You will fall in love with rural Nicaragua in the mountains above Matagalpa | Rancho Luz de Luna
This is what it's like to wake up in the mountains of rural Nicaragua. Matagalpa is magical: imagine being able to step outside of your house in the morning and pick your own bananas and coffee... If you're a birdwatcher, you'll be in paradise as you'll be surounded by oropendolas, magpie jays, hummingbirds, parrots, kiskadees, social flycatchers and many more species.
I took the village road to the main Jinotega highway just so that we know where to wait for the bus that goes to town. The next morning, I walked towards the opposite direction from Luz de Luna and deeper into the village. A few bird species can be seen in the video although the footage is poor. I wasn't equipped for professional bird photography but the nature effect was still there. Just remember that in order to fully enjoy Nicaraguan nature, you must be willing to endure long walks on uphills.
Enjoy the video and please remember to like and subscribe !!!

This was the most economical way to go from Leon to Matagalpa, Nicaragua | Open air market in Leon

Have you ever wondered what's the cheapest way to travel around Nicaragua? It's undoubtedly the so-called "chicken buses", the refurbished old American school buses... Just make sure to take the "express" bus because the regular variety will be stopping at every corner and your journey will take forever. We started at the bus terminal in Leon and the road up the mountains to Matagalpa was sceni...

The beautiful beach in Las Penitas/Poneloya was ours to enjoy one last time. We found a local eatery and spent some time there, enjoying seafood dishes. This was a beach day: pretty much every day is like that in Nicaragua. We took the local bus from the barrio of Subtiaba in Leon to the beach in Poneloya. I respect your opinions, but maybe you should consider that much of the world is simply happy to survive. Seriously. That Nicaraguans seem preoccupied with 'less important' thing and maybe could 'do better' is a very European/US-Centric way of looking at things. If you ask Nicas, they will tell you FAMILY is the most important thing. Whether the street is swept or the buses are on time... not quite so important. Things work, and that's good enough for now. If someone was embargoing our economy, trying to overthrow OUR government, or if they had mined our harbors or our forests while supporting anti-US guerillas... then maybe we wouldn't be so concerned with thread counts in our sheets and if Popeye's has the best chicken sandwich. I am moving to Nicaragua soon, and I am fine with the pace of life, the lack of urgency and the benign neglect that seems so much a part of Central America. I am tired of the rat race and the consumerism. I am moving to a remote town where people still ride horses to get around, and I am fine with that! Please, be an observer and not a judge, especially if the people you are judging are good people. There is an old Spanish saying that reflects the way the US treats Nicaragua: "You always hate those you have hurt the most!" Just like Cuba, we punish the people because we hate their leaders.

    Reminds me of the street markets in China and SE Asia where I lived for a while when I was younger. With the fish market you either get there within the first hour of them bringing in the catch or forget it. lol Anyway, planning a retirement scouting trip shortly to Nicaragua. My retirement budget won't be a million dollars. I lived a cheap, basically glorified backpacker, lifestyle when I was a kid in SE Asia. Let's see if I can be happy doing it as an older person. Nobody spoke even a single word of English... that was extremely disappointing in a tourist and expat mecca like San Juan and especially from young people, wouldn't you agree? There will be some night scenes on the streets of San Juan as well as Leon... But we didn't really go clubbing.

      Even at the hotel they told us that La Polvora was closed... there was probably work being done on the inside.

    Hi. Are you always that nervous? I walked one month, even at nighttime in El Salvador back in 2008 and my head stayed straight on my shoulder. Yours keep going from one side to the other. Are you sure you are going to make it? I went to that La Fise Bancentro in Chinandega just a few days ago .They only gave me 31 córdobas for each American dollars I exchanged. Since the President had frozen the rate around 36.5 I believe I never even bothered to check the receipt. Please do... 04:10 Don't tell me it's closed? With a motorcycle in front and wooden doors open? 05:11 This is getting more and more hilarious... Do you speak some English? And the man at the door says: very little (muy poco)... So... you go on and on in English as if the recipient was a native... :)

      Hi, thanks for commenting ! It's just a habit of scanning my surroundings on busy streets and intersections, places where a lot of things (not necessarily bad) can happen simultaneously... I like to absorb as much information as possible and do the same thing in Montreal, Canada :)

      @@LeoJaramaz Nah... ;) Montreal on the dangerous list for travellers?

    • @LeoJaramaz
      @LeoJaramaz 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of course not, and neither is Nicaragua. I don't think that any place in the world is dangerous unless you walk straight into a war zone. My point was that I'm looking around not because I'm nervous or scared but simply to be aware of my suroundings and maintain a dynamic feeling: it helps me stay sharp and agile.
