I just tested this in java (happened to be in my redstone world when I saw this) and it works to turn it off in java as well. Didn't even occur to me to put the lever on that block for some reason. Thank you for figuring this out and letting me know! I'll add this in my description for the video for others as well.

The first time you flick it, this will happen but it shouldn't happen after the first time. You can change the Redstone clock (the observer, dropper, redstone dust) with another clock that gives a slower pulse if it's not working as intended. If needed, I do have a tutorial on different redstone clocks. The comparator clock should work well as a replacement.

Awesome suggestions! I have a few different versions of this I've used throughout the year, this one is one of the simpler ones and I figured it would be good for a starter tutorial. TH-cam has been odd the last few years with how it recommends my videos. 2016-2019 it would promote my videos a decent amount, I just wasn't focused on making videos back then. It's starting to get better though. I might make a more "advanced" version tutorial in the future similar to what you've suggested. I've always enjoyed railhubs in minecraft and there's a lot of neat things you can do with redstone.

Creaking are supposed to only create resin if you or your pet are the ones that hit it. Damage from anything else is supposed to do nothing as far as resin. Have not tried pistons but if they do work they aren't supposed to and I would expect Mojang to patch that.

The first part of the tutorial is the same and when the design changes I point it out for those that want to make the simpler one. There's also pixlriff's tutorial, which is the simpler one, in the description if you'd prefer. The tutorial doesn't start until about 3/5 of the way through the video if you do watch his. I can always make a video on the simpler only if wanted.
