    If you had the bucket of clean replacement water ready, you could have just left the hose on the bottom drain the whole time... Seems like the less on and off of that spigot the better.

    I’ve lived in the country and in the city. I’ve always cleaned my filters with tap water every time and never had a problem with my fish after. Had multiple tanks since I was 14 and I’m 40 now. Again zero issues with that. Keep 35 percent of the water in your tank while cleaning it and you’re fine

    I wish you'd shown taking the hoses off, putting them back on, and turning the filter on. I feel like that's where it all goes wrong for me

      To remove hoses you need to click the red buttons found on the connectors to the body of the filter. To turn the water flow on and off throughout the hoses you just need to twist the valves shut.

    Just leave the drain/fill hose attached to the valve, put a rubber plug/stopper in the end of the hose after youre done & you wont ever spill a drop 👍👍👍👍😊😉

    Thanks, so for people wanting to fully remove water from their tank, what do you suggest? I was hoping the fluval could do a full water removal. I like that it fills the water pretty well though

      I would drain as much as you can with the filter but use a external pump to get the water down even more. If you can tilt the tank so that the filter can get more water out. If you can tilt the tank I would scoop out the rest of the water with a cup. I you can lift the tank I would drain as much as you can and just dump the water out.

  • @johnbrand1893
    @johnbrand1893 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If your going to use the Fluval FX to do a water change, you could use a pirex dish to catch any spillage or just put the towel under the hose when you remove it. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

      At the time of this video I was using Led Flood lights from amazon, but unfortunately they didn't last very long. I have since switched to Fluval Plant Led 48" and that does great for plants.

    Great video, thanks! I have and use the fx4 on my fish tank. I don’t use that bottom valve because it feels flimsy and don’t wanna take the chance of breaking it, so I leave it alone, lol. I just use the Python hose instead directly from the sink faucet. I put some prime in the fish tank right before turning the faucet water on. Cheers.

    Have an FX4 on my 55 which has been on for a month and will be switched to my 75g but just so I heard right when your filling the canister back up you’re using just regular tap water and just adding the prime or seachem correct?

    • @wellsamateuraquariums9623
      @wellsamateuraquariums9623 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes make sure to use dechlorinated tap water, ro water, or tank water to clean and refill your cannister. You dont want to just use tapwater or you can kill off your bebeficial bacteria.

    i would just use that service port next to the motor to prime it or put the hose back in and it should siphon some tank water which is perfect for the biomedia

    I've been thinking about going back to a canister filter for my planted 75 gal. However, do you find the hoses to be growing algae in them and then reintroduced to the tank once it's turned off then on? I had this problem with my old canister filter and thus switched to multiple hang on filters. It seemed the hoses were the perfect spot for algae to grow then get blasted back in to my tank after restart.

    Seachem safe better than prime since it covers 10-20x more than the seachem prime. Saves more money in the long run

    • @wellsamateuraquariums9623
      @wellsamateuraquariums9623 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I bought the Prime I was also looking at the Safe for that same reason, only issue is that a little goes a very long way. So measurements for a 10 gallon tank can be tricky!

    • @JohnT2088
      @JohnT2088 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wells' Amateur Aquariums its kinda hard to over dose with safe like really really hard. I never measure it. And so as many fish store in area. Just guess and dump. Been fine for my 10 gallon and 20 , 125g. If someone really killed fish by putting too much safe powder in then i got no words for them hahah 🤯
