    Sir. I really really want to thank you for that well well detailed video. My 90 5.0 was having literally those problems you mentioned. It was just a stock rebuild engine with just a B303 cam and valve springs. I was dealing with idle and timing problems for a year until I saw your video yesterday and did exactly what you said in the video. Now thanks to you I’m back on the road. Thank you 😊.

    If you have a crossfire setup on a modified engine, would you increase or decrease the amount of water pulled? If I’m at 6 the idle is rough, if I decrease it, it smooths out. I hooked up a vacuum gauge at the manifold and the needle bounces at 6 but levels out when that is adjusted down.

    • @Joesmusclecargarage
      @Joesmusclecargarage 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ChrisMurray-q2c 6 is just a number to balance with. You can balance them at 3, 6, 9, etc. As long as each TB draws the same amount of vacuum, it’s irrelevant. Once they’re synced, you can set your idle speed.

    So if my battery dies and I have all of this properly set do I have to unplug the IAC and the spout connector when I put my new battery in to get everything to run properly again? Ive also seen a lot of videos about doing a base idle reset. I've always had good luck doing that and clearing up most of my surging issues in any of the foxes that I've put together. I never have done it this way and I'm just curious because now this seems a lot more sensible obviously and your car sounded very clean

      @ I wish I was, I’m out of MN. Replaced intake gasket on my 1982 comaro, ran good before she definitely ran a bit rich before but changed those gaskets and up and the timing is set 6-10 btdc. But the car will good when it’s cold but as soon as it gets warm it’ll drive good on low acceleration but until I give it more it wants to pop and backfire out of the intake. Has hesitation off the get go too. Runs really rich I mean it’s very strong.

      What is your fuel pressure at? Have you verified? The FSM states anything between 9-13psi is acceptable, but they really need to be around 13-14psi. Backfiring/popping through the intake indicates either a timing issue, or a lean condition. Since you verified the timing, fuel pressure would be the next thing to check.

    Nice video. Some of us have been preaching SPOUT out when doing base idle reset for a many years now online - just need to find us. One thing you did not mention at all is the learn steps of the base idle reset. The computer needs to be reset after setting the idle is adjusted as you described (disconnect battery for a few minutes) and retaught what idle is and loads it will experience. That's why you do the 2 mins running of no load (everything off) then 2 mins of the engine off, then 2 mins of every load you can put on the engine (A/C, lights, blower fan, electric fans (if you have them) so that the computer will learn what maximum engine at idle load could be and it can learn an idle strategy to run smooth. Then 2 more mins of engine off. Now you are set with your idle tuning.

      @@C-64 Because it is a very small amount of vacuum. Water is heavy. The vacuum won’t overcome the weight of the water. The other end stays open, otherwise you won’t get a reading.

    Thanks for posting this video. I am converting my 83 LU5 trans am ECM to a 7747 out of a 1990 silverado. My transmission is automatic 700R4. I have the plugs for the 7747, so I am going to solder them in. Would you be willing to send me the pinouts for the 7747 ECM? Great videos!

    Fuck these things suck!!!!! I had nothing but headaches with my 84 corvette with crossfire!! Ended up boring and stroking it out! Slapped an LS into it!

      @Joesmusclecargarage 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So just to be clear; you couldn’t figure out a simple TBI system, you proceeded to bore/stroke an unknown engine that you did not specify, and then you LS swapped it? That’s completely ok if 40+ year old technology is over your head. Thats good you’re comfortable admitting it publicly. There are CFI cars running deep in the 11s for far less than you have into your fanboy LS swap.

    what is maximum ignition retard that the stock computer can induce, (afterwards when timing spout is re-installed) computer desperately trying to get to 700 rpm target idle speed, when the thumper cam is at 950 rpm? lol
