygna Sound Studios in Nashville. Turn it up and enjoy!

"Stump the Band" - The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Jan. 1978 with Sandy Gennaro
Do you by chance have a high quality recording of Girls Just Want To Have Fun from The Tonight Show on March 1, 1984? I’m only asking because it appears you were the drummer there. I’m asking you because I can’t find any of the other band members TH-cam channels besides Cyndi’s and you seem to reply to comments. Thanks in advance if you have it.
Holy cow, Sandy! I met him when he was drumming for the Monkees in 2001. What are the odds I would see this? I came on here trying to find an episode that my friend Liz is on, she sang Cosmic Charlie by the Grateful Dead.
I see this is professionally filmed. What was it for and is the full concert available?
@@niapeeplesrarities7924 yes it’s from the monkees live 2002.
OK, I found it. It's the 2001 DVD: "Live Summer Tour." Peter was fired after this show so it couldn't of been a 2002 concert. The 3 didn't get back together till 2011. I do have the dvd but hadn't seen it for awhile
@@niapeeplesrarities7924 You're on it!!!
Johnny didn’t seem to know who Sandy was.
That was before I started to play with known artists.
He did, eventually - I went on to appear on Carson 2 more times w Cyndi and Leno once w the Monkees!
When i was old enough to stay up late like this, I used to LIVE for “stump the band”.
"No S**t Sherlock!!" Worst yet...Get TV never carries any Carson shows with "Stump the Band" segments. I had to come here for some real fun!
As I understand it, Sandy’s first hit record session date as a drummer was on Benny Mardones’s “Into the Night,” one of the few songs to have two separate runs on the pop charts. Great to see him here.
I've recorded professionally before 'Into the night" but Benny's record was my first hit record!
@@sandygennaro333 kudos to you! Pleasure to swap messages with you. Cheers!
I'm here because of Benny Mardones. Sandy is an awesome drummer.
You did a great job with Johnny and the band.
Thanks!
Very cool Sandy! I always wanted to meet Davey Jones since I was first grader and all the Monkees..
Thank you for sharing Sandy We all appreciate it We surely do Here's an interesting story In 1996 Rod Stewart popped my cherry! No! We weren't gay Rod Stewart was my 1st concert ever! As 1 of 100 Local Concert Working Crew + I was also 1 of only 8 Local Concert Show Call Stage Hand Working Crew & during the show After my Roadie passed Rod a few soccer balls While we were under The huge round stage That we built & right my Roadie passed a few soccer balls He then tricked me! Into passing Rod Stewart soccer balls Because he liked On how hard I worked all day & I was told That no one but Roadie's pass Rod Stewart soccer balls & in 2005 I was told the same thing When I worked for Rod Stewart again & I was told then as well That Local Working Stage Hands do not! Get to pass Rod Stewart soccer balls That was a 1 time thing! Just certain Roadies get to & 3 concerts later For the 1996 KISS Alive World Wide Tour I was now 1 of 150 Local Concert Working Crew When I was asked At the end of working The IN I was asked In a real funny way To help set up Peter Criss' drum set + I was also asked To do the Pre Sound Check as well Then I made KISStory by being the only Local Concert Working Stage Hand ever! To ever get The left overs contents! From Gene Simmons' mini cooler & it was Gene's Roadie who gave me The left over contents & he played another trick When I did my big big big NO! NO! When we had Gene backstage For his break & that Roadie Was the exact same 6'8'' monster of a man My Roadie! & he's the exact same Roadie! That I worked the Rod Stewart concert/show with! The 1st time What? That makes no sense! But it was The same exact Roadie! That tricked me! Into passing Rod Stewart soccer balls So this he didn't tell me So I knew that I wouldn't be picked Cause KISS was 3 4th concert ever So I was still sort of green But when I was picked I did not argue! Haha & after my Roadie was done torturing me With making me think That I was gonna be fired! Right after! The show ended Cause Gene took my whole name down After I did what I did So after the show My Roadie told me that Gene didn't tell him On what I did But that it had to have been! Something good! For Gene Simmons to just give me! The left over contents From Gene Simmons' mini cooler So how's that for funny I worked well over 250 major concerts for KISS Cheap Trick Van Halen Rod Stewart Poison Motley Crue Supertramp Van Halen w Sammy ZZ Top Def Leppard But not 1 time! Did I get to work A Cyndi Lauper concert So that saddens me a lil & this morning I got a message reply On my TH-cam Channel - Ole Rosssillly Drum Covers - & it was for my Cyndi Lauper Money Changes Everything So I got the bestestest message/reply ever! As your name was mentioned So I looked you up As I had no idea On who you were Sorry to say & I found after That I drummed to the live video of Cyndi Lauper That I later by chance I saw you in So after that I found out That you! Are that very drummer! Please tell me That I'm right! Cause no one wants to be wr wr wr wro wrong! There I said it Haha So I say today Thank you so very much! For your o so awesome! A top 10 hits That we all get to crank! Way way up! & have a listen to + I get to drum to as well So how fortunate enough am I Pretty gosh darn fortunate! So thank you so very much! & have yourself A most awesome! A day & thanks again Sandy ML&RAlways 😁
Who the hell is Sandy Gennaro?
yours truly!
That was great!
Thanks! It was fun!
Yes, 'David' could show up at any time, in any place in our lives. We have to treat him well, without expecting anything in return. What a fruitful encounter and great message!
Ross Tompkins (on piano) picked that one up fast.
The whole band did - onceI gave them the chords!
I've been searching 'Stump The Band' videos looking for one where a guy wins dinner at Ah Fongs ...and then disappointed he says 'Ahhhh fongs.' But this one is a gem, Sandy.
Thanks Dick!
Talking hotel keys, I would have loved to have had one of the prop hotel keys from the Fawlty Towers TV show!
Enjoyed the vid, a shame Dolenz is the only Monkee left.
1:53 love the guy 2 rows back w/ the 50s style haircut and threads!
Excellent!
Great story thanks!
You know, in years gone by, people were more kind and willing. Now as the Bible foretold, people are extremely selfish, no natural affection, fierce, no love for goodness etc. We need to remember when we pay it forward, look out for others with no expectations, then that is passed on to another and then to another and so on. Imagine, if the whole world did this, how much better our world would be. I try to remember this and it's not always easy because of someone's selfish actions has cost us. However, it's worth the effort.
You are absolutely right. We should all do our part to spread good will. I know sometimes it’s difficult but we have choices the way we perceive things that have happened to us in our life. It comes a point that we all should MoveOn and not let any negative situation steal our joy today and tomorrow. Thank you so much for the post
You rock Sandy.
Thanks so much, Rolo!
Thanks!
Very nice gesture.
Awesome

Love this story Sandy.
Thanks Kelly!
Do you have ANY regrets about your spunky tonight show debut? Mark Malkoff needs to interview you!! Do you know any Motown folks? What is the story behind the song you wrote? What did it feel like to touch Johnny’s hand? Is your hair still long? Have you written music recently?
NO REGRETS!
@@sandygennaro333 - Naturally! You NAILED the audition! May I interview you sometime?
What a cool bit of ones past to have. Who says drummers can't sing?
Not me!
This is awesome! I saw you play with Ace Frehley many moons ago. You. sound very New York here, too.👍
Are you originally from Rockford IL?

Thanks! You can't take the accent outta da boy!
Everything can change in a New York minute. Believe it!
Great video Sandy...I also believe going out of your way to help someone can do a full circle. I play "Money Changes Every" fairly often for the sound of you playing the drums, excellent.
Excellent segment, and good song! I googled you after watching the video on my tv. I figured you probably became famous!
Thanks so much!! I appreciate it!
Thaks, Syd!
“You are a gentleman?” Goddamn you could NOT get away with that today.
It was all in good fun! I agree with you!
Sandy, that was incredible. I don't know how you got that clip that you were on back then. I missed The Tonight show so much. Johnny Carson was the absolute best. What an awesome memory to have met him and talked with him for only a few minutes.
I eventually got that clip from a high-ranking employee of NBC whom I met when I was with Cyndi Lauper. Yes, it was awesome meeting JC. After that appearance in '78 I met JC twice more in '84 when I appeared on the tonight show w/ Cyndi.
woah that was great fun!
Thanks!
Great clip! I recently had the experience to hear Sandy speak about life lessons, leadership, and living in a world of opportunity. Outstanding speaker, first class guy, and powerful message.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I hope we cross paths again!
WTG, Sandy and FUNNY, too.
Cool stuff...I really liked the Carson gig...great tune...still in my mind
Yes sir I am
I had you as an instructor at dc in 95 you helped me a lot thanks.
Thanks so much Rick!!! I hope you are still bangin away!!
Not too hard to stump the band with a song you wrote lol! I was in two punk bands in the early and later nineties and they wouldn't have known our songs either!
Yeah - that's why I know I was going to dinner on Carson! Thanks for reaching out!
That's the first time I've ever seen the band forcibly stop a "Stump the Band" song. Sandy wasn't done, he'd have just kept on going with another verse or two.
The Stump the Band audience members are pre-selected. I think they chose 3 for this segment to be performed within a certain time frame. "Tweezers" is about 2min 30sec in it's entirety. Thanks for your comment!
That was great, the kids must have loved it. I was always amazed at how young children handle critical diseases like cancer, they tend to roll with the punches and the very young ones don't realize and in a way think this is just how life is . Great rendition though and Im sure you made their day.
Funny I was going to google you and see if you were still involved in music then I noticed its your channel
I'll ALWAYS be involved with music!
@@sandygennaro333 it’s cathartic. I loved playing in high school and less during college. The Med school years wiped away any playing but now at 63 and digital technology I can play and record at home. All but the drums , I’ll go faster and slower. I have a medical channel on YT and now and then I post me doing a song. Patients get a kick out of it but the pleasure of making music is unsurpassed!
I’ve watched many of these “Stump The Band” segments from The Tonight Show over the past few weeks. Waxing nostalgic, I guess. Missing a time passed. I’ve got to tell you, yours is the best, in my opinion! Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you so much, especially for a "Stump the Band expert"! It was a very memorable moment being a huge fan of Carson for a long time! thanks again and Happy New Year!
Thanks!
Probably some kind of liability issue
Kind of makes you wonder why the guys doing the talk show hosts today don’t do this
I agree! I'll never forget that experience especially being a huge fan of Carson's.Thanks!
Daaaang.... And Johnny didn’t hire you on the spot? That was great!
Thanks so much!!! Happy New Year!
Wonderful men...i was his student at the collective in NY....in a very very difficult time.... September 2001....he made all of us very welcome and passionate altough the difficult Moment....grazie Sandy! Giancarlo Pettorino
You never knew who Johnny was going to pick out of the audience.
Yes he did!!!! The associate producer "auditioned" the songs outside while we were waiting in line! then picked 3 or 4 and sat us in designated seats!
Ya gotta stay ready!
