This is the most time I've put into a game in a long time.
2025: daektable does AI masks
I was never good at any fighter. I just don't have the coordination.
Wow! Incredible to see h.264 work under CPU. The biggest thing I want to see though is AAC audio decoding. This will make so many people's lives easier. And maybe making Resolve work on a integrated GPU entirely. But this is all great to see! Nobora seems really cool! As an NVIDIA user, however, my experience is generally much easier by default.
Also, I would LOVE to see how Resolve does with a Arc B580!!
Here I show game play of virtua fighter 5 r.e.v.o. running on linux
As an LMDE 6 user, I've been looking for something for my main desktop. Nobara & CachyOS are the top strong contenders for me. Will probably migrate to one of them this year
Here I show resolve performance on nobara linux and I show how to install some cpu rendering plugins.
After trying both Nobara 40 and CachyOS it is clear CachyOS is the better experience if gaming and streaming
I can't get over the fact that he mispronounced proprietary. I can't watch the rest of this video. My day is ruined.
Yeah, you don't find that package (opencl-filesystem) on arch, because arch is not fedora (red hat based).... Pretty straight forward how to install if you read the arch wiki... The problem is that davinci is full ham proprietary, so distros tend to not like to mess around with that application, nobara is one of the exceptions with the install script. Myself I prefer Kdenlive, that supports all formats ootb without having to pay for a "studio" version in the first place. Instead I donate to them out of free will.
I'm not a Linux user, but Nobara or Bazzite seem like they'd be great to use either instead of or alongside Windows in the case of dual booting. Though Linux Mint also seems great.
I've not had much luck with mint, but I'm also not accustomed to Debian based distributions. Base fedora is always great, so Nobara would be my recommendation.
Mint and bazzite are the 2 I use for my work computer and gaming pc. I love them both, when my kids are a little older I’m going to start them on bazzite, it’s nearly impossible to break and if you are a steam gamer just works.
Thank you soooooo! much. I hate having to jump back to Windows just to use Affinity.
Good video and I stayed and watched with a like as a Gentoo user and I'm happy you stated bare metal. A lot of tubers like to spin distro's up in a VM which does not do them justice at all. Piqued my interest enough to spin up on a spare extra bare metal system myself sometime in the next few days. Keep doing a great job and hope to see your channel grow.
Very interesting Shane Milton! I'm less happy with Ubuntu based distros, perhaps I'll take a good look at this.
The easy DaVinci Resolve install and configuration is huge to have and very important! I hope other distros make it easy like Nobara is!
good Video. will have to keep my eye on this.
Good comment. I'll keep my eyes on this.
Here I take a look at the fedora based linux distro nobara 41.
The "obviously¨s are not that obvious to noobs, alas...
Hallo Shane, I too have switched to linux but, watching your videos, I couldn't figure out in the end which software you prefer between rawtherapee and darktable...?
How did you install davinci resolve on arch? I had a few issues with mine
Do you play this game on a Linux machine? It sounds so...
Yes I play on Arch Linux been on linux for a long time now.
@@ShaneMiltonProductions Maybe you should make a video about how you got this game to work. Because on many sites (redit etc.) it says that this game cannot/will not run on Linux etc. I wouldn't want to install it myself, but there are certainly enough people interested. That would be an exciting direction for your Twitch channel (as far as I understand, that's what you're aiming for), to show the difficulties and, above all, solutions to them. So not only the difficulties in the games but also the difficulties in getting them to work. ;-)
I have the s5iix and when I open the raw files, I get purple noise.
Nice vid
Thanks
The edit text after it's applied effect has been around in 2.10 which I still use; only that the prior effect would be gone after the text is amended but can be easily re-applied with Last Used Filter. The biggest improvement in v3 is being able to grab multiple objects in the Layers docker and stuff em in a layer group/folder the same way I always did in PS, which has been the biggest time consumer when dealing with 100+ layers like working on an NFT project. I'm glad it's no longer going to be a hindrance in v3.
You spent at least ⅓ of the video talking about anything but specifically the Gimp 3 RC2 😑
Hyprland on my PCs with CachyOS (Arch-based). Terrific experience. It looks like you are going to enjoy this hobby to make the PC your own. > I used Windows since 3.1, teaching children and adults MS products while maintaining hundreds of Windows systems. Hey. It was a way to raise a family. I do not miss Windows for one second.
for multiple monitors i installed the split-monitor-workspaces plugin
Can you select multiple layers?
Just tried and yes you can I don't know how I missed that.
@@ShaneMiltonProductions cool, I heard it's now possible and I kinda expected you to show it 😁
GIMP is vim editor for images. You're cool and shine on parties if you know how to use it but you must be insane to use it for real :)))) I can't believe this thing this exist :)))
I've used GIMP 2.x multiple times for real work over the years. GIMP 3 is only going to be better.
I always use GIMP for a quick edit or even more complex stuff, there's nothing insane about it, it just lacks features but I find it quite intuitive
As a fresh linux user, I had the exact same issue you mentioned at the start, trying to get specific workspaces bound to specific monitors. Turned out the fix was as simple as adding workspace = 1, monitor:DP-1 and so on to my hyprland.conf file and restarting hyprland, cheers.
That non destructive editing feature is really nice. I have never been good at image/photo editing so might look into learning more on that this year. If it wasn't for random university classes needing to use Respondus software to lockdown the system I would have been completely moved to linux at this point.
10:25 -- That's not a quirk of Darktable that the white balance temperature is inverted, it's because that module is before Negadoctor in the pixelpipe. So you are applying the color temperature before inverting with Negadoctor, which is why you are seeing that behavior.
But for distros, i think something more stable is better than arch like fedora or nobara.
nice to know about your experience with AMD on linux, Rocm is the direct competitor do CUDA from amd on linux, but there is a project in the future called ZLUDA that plans to port CUDA to AMD cards, hope it comes in a few years. My GPU is nvidia, its a shame that amd is still lacking.
Making progress on the bio dome and liquid water.
This game is fun and chill at the same time.
Doesn’t Wayland/Hyprland have issues with Nvidia GPUs?
Nvidia is working fine on wayland for a few driver versions now that explicit sync in in wayland on on nvidia drivers.
its been fine for about 4 months now since driver 555+
Default config already, SUPER + [0,9] while cursor is on the monitor you want to create a workspace will create a workspace on that monitor. It will close however if you have no app on it when you move away. SUPER + SHIFT + [0,9] will move the focused app on that workspace and create it if it doesn't exist and will stay there even when you move away. Since i have 2 dual monitors, i barely use my second display, so i made it at workspace 9, so i could make my first one like workspaces 1-5, so it doesn't go 1,3,4,5. Only config change would really be to set which monitor is to the left, for example. If you want it to auto create and keep workspaces, there may be better way or you can just make a small script that runs on launch that would press keyboard shortcuts for you and launch the apps on them.
Yes Davinci resolve studio works on amd gpus but under linux only nvidia is supported for gpu decoding and encoding and amdgpu and intel on linux you are using cpu for encoding video and opencl for effects.
@@ShaneMiltonProductions Verstehe, Danke 😄
Doesn't hyprland just create workspaces as you need them? In my config I have "bind = $mainMod SHIFT, 3, movetoworkspace, 3" (obviously for workspaces 1-9).. so if I hit shift-super-3 it'll move the focused window to workspace 3 (creating it if it doesn't exist).
Ich mag deinen Weg das alles zu verstehen. Ich traue mich an Wayland nicht ran. Ich denke es wird noch lange unter Entwicklung sein... Habe mit Luke's Build begonnen und habe jetzt einen eigenen Buld... 😀
Yes wayland is good for me on kde plasma on my amdgpu and nvidia. I have noteced some graphical glitches on dual monitors on hyperland plasma did do this also but has been fixed.
@@ShaneMiltonProductions Der Punkt für Wayland ist die Möglichkeit unterschiedliche Pixeldichten zu managen. Was unter X11 einfach unmöglich ist. Und dieser Punkt betrifft mich 😅
just use X11 Tiling-Manager... DWM Get the Work done
I'm not an expert on hyprland but workspaces can be assigned to different monitors, since you're on arch you can use nwg-displays to configure the workspaces. It'll create a workspaces.conf file in your config/hypr folder and you can look at the format of that file and use it to setup things how you want
Here I go over my 30 use of hyprland on arch linux and talk about some of the pitfalls in my experience.
Looking good over here. Love what you got going on.
So interested to see whats coming next.
we get to blue sky's and cloud's in this episode
Dude!! Thx!!, I wanted to daily drive linux so I instaled steamOS on my laptop (I know, not my brightest idea), and davinci not working was kind of a deal breaker. But it does now. Thank you my guy.
Another Great Episode!
