Subbing Dyed Grizzly For Intruder Wings
I can’t believe more people don’t tie tube flies
Why do you need two sizes of tubes? I’ve always just left the back long and got the hook holder tubing to match. I could be doing it wrong though haha
It's just the traditional way the tubes have been put together. What you're doing works just fine.
How do u get this fly to sink well there's no weight. 3 foot leader off a T14?
That's a really cool looking intruder! Thanks for the trick for tying ostrich loop, I really enjoyed the tutorial.
Hahaha I always like your videos, then I find one based on an Adicts song!?!? So cool, thanks Jason
Thanks for the support and taking the time to comment. Gunna go to PRB in '25 to see them! Viva the revolution!
very nice , thank you.
Your doing great!! Hang in there.Keep this in mind...Your probably fishing water i only think about.Great concept on the layout design.I use a Terra ex large Bobbin.Inexpensive.Not going to cost me 50.00 bucks a pop.Works great.I have a feeling having your best freind knawing away is not helping.Relax and enjoy a great tie.Thank You
I love Jerry and appreciate his contribution to our sport, but goddamn there’s way too much information in his tying videos. I really don’t think it needs to be this complicated. Makes my head spin trying to keep up 😂
It’s an interview, plenty of other intruder videos, but most folks coming to watch Jerry tie it want to know the hows and whys
Judging by the singing, you’ve missed your true calling 😂
Agreed! My neighbor likes my singing so much, he threw a rock through my window just to hear me better.
@ 😂
wow that was a great video share. very nice
great video share, thank u
Alot of work , but a beautiful result!
so do you put your line through it and attach a hook? does it slide up and down the line or do you use a weight stopper or something similar?
Yes, you slide your leader through. I use a loop knot. The knot rests where the small and large tubes meet. Then I'll loop on an octopus hook, typically a #2. I want the bend of the hook to be even with the end of the strip
Very time consumming fly ..looks good but way to long to tye for a guide s fly ....
This is a platform, you can add or take away whatever you want, honestly though if you tie these enough they don’t take long at all. There’s a reason this fly changed the game but at the end of the day fish what you want
Very nice!
Appreciate it!
Thank you ! We watch! I wonder if that would work in black and blue? ( that's a joke) .
@mttrout1969 actually, lol, the 1st video was black and blue but my shirt was black so you couldn't see anything.
@theportlandflyshop love your tying video's. You might have the best library of steelhead ties on u tube. Thank you!
Why do old punks like standing on the river all day? The white noise helps us with our tinnitus
Ain't that the truth..
@trails4all yes, lol, our bodies are broken.
The best steelhead fly tier on TH-cam. Loads of bad ass steelhead flies. Great channel. Check this guy out
Thanks so much! It really means the world to us that you find value in the tying vids and took the time to leave a comment. Hopefully see ya on a river soon! -Jason
Can I get a tie video for this? Or is it a freestyle one?
@@SISkagitAmateur89 that fly is just a classic intruder. I can do a video for sure
@@theportlandflyshop proportions, profile, and colour scheme are, as Borat would say, “very nice”.
Owner Gorilla light #2 - cheap at Walmart and a very good hook. I try to buy often at local fly shops, but hooks for intruders are way overpriced frankly, and good hooks can be had at the Supercenter
This is one of the coolest, innovative fly patterns I've seen in a while. Hats off! Very fishy. Would love to see a swim video!
Very cool looking pattern, and very realistic looking. I have been wanting to ask about the tubing on the ultra rig you put on a number of your patterns. I get that it keeps the hook riding where you want it to be; but does it limit the possibility of changing out the hook if needed?
@scottconstable2352 it makes it tougher than plain wire for sure, but has more added benefits overall. When you need to change hooks, cut the bad hook at the bend, slide the tubing straight off. Loop on fresh hook and slide the tubing over the new hook from the point, over the braid and on the shank.
Great stuff, definitely giving that a go👍
Wow, nice fly.
Thanks for sharing this cool pattern! Happy Thanksgiving to you and family and tight lines!
Great video, just thinking about visiting the store this holiday season to use a gift card I was saving from last year and bam this video was on first up this morning.
A lot to take in,thank you
How on earth do you get a bead over 2 layers of braid and the doubled over shank?!
A few things. First, the 50lb power pro is one of the thinner braids to work with, then, you'll want a bead with a big enough hole. The 3/16 & 7/32 are typically all that fit. Last, usr the round eye shanks from aqua. The doubled over wire shanks won't work.
@theportlandflyshop thank you for the quick and detailed response! I hadn't realized it was a different shank.
I find it easier to fold the trailing wire back towards the eye to get the length.
good to find you, just finished a guided trip with Brian Light from The Portland Fly Shop, and hooked two steelies. Will make a visit to your fly shop!
What total length …. Back of hook to eye of shank do you like?
2-1/2 inches for normal conditions, 3" for dirty water
@@theportlandflyshop that’s not including the length of hook ? I like a short steelhead fly but a 2 1/2 “ intruder (total length) would be really small.
@@gwarren3 2 -1/2 to 3" seems to be the sweet spot for me
Beavis and Butthead had a daughter who tied flies in Portland. It is a expert 🤫🫨🫨😯🤘🤘😵💫😵💫🥴🥱🥱😴
Mind. Blown.
Just came across your video. Not sure which I like better. The fly or the music!! Guess I’ll have to the one up and give it a try here in Minnesota
Thanks a ton. The Band is called "the insanitizers" local band here. Let me know how it works for ya out there!
This is awesome! Great video.
I would use an X-Acto saw blade the fits the X-Acto handle , that would probably work real well and also sub with balsa wood
Hi , Still making this line ? Can not find it on the web site, thanks !!
We are trying tonre negotiate the terms to make more. They upped my minimum to 500 per grain weight, which is a ton. Hopefully we can get them made soon
What length shank is ideal for the tie?
I like 2.5" - 3". If you are going after kings or are in water with a good amount of color you can definitely go bigger.
33mm is my normal length.
Perfect! Do you guys ship internationally? Getting some flys sorted for a trip to Greenland
are you a fan of the loon uv light. I've got a small loon travel light it does not seem to set the resin. Thoughts?
The little nano light struggles. The bench light is good, but you'll have to check the battery often. If the battery is low, it will still light the LED, but won't do whatever voodoo it needs to cure. Try a fresh battery and see if it cures for you.
@@theportlandflyshop I was thinking battery issue. What about the notion of different lights for different resins … ie loon or solareze. Do you need a light for each brand?
I haven't found that to be necessary at all. The loon light will cure everything I've used so far, including pro, solrez, and raidzap
Is there any reason you cannot simply remove the hook until you're done with the fly?
You can, for sure, but keeping the hook on helps with measuring porpotions.
funny don't worry you have a fellow asshole here great fly
Dumb question but what are you tying on? It looks like a triangular file. New to tube flies.
Not dumb at all. It's a tube needle, made specifically for tube flies. Each brand will have their own to fit their specific tube. The Aqua Flies and Pro Tube are the only ones I know of that are the same.
Thanks Jason good video. Great another dubbing tool I don't need coming my way thanks bro. I'll see you in April unless you hire me lol
well that looks really good
Thanks Rob
I was under the impression that natural jungle cock was illegal to import or sell. Is that incorrect?
Dirty and nice. Love it! Roots!
I'm grateful to learn the small tips and efficiency hacks that you provide. I'm doing a halfway decent job with making the Ultra Squids. However, the shortcuts that I can concentrate on to master are super important and time saving in the long run.
freaking awesome video. It's impressive that you can fit that much stuff on a 20mm shank
Awsome tie
Outstanding video...thanks, Jason.
Did you ever try adding chromatic brush or arctic fox tail into the Lady Amherst section of the forward hackle? The teaser video that OPST released with Jerry tying shows a MUCH heavier hackle in that section. Nice tie! Going to be messing with this a lot
I love the chromatic brushes. I haven't used fox in this fly, but use it in a ton of others. You can use this video as a base, but go hog wild and explore other materials that you like. Options are limitless.
@@theportlandflyshop Thanks! Just trying to analyze the little info thats out there on this fly! I think it’s the coolest looking squid/intruder I’ve seen. Jerry’s proportions and translucent effects he gets on this and the dirty hoh are hard to replicate haha. It looked like there might be some sort of fox in the original OPST video in that section of the loop
@JAL94 there easily could have. I talked to Jerry at length before I did this video and took his recipe at that time, but, he evolves his patterns regularly. What this start as are not the same as they end up. He's always evolving
@@theportlandflyshop Thanks for the reply! It’s such a dope fly. My wallet is about to get a little lighter haha
@JAL94 for sure! Thanks for watching! If we can help in any way, say the word
