Sonic Frenzy , Jungle Core- Has SA2 , or Sonic Advanced/Rush, Megaman, Castlevania, Deus Ex vibe
If there’s even just 1 extra life monitor in a stage you can just farm points meaning this statement is pointless and sonic 2 is better!
I've 'always' (well not always) wanted someone to do a 70's HiFi review of all the stereo systems showing up in Starsky and Hutch. While this isn't that, it's the closest thing I've seen.
For an all emeralds run, does anyone have a nice letter grade scale to compare?
Worth mentioning for anyone who was a fan of True Crime and didn't know, it did have a third game in the form of Sleeping Dogs!
"If you didn't play Cyberpunk without taking a single hit, did you really play the game at all?"
What a foolish comment. You make it seem like the way score/performance is calculated is the same between Sonic and Cyberpunk. Put another way: Beating a level without taking a hit is a totally different animal between Sonic 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. So yeah, your straw man take reveals your poor comprehension.
great vid nice william blake reference lol
Great video!
Sopranos bonus video
unique video.
first i watched an hour video about gaming in the sopranos universe, and now another hour about sonic 3, i love this channel, btw personally i prefer Sonic 2 over all others i think its pinnacle game design (yes even metropolis)
This needs half a million views wow
Concise explanation for the mellow mode argument: Rings were added into Sonic at the last minute to help balence the difficulty, not only did they help less-skilled players, but they were designed so that players who didn't get hit would be rewarded with Special Stages and big Jackpots for keeping as many as they could. So when you just use ring invincibility to cheese a bossfight, that's a valid way to play, but you're ultimately opting out of fully engaging with the boss.
Were they actually added last minute? Do you have a source? It makes a lot of sense.
TH-cam randomly recommended me this, guess this is my sign to finally watch the sopranos. Very well edited I’m surprised you don’t have more subs
Great way to look back at the Sopranos. Didn't realize there was a running theme with these!
What a unique topic, who would've guessed? Always love seeing a lineage of someone's gaming journey, even a fiction one. Makes you wonder if one of the crew members or their kids had these titles at the times.
Wouldn't be surprised....sometimes real life tastes influenced the characters' attire. Robert Iler, who played AJ on the show, came to the set one day wearing a Pantera shirt, and David Chase used that fact itself to decide that AJ's character would wear pantera shirts. Sooo perhaps Robert Iler was a Mario Kart fanatic!
This is best Sopranos analysis video on TH-cam IMO
perfect job on the video!
This is the Secret Video!
If Sonic 3’s point was maximising score, they wouldn’t put insane score bonus as coming at exactly 9:59. This is ridiculous
I think both trying to maximize your score while aiming for the best time bonus, and maximizing score even if it means skirting the 10 minute barrier were both intended ways to play.
Back then, before internet leaderboards, nobody cared about a scoring system not being perfectly balanced. You can simply choose the avoid the 9:59 bonus.
Bro got a “high score” and wants to boast about it by saying “anybody who doesn’t play for score can’t enjoy Sonic 3&k and doesn’t have a valid opinion on the game” 😂😂😂
you sound like Todd Alquist from breaking bad
What game is that in the thumbnail?
Entire video gotta be satirical
Try playing score attack and you’ll realize it isn’t.
@@kingstarscream320 I have and it has it's fun; however, proclaiming that playing without these random ass rules is deemed as "mellow mode" is self-entitled nonsense. To act as if we, who have played this game rigorously for DECADES and perfected our runs, are somehow "bad" at the game and are playing on easy mode is ridiculous. I'm very good at this game and just because I enjoy running through the stages at high speeds (which is clearly intended by level design) doesn't mean it's a worse way to play. Obviously, SEGA stands for Service Games and they made arcade games, so they created a score system to compare high scores, not for this. It's a cool challenge but to discredit 99% of players' opinions who don't play with your strict rules of "no special stages, no elemental shields" and whatever else, it's just ridiculous. If i spend too much time exploring and get a time of 9:59 I just get 100,000 points, clearly playing this way is unintentional. I would say that aiming for the lowest time possible is a more objective measure of skill, especially in a level like Flying Battery Act 1. I would have no complaints if this clickbait and self-righteous video was called, "A New Way of Appreciating Sonic 3" or "Giving Sonic 3 more Content" and not being so weird and self-entitled the entire video, but obviously, it wouldn't garner the same amount of views.
@@hamard1027Score needs to be a part of it, because aiming for time alone encourages the players the cheese bosses and use glitches, which obviously weren’t intended.
FINALLY someone is actually caring about points. I practiced Sonic CD over and over again until I could break the scoreboard by getting over 1,000,000 points, and that was one of the most fun and challenging gaming experiences I’ve had to date. The score adds so much to the games that have one, it’s essentially a different version of a ranking system
This game would've made sense for CD, but S3andK??? No. The score may be in the manual but this is half an hour of a man discussing about score, and yes the mellow mode is the core game.
Came out of this video with a whole new appreciation for Sonic 3, was really shocked to see all the hurt egos in the replies. Saying that there's a whole wealth of design that's gone unexamined by most players and if you're not talking about it then you're not critiquing the game to its fullest is extremely reasonable and also really cool. I've been banging the "Sonic 1 is better without a spindash" drum for years, glad to hear someone else on the same page. I really want a no spindash romhack for Sonic 2 now...
y'all save yourselfes these 47 minutes of nothing, this dude is just going unnecessarily in depth on the score system and treating it like if it was a life changeing discovery
Bet you never knew half of it.
Kindly fuck off. I'll play how I want instead of "Speedrunning is the only way to play." Mr. I use dog shit filters on old genesis games.
He does score attack, not speed run, and he clearly said there are many valid ways to play. Get your ears checked.
4:42 Sonic is a Kid's Franchise looking for the Edgy Teens, it's been there the whole Franchise. The Final Boss Fights in 1 and 2 take off the Kitty Gloves
Too many butthurt Zoomers in the comment section.

This video reeks of gatekeepong
Nope, you just suck at the game.
@@kingbullyrock8739 It really is just gate keeping. He wants his made up challenge rule set to be worth more than the actual intended play through experience and so says that your opinion on the game is invalid if you don't play with his rule set. The very fact that for ending a stage on 9:59 gives you the biggest amounts of points for stage completion alone shows how the game was not designed for Score attack. Never mind infinite score sources like the re-spawning bird robots in Launch base zone. Or how his rule set requires you to not go for the true and canonical ending as you have to skip the special stages.
This js why sonic retro remake (I thi k it's the hack rom name) is so fum, it has hard goals, and more than one for act.
What Version of Neo Genesis is this?
I love stuff like this! So many players only do the bare minimum to beat a game and don’t realize how much they miss out on. It’s like an entirely different experience in the same game. I have no idea why the comments are so salty
Really you don't know when he specifically says "if you don't play by my challenge rule set than your opinion on the game is worthless". Especially as he says that when his rules are about score attack that requires you to also not go for true ending in a game series that has since its inception be about speed running rather than score attack.
@ he just made a point that people should experience everything you can in a game before judging it as good or bad, or easy or hard. It’s something that if you don’t care about, you just turn off the video. Little kids are the only ones that get real offended over things like this. It’s so minor
@@bogmire9608 This is an argument I have to disagree with. There is a near endless amount of possible self impost challenges you can give your self to experience a game. Following his logic is it impossible to ever review a game as they are still things left to be tried out. This goes extra for games like Minecraft were its near impossible to experiences everything. No not just kids will get offended many adults to will get really angry when you tell them there option is worthless for a reason that they thing is stupid. And huge amounts of arrogance as this video has in there opinion too often erlistende a rage filled response for adults and children alike.
@ it’s not “self imposed challenges”. If you watched the video he explained how he believed it was the way the developers INTENDED for you to play. I’m not arguing about what the right way to play js, I was arguing about how dumb it was for people to get angry at the video when they obviously didn’t watch it
@@bogmire9608 But it is a self impost challenge he is just objectively wrong about score attack being the intended design. The very fact that he had to come up with a rule set that include not interacting with the Special Stages Aka the one system we know for a fact was designed to be mandatory to gain 100% completion to the point you get a extra ending and boss fight out of it, having the game tell you to do it if you finish without them and having there collection progression saved in the games save game feature alone should make this obvious. Same way how he was objectively wrong when he talked about the Spin dash in Sonic 2 were even the earliest prototypes we have that predate the creation of all but 1 of Sonic 2's stages already had the spindash in its earliest form. So him projecting his believes as objective fact when its objectively wrong is infuriating for many. And no you weren't arguing that people shouldn't get angry about something they didn't watch. You said how you can't understand how people get angry for being told that there is more you can do in the game. And than in your second comment tried to argue only little children would get just angry over the content of the video rather than click it off (which implies they watched it which is the opposite of what you say now) While I highlighted that its his smug elitist gate keeping attitude and the proclamation that you opinion on the game is worthless unless you play it with his rule set that got people bad.
Nice concept, didn’t like the part where you called me a judgy piss baby for playing the game the way everyone else does tho ngl
HA! WRONG! I HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED THE GAME, YOU FOOL!
0:20 like 8 times at year with sonic and 1 with knuckles
Wait till you learn how many blue sphere levels there are...
Omg
People not playing a game you like the way you think they should is really difficult for you, huh?
tough crowd, looks like these guys didn't enjoy the video. I don't get the hate with not getting the emeralds, the people watching the videos already got the emeralds!
I don't understand most of the criticism in the comments, I agree with you for most of the video and in the end this is just your opinion
A great stream
