This is not accurate. Rotterdam has different areas that suits different needs even in the centre.

If that’s so. I’d rather go to Delft or Amsterdam cause I’m a slow paced person who hates hustling.

Amsterdam has more character and feels more adventurous and lively IMO. Rotterdammers feel cocky like they think they're better than the world

There are many people who practice honest communication with respect, who learn how to manage their money based on their needs because they come from challening financial situations, there are people who practices to live a simple life that doesnt involve overspending and standing out,but just do simple things for the people around you and live a simple life. It amazes me how according to some people, the Dutch have monopoly on these kind of characteristics, it is like no other country or nobody else on mother earth knows how to live this way!

rotterdam is rebuild after the WWII, thats why there isnt that old feel like amsterdam or any other bigger city's around

Observation: You are young, and I think you are a US citizen . In the USA the government has its own bureaucracy : consider the VA and Social Security and the Military and education . Most of those are all time consuming and seriously frustrating to deal with . The courts are even worse where 2 plus years may go by before a case gets heard. As Dutchman who moved to the States as an adult more than 40 years ago at least in part to escape the 'red tape' I have learned that RED TAPE is a human foible we have not , and probably never will rid ourselves of !

Bureaucracy ! Hahahaha have you ever been in South America or Asia or South of Europe. I guess not. Yes you can speed things up in those countries but at a cost! Here in Holland we don not accept any kind of short cuts. You can act special but will not automaticaly be treated special. When there are elections even the Prime Minister has to show his ID in front of all the cameras when he is at the polling station. Friendships dont evolve fast in any country. Otherwise it doesn t mean that much. So thats nonsense and has nothing to do with Dutch people.

Dutch Directness is generally fine. It's Dutch opinionatedness that makes it obnoxious. We have opinions more than we have in-depth knowledge (really, the actual number of opinions is higher). I know I should be more aware of that sometimes, and many others should as well. Which is an opinion in itself, so that proves I can't help myself... 😅

I cant take anyone serious who goes to the ruined provinces, north and south holland. they are ruined by expats and foreigners and tourism. Its a perspective on any touristic hub. But completely out of touch with the north, east and south of the nation. your <25% of the country at best doesnt relate to this country. Most of us do not agree with the politics in the holland provinces or their parties. and most who live in those provinces vote for other parties than the rest of the nation would see. Most left extreme ones reside in Amsterdam, rotterdam and utrecht. so you enjoyed some of the least efficient, most ruined, least original dutch culture and provinces.

The dutch make friends in their youth and teens then you become a disposable acquaintance . Only after years and years of knowing some one you might become friends otherwise acquaintance. A merchant country of sailors friendships are disposable out of sight out of mind .

I loved my day in Rotterdam when visiting the Netherlands 🇳🇱 from the UK 🇬🇧. It’s similar to London, hustle and bustle fast paced life. I love it. I see myself residing there for some time. The cost of living is just the same as London also separated neighbourhoods. Plus learning Dutch would be interesting.

Born and raised. Left 10 years ago. Will never move back.
