Im an artist, I can make over 100$ a day if I set my mind to it, art involves creativity and skill, just like making an anthropomorphic character or suit. All a furry is is just someone who is interested, or wanting to make or veiw anthropomorphic animals. It's not necessarily weird as over 90% of fandoms with art in them have ocs relating to that fandom, like gravity falls. People make ocs for that show, people making anthropomorphic animal ocs is only different in the species and design. It's literally just an oc. Harry potters an oc, woody Is an oc, oc means original character, nothing else. That's what furries do and have. Ocs.
