We are a local independent heating business established in 1993 and based in Gloucestershire. I take a strong personal interest in renewables and well thought out heating technologies. No longer are we expected to be early adopter guinea pigs and put up with poor support, poor reliability and poor performance such as we have had to do in the past. Mainstream manufacturers realise this is thier (and our) future and are coming up with better and more efficient products to vie for our attention. No longer do we have to accept the status quo of gas and oil boilers when there are such great alternatives out there which make solid financial sense - especially now that we are all focussed on our energy bills. The purpose of this channel is to raise awareness of renewables and new and alternative technologies - and to have a little fun.

Revisiting an Air To Air installation: How Much Energy Has It Used?
This week I’m revisiting our recent installation of air to air heat pumps (and a slightly unusual hot water solution) to see how the customer has been getting on.
You might recall in a previous video that we completed the removal of this customers' complete gas fired central heating system and the retrofit of a whole house Daikin air to air heat pump installation. The system consists of seven Daikin FTXA Stylish units and two Daikin MXM series high efficiency outdoor multi split air to air heat pump outdoor units. We also installed a new - and cost effective - instantaneous hot water system by Japanese manufacturer Rinnai. The previous video is here for anyone who wants to catch up - th-cam.com/video/ZCC3iTykhXM/w-d-xo.html
I’m particularly keen to see how the whole system has fitted around the customers lifestyle and whether it has met their expectations so far. We will also be looking at the all important energy usage over the past couple of wintery weeks. Let’s hope I’m met with a warm welcome.

Fitting a Tuffa Fire Resistant Oil Tank: other things that went wrong
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
Instead of keeping you waiting for the next renewables video I thought I'd share a little bit of the dirtier side of the job that we do rather than give you nothing at all! In particular this is the installation of a Tuffa 30 minute fire resistant kerosene heating oil tank. Despite the demand for renewables we still have many customers that are on oil and continue to look after their tanks and ...
Air to Air Heat Pump: better than an Air to Water Heat Pump? We install for a YouTuber to find out!
มุมมอง 42Kปีที่แล้ว
This week we are installing a pair of Daikin MXM series air to air heat pumps for a TH-camr to review. He did consider an air to water system but wanted to go for the air to air due to the flexibility of siting, higher efficiency and ability to use cooling in the summer months. Beware - there may be mild hints and attempts at comedy, or perhaps soft core levity. Whatever. We hope you enjoy it a...
Heat Pumps - They Need Servicing, Right?
มุมมอง 37K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week I strip down and service one of my two Daikin 4MXM series air to air multi split heat pumps. After 18 months of of giving solid service as a replacement for my oil fired central heating system, they need a good clean and thorough inspection. A lot of people can overlook the need to regularly maintain heat pumps to ensure their on-going safety, efficiency and reliability. Any commercia...
Install and chat: Valliant Arostor Heat Pump Hot Water Cylinder (that you can actually buy & afford)
มุมมอง 13K2 ปีที่แล้ว
We've been talking about hot water heat pump cylinders for while. This week we install the Valliant Arostor standalone hot water heat pump unvented system along with a house full of Daikin Multi Split units. There may be chat, and jokes: good, but mostly bad. Any commercial enquiries, queries or questions can be sent directly to me at dameonhillchannel@gmail.com.
Heat Pump Hot Water Cylinders - are they any good?

Daikin Altherma 3 RF Heat Pump - we fit one for the first time
มุมมอง 28K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we fit the new Daikin Altherma 3 RF refrigerant split heat pump with their integrated indoor unit. Most importantly, is it hard to fit and is it any good? Well, let's find out! Any commercial enquiries, queries or questions can be sent directly to me at dameonhillchannel@gmail.com.
Can you run a secondary return on these. Both allow hot water at taps quickly, but also to run a Smiths type plinth heater in the kitchen.
Nice Video !
Hi one question, which connection are there between external and internal unit? Only gas delivery and return tubes ? Gas and water ? Thanks
Excellent video! What cylinder(s) would you suggest coupling with this A2A setup?
I have had one heating my workshop for nearly 20 years. The inside unit gets a fairly regular clean as there is a fair bit of dust from woodworking. The outside unit gets a regular wash every time it de-ices and gets a vac out in the autumn. Maintenance has been the replacement of a swing actuator, a compressor capacitor and a fan capacitor and a reversing valve solenoid coil. All cheap enough as DIY jobs. Never had anyone check the refrigerant. Like many people have found it's not much use in icing conditions (temp and dewpoint both just above zero C). Fine in cold, dry conditions.
Very informative and well-made video! How loud is this unit? Can it be heard from the inside (where the window is)?
@19:19 high and low pipes were put TOGETHER in a thin cover and taped tight assuring contact between hot and cold pipes reducing overall system efficiency significantly. These little details may seem insignificant to most installers but actually reduce the system life and efficiency while increasing the running costs.
Interesting to see that your heatpump isn’t installed as per Diakin specifications it has less than 300mm gap between the wall and the back of the heatpump and is too close to the wall on the right.
Show us the gas and electric bills before and after and cost of installation.
Nearly 400KW just on heating and hot water per month? Twice as much as my whole electric bill per month which includes electric cooker and shower. To heat the house to 22c my gas bill is £60/month using a gas boiler. Think of all that money he had paid out to pay higher bills. Madness!
Hi there, do air to air heat pump mini split systems qualify for the government boiler replacement scheme grant?
As far as I know they do not because they can be run in cooling mode and the government don't want to encourage that. Perhaps there are A2A units that run heating mode only that might qualify but I have not seen any.
@@ColinMill1 ah right yes that makes sense thank you
Current standing charge for gas costs around £100/year. We use LPG instant water heaters and around one 47kg bottle of gas/year at ~£80/bottle (delivered) so we get all our hot water cheaper then the standing charge! True, there are only the two of us but I haven't worked out what the fees would be for a larger family (double?) - still cheap. The standing charge is ridiculous.
As a retired fridge and a/c engineer with 30 years experience, i would never put on the gauges unles there's a problem. To check gas charge, get all indoor units running full bat and check tempreture difference between air flow and return. If gas charge is okay , temp. diff. should be at least 10 degrees c
Regarding split a/c, how do you heat a bathroom
Consider this cylinders Pros & Cons, Small compressor leading to long reheat times, Can't use BUS grant £7,500, do you really want a compressor in an airing cupboard upstairs running for hours, big and bulky, large ducting to install. Pros self containined unit only useful in commercial set up eg hair dresser shop (lots of warm air). Do not get confused with a heat pump cylinder that energised by a ASHP will knock spots of this in every way.
Nice video. What is the pressure should be while checking refrigerant level?
The Controlling interface console is a joke. Does anyone has successfully integrate this in to the home Assistant ?
Finally! It’s amazing to see such an experienced engineer with a wealth of experience providing content. Clear and informative and your free music doesn’t want me to gouge my ears out. Subscribed and engaged. Thank you sir
Nice video. Thanks!
Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina...great job you did with the Altherma...beautiful machine, that machine has not arrived here yet, from Daikin...greetings friend, good luck
When we buy the dam thing should have a course on how to service ourselves. Not worth the cost
why would you set a weather dependant curve for underfloor heating and another for radiators when you fit a low loss header?as your thermostats can be calling for both underfloor and radiators together and all water is mixed in the low loss header anyway, but in general a nice job,
Just wondering if the indoor units require an isolation switch also as well as the outdoor units? I'm hearing conflicting information
Hi , how has this held up? Have you returned for servicing? any issues from the last year?
Excellent video, good job
Hi! Just discovered your channel. Are you satisfied with the Arostor? I also want to purchase one. Thanks!
This is only for hot water, and not for heating yes ? Could such a system be used for home heating too ?

I would also use a rubber gasketed flare cap with a small hole drilled into the cap to test the Schraeder valve tightness after the system has refrigerant pressure. I would not introduce leak soap into the Schraeder valve cavity. Then I would replace with the factory caps.
I would also place the micron gauge as far away from the vacuum pump as possible. This means on the liquid line valve in this case. You may have 63 microns at the pump location but a higher reading on the liquid line valve. Granted, you have short lines and a deep vacuum here but as a rule of thumb I would want the micron gauge as far away from the vacuum pump as possible.
I would also exercise the valves on the core removal tool to allow any air to be released from the valve. I would do this before starting the vacuum pump each time.
great job and use of the latest tools Bravo!! I would add a nitrogen sweep initially however before the first vacuum. Why not take advantage of the dry nitrogen pressure to push the oxygen and any water vapor out before starting the vacuum.
nice video but I would never put a set of gauges on an Inverter Heat Pump. You loose refrigerant and because it is critically charged it affects the system greatly. Access sensors from Fieldpiece or Yellow Jacket are available that will hook up Bluetooth to your phone and if needed you can hook up a short 3-foot hose to them if you need to adjust charge. Also, the indoor units need to be properly power washed and then rinsed properly including the drain pan. The blower wheel needs to be removed and cleaned as well. There are kits to do this work to protect the walls and floors. I know these units are only 18 months old but when they get 2 or 3 years old, they will need a more in-depth cleaning as I have described.
isn’t the electric connections too close the r290 I thought it had to be at least 2 ft away in case of spark as part of U.K. code requirements
Really enjoying these videos!
Which no loss valves have you got?
Just wondering if there was any news on the Daikin. Multi-split hot water solution available in the uk yet? I’ve got a granny annexe that I’m putting air2air in but still need a small hot water solution for a bathroom and kitchenette
nice work :) how much high pressure should be in heating side bar? and how much low pressure should be in evaporator bar? thanks in advance
I think Ryan is your equivalent of Jeremy Clarksons Kaleb😁
i would have thought mixing with cold water just means less water needs to be heated so it's a zero-sum game. surely the inefficiency comes from losing heat while it sits in the tank but i think i heard him say that's minimal nowadays.
Our Gov wants everyone on HeatPumps, but flats are a difficult area to convert. A to A would be an ideal solution.
No update? I suspect if the claims made about heat pumps were true there would have been an update crowing about it.
What kind of wet vaccum cleaner do you use?
Give him a Daikin t-shirt.
Would good to see more content from your channel.
Fascinating stuff and further convinces me to go air to air. My mini split system has a SCOP of 4.1 and it produces a much more pleasant heat, albeit it was bought for its cooling capability. So in theory with my respective cost/kw for gas and electricity it should be approximately 20% cheaper to run than gas. Unfortunately I do not have a COP value so perhaps my figures are slewed but unlike gas heating the wait time is pretty much instant and I actually achieve setpoint which is something the gas system struggles to do.
Very tidy work, I liked the care and attention with the pipe flares and use of grips which don't mark the brass nuts.
Why do people who install heat pumps always seem to have a huge water cylinder? Unless someone has a bath every day no one needs much hot water - showers are about the only thing and a simple 10.5 kw electric shower does the job. Big waste of space and so much pipework for no reason.
Because a big cylinder can store enough water at a lower temp for a family to use. This means the pump can run at optimal efficiency. A hw tank fed by a traditional system can be much hotter and therefore smaller.
Personally if I was keeping tools in the garage (as this client was) I would have had piped both the inlet and exhaust to outside. I think you overlooked the impact on the dew point in the garage.
Any updates on this system?
