Welcome to the Gecko Galaxy channel home of the Reptile Hangouts Podcast and other astronomical reptile content! WV Herping Part 6: Flipping a Milk Snake!
After a long herping hiatus I'm finally back out at one of my favorite spots to flip rocks and it DID NOT disappoint! Amongst the many plethodontid salamanders I mange to turn up a real West Virginia gem and lifer for me, and Eastern Milk Snake!! I am a ecologist and herpetologist from the Netherlands. Next year I will be traveling to the south east US. I was wondering what the marbeld salamander around 3:50 is doing with its tail?
Keep getting out and exploring get yourself in better shape for it and you will find many more and be able to go further and further with more ease . Great finds 👍

I've got family out there. No snakes, but Ive seen box turtles, common and alligator snapping turtles, and some sort of sliders.
What are the odds of this happening ?
Not too sure what the actual odds are, it’s more common in some species, in fact it’s the norm in some species i.e. mourning geckos. From what I’ve heard it can happen regular in gargoyles but it doesn’t always result in a successful hatching.

I nearly bought that hat (or similar) on Etsy a while ago. Ended up getting one with a slimy salamander instead.
Got that thing at the NARBC Tinley Park IL in 2018, it never misses a night of salamanderin’! 😂

My best advice would be to search for reputable breeders once you’ve done your research and you have everything in place to properly care for the animal.

Great interview, Kyle and Krystal! Gecko Galaxy Crew, I have a few recommendations for other guests that would be highly educational and fun. Jonathan Deboer from Jecko's Geckos. He produces a lot of the smaller new cal species and other rare geckos. Christie Knieriem of Christie's Reptile Room and Emily Burke of Emily Burke Artwork. Two besties that would be a fun, dual interview to watch. Emily's known for her killer tricolors and artwork. Christie produces stellar cresties, leaf tails, tokay, and flyers.
