So it's difficult for me to answer other than it's in the middle of the road as far as quietness. Have you considered going out where it's mostly farmland to fly, at least until you have more practice? I have about 10 years of ultralight flying in, and noticed in case of an engine out, it would have taken some major luck and excellent skills to do a landing you could walk away from. At many points, you had no way out except trees or rooftops. I would fly at a minimum of 1500' above these areas that you were over to allow time to pick a LZ and scan for obstructions and hazards. Just my 2 cents with no offense intended. You could always have your last instructor view this and get their opinion. Thanks for posting the video, and good luck with future flights.

      Yes considered that it's just on a week day during the winter by the time I get there it's dark. Typically the path I flew there is at least one out nearby or the road. Sometimes the camera makes the LZs look small or they can't be seen to the left or right. You are correct at one point there were nothing but trees. I told the airport I would stay below 700 until I was away from them since there were students in the air (sidenote also the airport doesn't allow PPG pilots, ultralights or powered parachutes to fly from the airport so i must find a field nearby). Hey thanks for the feedback I will definitely keep it in mind and hopefully find some farm land to fly around.

      Most definitely. There were student pilots in the pattern at 1k feet and didn't want to get in the way lol, while keeping a bailout near by. Thx again for the advice.

    Hell yeah man! I feel you on getting trained and not having the time to fly! Kids and wife are top priority flying is always on my mind though!

    Great flight, don't stress about the butt landing, loads of people do it when learning.. ive done it more times than not. Ive found the two best advice ive been given is to 1) keep your hands up until the very last second to build maximum glide speed for the flare. Whenever I flared too early it always dumped me straight into the ground like this th-cam.com/video/Og3kiCjV82U/w-d-xo.html and the second bit of advice which is Flat top specific is make sure your leg strap is loose enough that you are hanging vertically without your legs sticking out in front and its easy to run it out and yet not too loose you can't get back into your seat as I just learned the other day. For your 3rd flight you did great.

      Thank a bunch for the encouraging words. It will be cold but I will try to get a flight in tomorrow and give that advice a shot. On my first flight after year I landed on my feat but pulled to much brake and pulled myself over. Funny thing is during training I never but landed.

      @@Vanpotheosis I think its more I need to get my timing down. People who have went through other instructors said they butt landed their first few flights also. In super training I never butt landed. In this vid I was being transparent alot of guys don't talk about their failures.

      @@Vanpotheosis And which death would that be out of thousands of students? The kiting accident on the beach where he wasn't even present? You really need to get over your own hate of the guy, its a miserable way to live.

      @@Vanpotheosis You bought the hate here to this nice guys video, not Dell, its all on you with your anonymous youtube account. And all you've got with 20+yrs of Dell instructing to pick over is a kiting accident on a beach with one of his instructors almost 10yrs ago and a video of Dells flattop literally saving a guys spine from being shattered.. that's it? that's all you've got? That's really sad man.

    • @Para_Ninja
      @Para_Ninja 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vanpotheosis I don't want to fight about it either, it really sucks there is this schism in the sport that you and I love and I dont deny Dell isnt on one side of it but there another side which attacks FT owners. I don't defend Dell on his own channel I just get riled up because as a Flattop owner we get a massive amount of spillover hate which really isnt fair and puts us constantly on the defensive. At the end of the day its all about safety/usability tradeoffs. Its not the easiest frame/engine/wing to learn on without some Flattop specific instruction, I had loads of trouble too until I got just a couple of basic tips but it does have its advantages over other frames/rigs/wings such as that video with the guy going on the ice hard on his reserve, on a light frame he very well could have shattered his spine, actually there is a longer version of that same video where the pilot who crashed actually admits that immediately after. One of the deciding factors in me getting a Flattop is a friend who got me into the sport crashed into a tree on his Scout and fell 30ft onto his bum crushing his spine and ended up in a wheelchair just as I was selecting my paramotor. (hes barely walking again a year later) I cant say the crumple zone would have entirely saved him but it would have helped. Since ive owned it ive crashed a bunch of times too one time would also have been a serious spine issue so im not changing rigs. FWIW he manufactures the frame in Utah, the Dominator wings are made by Sky Paragliders in Czech Republic. I don't even hate on other rigs they all have their tradeoffs, I bought one for a friend who is a smaller dude who wouldn't have been able to handle the bulk of a FT and hes a naturally athletic dude anyway not prone to accidents, hes in my latest video. Anyway peace to you too, maybe one day we will fly together at a fly in.
