Yup it’s definitely not that easy! 😬 Which one did you end up keeping?
@ i kept 14(M4 Pro) for now,when i need to do heavy LLM stuff,i’ll will get a 16(M4 Max)
Nice! Sounds like a solid choice 😃
@@coppensbram Thanks, keep those reviews coming 😊
What’s the best lens for real estate photography and videography with the r8? And a couple of options?
For real estate you want something wide, so I’d advise this 14-35 or if you can, spend the extra cash on the RF 15-35 f2.8. It’s an investment, but you’ll earn it back! If you’re ok with a prime (less versatile though), check out the new RF 24mm 1.4 VCM. Or just to get started, the RF 16mm 2.8 (quite a bit cheaper, but not as good for professional video). Hope this helps! 👍
Leaning on the 16 inch since i already own an iPad Pro m4 11inch hmmm thanks for the video
Yes - totally makes sense. The 11" is the portable device and the 16" the powerhouse 😎 Thanks for watching!
Would you say the sweet spot is the Macbook Pro 16" with the M4 Pro chip and 48GB RAM for professional photographers, video editors and graphic designers? Or do you think the Bind MacBook Pro 16" with the M4 Max chip and 36GB RAM would be a better choice?
@@codegeass809 Indeed, I’d say this is the sweet spot price/performance. The binned Max is also a good option, but you’re not getting a lot more for the money, and can’t upgrade the ram. You’d have to go for the full, unbinned Max to get to the real next tier. I’d rather have the extra memory to 48gb rather than the binned Max chip. That’s just my opinion though 😃 Hope this helps!
I've had both and they both have the noted advantages. Currently team 16" One other benefit of the 16" is the sound quality. Preceptively better on the 16". Cheers!
Yup, indeed - each has pros and cons 😃 I’m back on team 16” too 😎 Speakers are definitely more immersive!
Neither. they are identical the only difference is screen size. there now nobody has to watch this useless video
Why do people like you talk like that on the internet, but in real life you wouldn’t say that with a straight face to him in person. Where does being negative get you in life?
@@sotonin brilliant analysis 🤯 you should totally make a video about it!
matte or glossy?!
For me: glossy :-) I do a lot of visual work, and definitely prefer the standard display. The nano texture lowers contrast a bit and also isn’t as sharp. Unless you work from outside a lot, I’d not go for it. Just my opinion though 😊
@@coppensbram thank you for the thoughts!
You’re very welcome 😀 anytime!
This the first time I’m tempted to get the 16”. Thankfully it’s not my upgrade year but I kind of want it to be haha
Yes indeed! I upgraded to the M4 gen from M1 14”. Loving the 16” - definitely the size for me! Apple makes it difficult not to want to upgrade haha! But this seems like the right time, next year will be just a spec bump, but there’s a redesign rumored for the M6 gen. 2 years is acceptable to sell and upgrade 😂
I use dual monitor and the laptop will be mostly docked. Will be going for 14" M4 pro since I don't need the extra 2" screen nor longer battery. Can also save $ along the way.
Totally makes sense in your case! Solid setup. Which monitors do you use?
Hey Bram, my name is Johnny and I'm a freelance logo designer, would you love to have a logo for your channel to have a brand image your audience can remember your contents from and also can be one of the merch print you can sell to your fans to buy and own and share the words about your channel too? Thanks bro, but I’m a designer too 😉
@coppensbram oh I see, well, you can offset the work to another designer to make yourself able to focus on create your videos! And I can create merch prints and so on too :-)
Hands down the 16 inch!!!
Same for me! Went back to the larger size this time 😎 That screen 🤤
@ Amazing right. 16 m4 max is a beast
@@angad23dec yup it’s really fantastic! I ended up returning the m4 pro and splurged for the max. Future proofing 😂
@ that’s the right decision!
@@angad23dec yes I’m super happy with it!
I agree. I had the 14" M4 Pro MacBook Pro and thought it was the perfect size for portability and work BUT mainly portability is the advantage. I exchanged it for the 16" M4 Pro MacBook Pro and its not that much heavier and the screen is way more useful and amazing.
Exactly! I actually started with the 16” and swapped it for 14”. Now super happy to be back on the bigger one!
Great video man👍🏽 Definitely getting the 14inch model
Thanks! Yup, it’s an awesome machine 🔥What spec are you going for?
@ the base model M4 16gb, 512GB (it’s going to be my first ever MacBook, so really hoping I enjoy it)
@ you’ll love it I’m absolutely sure 😎
Great content. Gained a new fan.
Awesome 👊 😎 thanks for the kind words!
Good summary!
Thanks!
I ordered this 16" but with less specs: 24gb ram and 1tb ssd. Arriving in about a week. How is the thermal and fan noise behaviour in your experience?
Good choice! I’ve only heard the fans kick in when I was exporting 180-ish RAW files to JPG in Lightroom. The top center of the bottom part of the laptop was also warmer at that time, but nothing hot. While Video editing in Final Cut and even exporting, I haven’t heard the fans or noticed the temps going up. I guess you’ll only hear/feel it when you’re taxing the CPU and GPU at the same time (which is what Lightroom exports do). All in all, you shouldn’t worry about thermal performance or fan noise 😎 Hope this helps!
@@coppensbram thank you! Yes you reassured me a lot, that's what I hoped :) My main uses are a lot of writing, some photo and video editing in the range of 30 minutes video export. I upgrade from a 2012 13" macbook pro, which i still love, but it is literally burning to the touch, I use layers of insulating paddings when I use it on my lap 😂.. so thank you, I'm looking forward to open the box soon
@figo9246 oooh that will be quite the upgrade! You’ll be super happy 😉 Let me know how it goes!
solid editing skills and story telling

man your editing is fire
Thanks for the kind words 👊 I really enjoyed editing these videos!
I also have the basic M1 Mac Studio as my main video editor but I had an 14" M1 MacBook Pro and traded in on the new 14 M4 MacBook Pro unbinned and 48G memory and 1Tb SSD for my field work since I keep my video and photo files on fast external SSDs and also have a NAS for long term storage and group access. I am patiently waiting for the new M4 Mac Studios to trade in my old work horse. Lessons learned - it will not be basic configuration this time. Getting memory is priority one, Priority two is unbinned, and then deciding if the Ulta may be best long term or not? Your logic is spot on and it all depends on your workflow and work environment.
Ahhh cool - so an identical setup to what I had! 😎 The M4 Pro is a beast isn't it? Especially with 48GB memory! Yeah, I was also considering waiting for the M4 Studio, and speccing that up for my main workhorse. The M4 Ultra will be ridiculous! 🔥 But maybe a bit overkill for me? But I think this time, I'll go for the 1 device setup. I mean, at least try it for at least a year and see which I prefer 🙈 I'm really leaning towards the unbinned 16" M4 Max with 64GB. I've learned the same lessons the hard way haha - it's just Apple's crazy upgrade prices... Let me know what you end up with in a couple months 😎
love your new editing style for your vids
Thanks 👊 Glad you like it!
twss
Hi, I would definitely recommend going with the 16-inch MacBook Pro Silver, not Space Black. And for the specs, I would recommend 128GB of RAM and a 4TB SSD so that you do not have to worry about the RAM and SSD in the future.
Yes - definitely team Silver here 😎 Not only does it look better and timeless (in my opinion), it’s also much more fingerprint resistant! I definitely feel the 4tb ssd is the sweet spot for me. 2tb is just too tight, especially with a couple video projects and footage. And for memory, yeah 128gb would be awesome! But I’m thinking 64gb will be the best price/performance ratio for me. Especially that you have to upgrade to the top tier M4 Max to get these memory options 😅
You only had the 24 core m1 max... so yeah. M4 is better. if you had the 32 core it would be a bit better
Indeed - that would be a good comparison! I’m wondering if would affect the export time in Final Cut 🤔 and by what margin! I think in my case it’s more about the extra memory though.
I really want to find out how much better 48GB RAM would be when using Lightroom Classic. I’m still torn between 24GB or 48GB, I don’t think 24GB is enough of a jump (From my 16GB) but 48GB sounds like too much and it’s so expensive 😬 how does the memory pressure look like when you have Lightroom open and scroll thru pics etc?
It's always tough to choose with Apple isn't it 😬 I ran a quick test for you 😉 Note I'm using the regular version of Lightroom (not Classic), but I do have all photos locally, so performance should be similar. I also rebooted to have everything out of memory - and I had no other applications open (apart from the usual ones like NordVPN, CleanMyMac, AdobeCC, OneDrive, etc.). Then opened Lightroom and was browsing a couple of my local albums - couple thousands photos (most photos have masks and edits). Opened a few, zoomed in, back to the grid and same for another photo, then switching albums, etc. So the usual way you'd browse your work 😀 Activity Monitor went up to 26-29GB of Memory. But Lightroom was only using 5-7GB of that. So I would recommend you upgrade to 48GB of Memory. It's better to have it than not and then need it and regret you didn't 😂 Hope this helps!
this is the SPEC I WANT!!
Yes! I think it's the sweet spot for the M4 generation 🔥😎 I'm still debating to go for the M4 Max though - my videos tend to use quite a bit of memory 😬
Got the same specs but in a 14" form factor. While I wait for it to arrive, I’m just binge-watching reviews. Haha! Congrats on your upgrade! Fun fact: my work laptop is also an M1 Max (16"), and I’m happy to hear it’ll give you an even better experience. 😊
Great minds think alike 👊 You’re in for a treat! Really solid upgrade! The 14” will be awesome as well, so much power in a small form factor!
With the 100-400 better r7 or r8 with teleconverter?
I believe the quality on the R7 without teleconverter will be better than the R8 with teleconverter. However, it all depends on your use case. If you shoot in dark(er) environments like a forest or something, you might benefit from the full frame sensor on the R8. Hope this helps! 😉
Has to be the best laptop ever made
Well…. That would be M4 Max 🤪
@ true 😂
Why not just connect usbc to the camera directly and not use this battery contraption?
Not sure what you mean? 🤔
great review
Thanks! 😊
Really awesome video. How was your experience with both of them in low light videography, astro photography / timelapse ?
Thank you for the kind words 👊 They both have the same sensor, so it’s pretty much even for low light performance. However, since the R8 doesn’t have IBIS, you might need to crank up the shutter speed a bit more in low light photography. But overall I’d say it’s the same :-)
Nice video! Keep it up man. I hope your channel grows!
Thanks for the kind words 👊
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial!!!! It helped me a lot to start learning about my new Canon EOS r8. Are you, by any chance, offering an online course for a group of interested students?

@@coppensbram Thank you for your reply. I will send you an email if that's ok with you. I am really impressed how informative and detailed your tutorial is.
@ninoslavrandjelovic8100 all good ;-)
After m6II with m50 I had chosen for birding R8 because FF quality of picture.
Oooh the M6 II - I also had that camera. Real nice and compact!
My bucket list item has always been a Canon, and finally, I did it. Not to go pro but to truly capture the moments and have fun, your video set-up has been beyond helpful and given me confidence in falling in love with my R8. Thank you

Haaaa yeah that’s the Apple Tax! 😂 Their pricing is crazy.
Great video! I've been thinking a lot about this recently too, especially because iPad Pros have gotten so expensive, and the 13" is extra pricy and the 11" finally has just as good of a display as the big one. I tried out typing on the magic keyboards for each in an Apple Store, and the 13" one felt great and laptop-like while the 11" definitely felt a bit awkwardly small, but I mostly use my iPad as an iPad without the keyboard, and my MacBook Pro when I need a keyboard, so I think like you I'd probably appreciate just having a slightly more portable device most of the time like you.
Yes indeed! It’s really hard to justify the 13” when you have a MacBook 😅 And somehow, I always feel like I want to get more work done on the 13”, and then run into the limitations of iPadOS. On the other hand, the thin and light form factor of the 13” make it much better than previous models. That screen! 😎 I’ve returned the 13” now, but I already miss it haha.
@ yeah holding it at Apple it was the first time where I was very tempted by the extra screen real estate since it’s so crazy thin and light!
You put the info together nicely!Thank you! :D
You’re very welcome, glad you liked it! 👊
best video on r8 menu very well explain love from india thanks from bottom of heart👌
You’re very welcome! Glad it was helpful 😃
Thanks for this wonderful video. If i want it for street photography and portrait, like 80% in the daytime and 20% night time. Which do you recommend r7 or r8 and which lenses?
Glad you like the video! 😎 Honestly, I'd just go with the full frame sensor of the R8. It's better in every aspect compared to the aps-c on the R7. I think it's just more versatile, especially for your use case. Full frame will work better for wide angle street photography. Just get a spare battery and you'll be set! On the other hand, if you can bump up your budget a bit, the R6 II is the perfect all-round camera, which has all of the advantages of both the R7 and R8, plus some other stuff! In terms of lenses, you can't go wrong with any of the RF glass. For street and portrait, I'd probably get something wide, and something long. I love zoom lenses, so I'd say the RF 14-35 or 15-35 for your wide to regular shots, and the RF 70-200 for portraits. Alternatively, you might get a standard zoom range like the RF 24-105 or 24-70. Hope this helps!
@@coppensbram thanks a lot
Watching this before I buy. 🙂
I have the Canon R8, I would like to record at 120fps in 4k but it only reaches 60fps. Do you know if they will open that menu in time? Thanks friend
Hi! Unfortunately no. It’s even not on the more expensive R6 II. For 4k 120 you need the R5 or R5 II, but that’s a lot more expensive! I do understand why you’d want 120fps though. Here’s the trick I use: record at 4k 60fps, and then in Final Cut Pro slow down the footage 50% with “Smooth Slo-Mo”, which uses AI. If I wanna shoot a video of a whole body of a person with background blurred, which prime les would you recommend for Cannon R7??
Hi there! It depends on the distance you have from the subject. Assuming you mean in a room inside, you’re better off with the wider lenses, like the sigma 16mm, or the wide zooms 10-18 or 11-20. If you’re outside or have more space, you have a bit more flexibility 😊 Hope this helps!
Hi! So the f38 baseplate can attach to arca Swiss stuff. How about arca Swiss baseplates? Do they attach to the F38 Tripod? Thank you
Hi 👋 No, unfortunately that won’t work… you’ll need a F38 base plate on the camera. Ulanzi does have other tripods that work with Arca Swiss though! Take a look at the Zero-Y (my favorite) or TT-09 (video tripod).
@@coppensbram unfortunately I ordered the f38 tripod before checking 😔. So I won't be able to do vertical pano photos with my camera as the L bracket is arca I think... 🤔
Ahhh ok… But maybe you could just get an additional base plate f38, and attach that to your L-bracket and just leave it on?
@@coppensbram I guess that's what I am going to do 😀. I just say the tripod looks really cool and lightweight. Looking forward to bringing it with me toJapan and Bali!
@jd5787 yes it’s pretty awesome - I use it all the time 😎 you’ll definitely be happy with it!
I have the display set to auto rotate for PC and camera, but it doesn’t rotate to portrait from landscape. Any ideas?
That's strange, it should work! How are you transferring to PC? Into an app (eg. Lightroom) directly or first into folders on your disk?
Thanks Bram for your guidance !
You’re very welcome! Let me know if you have any questions 😀
I am team APSC and I like using 50mm F1.8 when is dark and I have to move myself
Definitely a nice lens for low light! 😎
