The information on the tour was not added to the game in 2023 but earlier, in 2021. This was the first tour in Jorvik where it was heard.On the birthday of 2021. I don't think catherine has anything to do with the castle. Catherine's memories are here because we are on the Light Ride and that is where we first meet her. The ghost that is spoken of during the light ride is referring to Catherine and not the castle. After all, we meet her on the Light Ride. I think that the pre 2019 update version cannot be the old building, and the explanation is simple, as they have been renovating the grounds for a number of years now, so it was obvious that this would be removed. So the old version has no meaning. The video is very good❤

I'm watching this video just now while the Halloween event is going on and next week we are getting quests involving werewolves (vampires too iykyk) which you mentioned at 8:08 those quests will also supposedly take place in Golden Hills more specifically at the place the Light ride/Haunted trail ride takes place which made me think that maybe these quests will have something to do with the castle?? (now i don't want to get high expectations because the last "cryptid hunting" quests with Scott (jakalope quest(s)) were pretty short and these will infact just be an event quests but still maybe it will have something to do with the castle or will at least give us another piece of lore for it 🧐

Just like Dino Valley and the still closed off area Ashland at the end of the valley Marchenhast castle is a forgotten factor in the game. The endless storyline possibility's Marchenhast castle, Ashland, Dino Valley, The Icengate to the Kallters homeland, North Jorvik, Wildwoods and Jorvik city have is amazing. Yet the game doesn't seem to care about expanding the map, the sub storylines, the main storyline, lore and create actual content. All they care about is making money these days. And that only happens through players buying new horse. And that's okay but at the same time they should be busy making content so that players who bought new horses and tack can bring them along on the adventure. If the game will only be focussed about making money and not actual content for players to explore all players will quit playing.

Medieval event next year?

I don’t think that star stable has left Ashland at all. I think it will be probably one of the places which will be released last. It wouldent make sense if our character got into Ashland, but not into the area above golden hills valley and silverglade (forgot the name). I think it’ll be released maybe when we actually fight garnok like.. if we literally ever do xD .. 😂 I feel like nothing is happening in the main storyline at all atm tho idk

THANK YOU for this video, I recently became super interested in the strange small tower on the hill and the tall stone bridge in between the mountains that I keep seeing in old videos, and tried to research when exactly it was removed (and what was beyond it, and if one could get there). You did all the job for me and even better, so thank you ever so much for this comprehensive documentary! ❤ I honestly like both the old and the new appearance of the castle. The old one suited the old SSO, the new one though suits the modern SSO far better and it has a bit different, but still mysterious vibe in a way. I like the slightly uncanny vibe the old structures are giving (also because they were inaccessible to players and you had to glitch through), but on the other hand, the modern castle has a much more grandness and glory to it while still remaining mystic. Also, the old version doesn't seem very user-friendly for us doing anything there, it was probably planned more as a ruin or a remnant of the past, a place to stay desolate forever that we can perhaps visit in the future but nothing beyond it. Whereas the new castle looks like something that we can interact with later - it looks much more like something we can unlock, a place where NPCs may be living and possibly also a home stable and/or races can take place. So I think SSO was/is doing good job in both versions! 🙂

Thank so much for making this video! it was so interesting to watch, you did an amazing job with it. I have a theory/update I wanted too share with you. In Fort Maria there is a painting with a volcano in the back ground. I talk about it in a video I made, but didn't focus on it. I thought you might like to ad it in to this somehow or you might be able to make a short about it. anyways the paining is located in the Grand Hall. I am thinking the painting is what Ashland looked like before the volcano erupted.

Maybe we'll hear something about it along with the medieval outfits that are soon coming to the game?

Read your Reddit post about this too, and I totally agree with you. I think in the update coming on the 21st of August would be about this, but probably not yet. I’m actually really glad they’ve done some main story quests recently, but they’ve been a bit lazy? Anyway, my predictions for the 21st would be that we have an encounter with the dark riders and (not literally) katja or whoever else tells us to piss off and that they are ready for battle in somewhere in Jorvik. (not Ashland though) and the player has a MEGA load of soul training with ALL of the ‘powers’. Erissa could spy on us with her dolls and the quest could end there. Cliffhanger, huh? 😂

I believe Nick Stoneground was on his way to Ashland but crashed in the snow according to him in a quest.

To be honest it seems like sso doesn't even know it's own lore anymore. The last few years all they seem to care about is making money and that only happens through creating new horses and getting players to buy them. Unfortunately storylines and quests don't sell. That's probaly why they don't develop their storyline and sub storylines that often anymore. Ashland seems to have been created with the idea to open it once they developed Dino valley more. But ever since the release of the hidden valley notthing has happened to it. They did nothing with all the mysterious like the Icengate, the Ice witch, the Kallters, the Yeti etc. Dino valley could possibly have had the best storyline in the game if the old team/ the new team now did something with the area and the storyline. But like it's mysterious Dino valley has up till today remained a total mystery that hasn't been discovered to it's fullest. It's a shame because I have waited all these years untill Star stable continued the mysterious storyline around the valley of snow.

Just to make sure the castle is still not unlocked yet? No quest for it? Also another quest regarding the main story line. After alex gets taken by druids after trying to find a new house for anne what quest to you have to do to unlock the next main quest? I can’t seem to figure out which and is driving me nuts lol

looking back at this documentary rn and omg i'm so sorry about the audio 😭several ppl have brought up how the music is too loud and my voice is too quiet and i'm definitely gonna fix that in the next one!! aaah i understand how annoying it is and i feel really bad XD

It's so sad, SSO had so much time and potential, yet they barely used it to their full advantages. It's been so long, at this point I think it's too late :(

Thanks for the video! I haven’t really noticed how much it has been mentioned over the years. One suggestion: I had to turn up the audio to 80% to be able to hear you (normally about 50% for yt videos) and in comparison the music in between was pretty loud.

i noticed recently when i explored the road to ashland that there is no longer a notification when you walk towards it and now the road is renamed. maybe something is coming soon?

Really enjoyed your documentary! I forgot we got all this info about Marchengast castle. Interesting theories, I feel sso intended quite a dark story for this castle at first. I didn't even remember the lights there being on at night. Perhaps a dark influential family in Jorvik doing black magic that got out of hand. Maybe they summoned a demon which is still there bound to the castle, still howling. I think this would be a complete new storyline and that most Jorvik citizens have forgotten about Marchengast castle. Perhaps some still have knowledge of legends or stories from there, Herman probably. Could be a great story with a lot of twists. Something seemingly innocent luring us in, asking for help, turning out to be evil after all. Something else actually innocent still trapped which we actually would need to save. Having to do a ritual to send the demon back and close the portal, which is very dangerous. No proof or whatsoever, this is just the story that pops into my head when I think about Marchengast castle.

think about it, we got devil's gap just recently, why wouldn't we get ashland too?

I believe mr Sands lives in the Marchenghast Castle and it's the equivalent of the Pine Hills mansion where he originally lived in.

7:30, Eleanor Nightwalker has this theory about the Buttergood family being vampires, so go check it out if your interested in learning more, SSO also hinted it. Could it mean that the Winterwells are werewolf's or spellcasters? Eleanor Nightwalker mentioned the Winterwells possibly being werewolf's in one of her other videos? I personally think there Spellcasters or Wizards, because Ricky Winterwells Jor- Jitsu battle? Sorry if this doesn't make sense I though I would add it on, because of the strange " werewolf like" noises.

I hope to see you continue! your voice is really nice, and the editing is super well done also. you cover such interesting topics too, I've been playing for an extremely long time and have wondered about alot of this!

I actually think the leaf texture update is the result of replacing the old texture file with the new one. Let me rephrase. When you replace a file, all the terrain built with that texture would update depending on how they have done it. This would just mean that they have reused said texture in Ashland if true (which it most likely is imo).
